Driven by machine learning, Lucidum provides complete visibility of all critical assets and context of how and why they are used for IT teams to take corrective actionSAN JOSE, Calif. — January 25, 2021 – Lucidum today announced the commercial availability of its IT asset discovery platform that eliminates blind spots across cloud, security and IT operations. The launch of the Lucidum Community License follows the company’s successful, over-subscribed early access program through which customers are using the Lucidum platform to gain complete visibility of all critical IT assets, including unknown unknowns. The Lucidum Community License is available as a free, self-configured download and provides enterprises with an always-on, centralized and continuously updated inventory of their AWS investments. Once configured, the platform automatically ingests data from 13 AWS services, including compute, storage and database services. Within hours, Lucidum provides visibility and context into all known and unknown AWS assets purchased, if they are properly configured, who is using them, if they have appropriate security controls in place and if a company is overpaying for AWS services.“The most fundamental challenge technology leaders face is visibility and context of assets in their sprawling IT estates,” said Peter Liebert, former CISO of the State of California. “Both are extremely hard to pin down because of multiple technologies and protocols that exist across complex environments. The key to success is removing the unknowns to fully understand risk and take the right actions. Lucidum uniquely allows for that, which is absolute gold.”The Lucidum platform employs patent-pending machine learning against a massive volume of pre-existing data to triangulate and provide context about known and unknown computers, mobile devices, cloud environments, IoT devices, microservices, and other technology assets. Without agents or scans, Lucidum identifies anything that stores, processes, or transmits data and answers important questions about where an asset is, what it is, what it’s doing, and how it’s being used.Through a growing list of integrations with over 150 of the most popular tools and platforms already in use by enterprise IT organizations, and an open API, the Lucidum platform feeds IT operations, security, cloud, compliance, finance, and other core disciplines with critical information about the assets it identifies. One customer is using Lucidum to discover and reconcile unknown assets in order to prove that its overall IT asset inventory is accurate. Within hours of deployment, the Lucidum platform automatically updated the customer’s configuration management database (CMDB) and provided visibility and context of its unknown assets in order for its IT organization to take the correct proactive actions to account for them. Within two weeks, the organization reduced its unknown assets from 13% to 4%, which translated to a 70% improvement in asset visibility.“We started this journey at Lucidum by asking hundreds of technology leaders about their most existential challenge,” said Joel Fulton, Lucidum CEO and co-founder. “We clearly learned that asset visibility is a fundamental capability on which everything else rests – from securing to managing and transforming. Our early access customers have been essential partners in delivering a product that empowers technology leaders to improve every other aspect of their IT, cloud and security operations. We’re excited to now make Lucidum available to everyone and grow our community.”Lucidum’s co-founders are Joel Fulton, former CISO at Splunk, and Charles Feng, former head of security innovations and data science at Splunk. The founding team brings exceptional experience in IT leadership and machine learning from companies including Boeing, Nordstrom, Symantec, and Google. The Lucidum Community License for AWS is now available as a free download and allows customers to gain complete visibility of AWS cloud environments, assets (both static and ephemeral assets), users, and data. Buoyant Wins Tech Ascension Award Recognizing Linkerd Service Mesh as Best Open Source DevOps Tool of 2020
San Francisco, Calif. – January 21, 2021 – Buoyant, the creators of Linkerd, today announced that Linkerd was named the Best Open Source DevOps Tool of 2020 by the Tech Ascension Awards. This award recognizes the ability of Linkerd to address a core challenge faced by engineers building modern “cloud native” applications: adding and maintaining critical security, reliability, and observability features to their applications without changing code.
The pioneer of the service mesh category, Linkerd remains the fastest, smallest service mesh on the market. Its unique human-centric approach prioritizes simplicity, speed and security, in stark contrast to the complexity commonly associated with competitive service mesh solutions. With minimal resource consumption, Linkerd installs in minutes, requires zero configuration, and can be incrementally extended to the application one microservice at a time with no disruption to applications or infrastructure.
“Linkerd delivers on the promise of open source, zero-config service mesh, making it frictionless for engineers to reduce overhead and complexity and support zero trust security for Kubernetes,” said William Morgan, CEO of Buoyant. “Recognition as the best Open Source DevOps Tool of 2020 underscores how important Linkerd and the service mesh have become in supporting healthy microservices applications and the organizations that rely on them. The service mesh should be simple, secure and reliable—that is what Linkerd delivers.”
Linkerd decouples platform teams and developer teams so that codependency does not limit agility. It provides critical observability, security, and reliability features at the platform level in a way that is uniform and consistent across all microservices—regardless of language, framework, or team—to support DevOps and DevSecOps methodologies. Linkerd enables platform teams to deliver a reliable, secure, and scalable platform for developers so they can focus on implementing the fundamental business logic of applications.
“DevOps is helping to accelerate IT innovation across the world,” said David Campbell, CEO, Tech Ascension Awards. “We’re excited to be able to recognize companies like Buoyant for their outstanding technical and business benefits.”
The Tech Ascension Awards recognizes the very best innovations in B2C and B2B technology, judging applicants based on technology innovation and uniqueness, market research (analyst reports, media coverage, customer case studies), hard performance stats, and competitive differentiators.

Splice Machine Launches The Splice Machine Feature Store To Simplify Feature Engineering And Democratize Machine Learning
With a true SQL HTAP database, the Feature Strore streamlines the most time-consuming and expensive task of the data science life cycle and enables ML models to integrate past and present data to predict the most accurate futureSan Francisco, CA, January 19, 2021 – Splice Machine, the only scale-out SQL database with built-in machine learning, today announced it has launched the Splice Machine Feature Store. The solution will help more companies operationalize machine learning by reducing the complexity of feature engineering and allow data scientists to make the right decisions based on real-time data.
Despite the hype around AI and machine learning, seven out of 10 executives whose companies had made investments in artificial intelligence reported minimal or no impact from them, according to a 2019 research report from MIT. Those surveyed stated that creating a machine learning model and putting it into operation in an enterprise environment are two very different things.
“The capacity to create, share, explain and reliably reproduce features for a given model is paramount to the success of a data science team,” said Monte Zweben, CEO, Splice Machine. “The old way of doing things meant data science operations were simply not scalable. The Splice Machine Feature Store enables you to harness complex analytics in real time and transform real-time data into features, so your models are never uninformed. It also stores feature history making training set creation a single click.”
Feature engineering is the most time-consuming and expensive task of the data science life cycle. As companies work to operationalize machine learning, current approaches are not scalable because data science productivity is too low to enable widespread adoption. Simplifying the data science workflow by providing necessary architecture and automating feature serving with feature stores are two of the most important ways to make machine learning easy, accurate and fast at scale.
The Splice Machine Feature Store Platform solves some of the biggest pain points of operationalizing machine learning, including:
- Reducing the effort of feature engineering
- Helping to solve for governance issues, such as bias, drift, or regulatory oversight
- Scaling data science operations
- Reducing monetary loss from the creation of inaccurate models
This will help data scientists realize numerous benefits, including:
- Achieving faster deployments of AI/ML into production by reusing features and avoiding duplicative feature engineering
- Spending 80% less time on feature engineering
- Developing more informative models via automatic aggregation of raw data
- Gaining predictive accuracy of models with near real-time feature updates and consistent training sets
“As our Clinical Advisor application continues to be adopted by more and more clinicians, there will be increasingly more data at our disposal to help hone and create new features that can further improve our application’s precision in identifying the course of disease and improving patient outcomes,” said IPH (Innovative Precision Health) Chief Scientific Officer, Mark Gudesblatt, MD. “Splice Machine’s feature store makes it possible to leverage features developed by data scientists for a particular disease like Multiple Sclerosis to be leveraged by other data scientists for other diseases like Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s.”
“We had this sort of a feature store at Airbnb, but it was limited by the fact that we were largely on HDFS,” said Robert Yi, CDO at Dataframe and former Airbnb data scientist. “It enabled users to share features, but it didn’t solve the online/offline problem. But the solution can obviously be much more elegant if you start with a more amenable database that can function in realtime. Splice Machine seems to be doing exactly that – MLflow integration, database re-injection, Spark lazy loading, easy deployment, and API-less access.”
Zweben added, “The Splice Machine Feature Store is the only one in the market that does not have to synchronize two underlying data engines — an online store and an offline store, simplifying the architecture with one store, lowering costs, and eliminating latency.”
To learn more about the Splice Machine Feature Store Platform, visit https://splicemachine.com/product/feature-store/.
Zweben will also discuss the importance of feature stores at the upcoming TWIMLcon 2021, being held online January 19-29, 2021. Monte’s session, “Unified MLOps: How Database Deployment and a Feature Store Can Revolutionize ML”, is slated for Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 11:40 AM PST and a workshop, “Hands-On Feature Store and Model Deployment with Splice Machine”, as scheduled for Thursday, January 28 at 9:00 AM PST. More information about the event can be found here: TWIMLcon

Quali Raises $54 Million in New Funding to Help Enterprise DevOps Streamline Infrastructure Complexity
Greenfield Partners and JVP co-lead new round after record sales of CloudShell Platform to Global 2000 and innovators around the world
Austin – Jan. 19, 2021 – Quali, the Infrastructure Automation at ScaleTM company, today announced $54 million in new funding, co-led by Greenfield Partners and JVP. The company will use the funds to further expand its stellar customer base, enable new partnerships, strengthen its market leadership position, accelerate CloudShell innovation, and grow the Quali team.
Quali’s CloudShell platform simplifies cloud infrastructure, making it accessible and secure for application development and deployment, accelerating digital transformation. Quali’s mission is to unlock business value encumbered by technology operations, and to unleash the time and talent of technology teams so they are free to build the future—to develop, test, and deploy with simple self-service at any time, on any cloud, or even on-prem.
Despite COVID-19, Quali has experienced a record year, with significant growth, serving customers such as Cisco, Microsoft, Dell, Verizon, multiple banks, and cloud service providers. Quali investors see the immense potential in bringing automation to the masses. In addition to the continued support from Kreos Capital, this round also welcomes a fund managed by Hamilton Lane as a new investor.
While traditional Infrastructure as Code (IaC) players have focused on catering to a relatively small set of experts, Quali’s technology simplifies the user experience—effectively making cloud infrastructure, and its complexity, invisible to the application teams who need it.
“Development teams are burdened by the time and complexity of setting up and operating cloud infrastructure. Quali empowers developers to develop, testers to test, planners to plan, and ops to operate by offering safe and productive access to hybrid cloud infrastructure”, said Quali CEO, Lior Koriat. “Since Quali’s most recent funding in 2018, the company experienced rapid growth in sales, platform innovation, and expanded its own workforce globally.”
”Quali has proven its position as a market leader in the DevOps and Infrastructure Automation category, servicing tier-1 customers across multiple segments,” said Erel Margalit, Founder and Chairman at JVP. “This is one of our most fascinating companies, and we are happy to join forces with Shay Grinfeld, Managing Partner at Greenfield partners, and Boaz Dinte, Managing Partner at Qumra Capital, who helped build leading companies in this category such as Jfrog, BigPanda, and others. Alongside Yoav Tzruya, Quali’s Chairperson, and the vast experience of JVP in building international companies such as CyberArk and QlikTech, we are confident that together with Lior and Quali’s great team both in Israel and the US, the company will become the next big thing.”
Quali’s new Board Member, Shay Grinfeld, Managing Partner at Greenfield Partners, said, “Our investment thesis was built around Quali’s unique ability to streamline cloud and infrastructure complexity for application and technology teams with the growing adoption of DevOps methodology and CI/CD procedures. We are impressed with their recent growth and are excited about the opportunity to build an exceptional business.”
“With the growing adoption of DevOps and CI/CD best practices, beyond early adopters, challenges related to scaling such practices are becoming more prevalent—removing operational, process and knowledge bottlenecks, reducing costs, assuring governance and unifying infrastructure. This is where Quali shines”, stated Yoav Tzruya, General Partner at JVP and chairperson of Quali, “While Atlassian and JFrog solve needs around process management and streamlining dev-to-prod, Quali focuses on abstracting away and automating infrastructure, and enabling the CRO to focus on sales, instead of the complexities of demos and POCs, the developers to develop instead of spending resources on IT and cloud provisioning, and operations to offer best in class customer experience instead of worrying about costs and governance”.
“What attracts me to Quali is their ability to bring essential automation technology directly to the masses (developers) without requiring deep expertise,” said Boaz Dinte, a board member of Quali and JFrog. “It’s the same thing that impressed me as an early investor at JFrog and I could not be more excited about Quali’s future.”
“Quali’s automation framework further enhances our ability to build tomorrow’s future today, allowing Verizon to deliver amazing new technology to our customers at the speed of DevOps,” said John Musa, Manager at Verizon Wireless.
New Customers: Category-leading companies in consumer electronics, telco, banking, technology, media, and more rely on Quali to deliver more productivity, faster time to market, and reduced business risks.
New innovation: In addition to 1-click infrastructure setup, Quali’s CloudShell Platform features the industry’s only “no-click” auto-decommissioning of cloud environments as well as its unique auto-tagging capabilities, both of which are essential for cloud cost visibility and cloud cost control.
New employee growth: With aggressive hiring goals in every functional area, Quali will nearly double its employment, filling multiple new positions at its new offices in Austin and Tel Aviv and across the US, Europe, and Asia.

WANdisco Solidifies Market Leadership for Live Data, Serving 150 Customers, Managing 200 Petabytes
WANdisco advances strategic alliances with leading cloud providers, partners and customers to automate the migration of petabyte-scale Hadoop data lakes to the cloud with zero downtime
SAN RAMON, CA, January 18, 2021 – WANdisco, the LiveData company, announced a milestone with over 150 Live Data customers and 200 petabytes of data under management, the equivalent of all printed material that has ever been produced. WANdisco’s LiveData Migrator is the only hands-off, automated data lake migration service to allow on-premise applications to continue to operate while migrating data under active change. Available to AWS and Google Cloud Platform customers and as a native turnkey service in Microsoft Azure, WANdisco shifted to a channel-first sales model with the launch of its LiveData Partner Network. The exabyte-scale Hadoop to cloud migration opportunity represents more than 100 exabytes of data and thus a multi-billion dollar total addressable market.
“2020 demonstrated that cloud plays a vital role in business, and we look forward to continuing to give customers the complete freedom to choose where their data lives within their enterprises’ IT infrastructure, free from technological or cost constraints,” said David Richards, CEO and Co-founder of WANdisco. “As we move into 2021 with a solid foundation and expanded sources of revenue, WANdisco seeks to extend its lead within the cloud migration and replication market with an exciting product roadmap, a world class team and strategic partnerships.”
New Partners and Customers
2020 saw substantial customer and partner growth for WANdisco with the signing of multiple, million-plus dollar deals that have expanded customer reach into new industries. Recent customers include one of the largest global airlines, a worldwide retail franchise, a world leader in telecommunications, a leading media conglomerate and a major UK-based supermarket chain among others.
WANdisco significantly expanded its market reach with its global reseller agreement with Infosys to de-risk and accelerate data lake migration to the cloud. Leveraging Infosys’ vast experience and cloud capabilities, WANdisco will help enterprises across the globe migrate their data lakes to major public clouds including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
Using WANdisco LiveData Migrator, GoDaddy achieved their initial goal to migrate 500TB to AWS S3 in 45 days and to take advantage of the cloud provider’s modern tooling and analytics capabilities. On average, GoDaddy processes over 21,000 change operations per second with peaks of over 100,000 change operations per second while normal business operations continued uninterrupted, leaving engineers to focus on other business-critical projects like refactoring and moving applications to the cloud. “WANdisco provided a solution that addressed our cloud migration challenges,” said Jeremy Zogg, Senior Director of Engineering, GoDaddy. “This includes managing the technical debt inherited by our aging software and hardware, handling the scale of data that we accumulated over the years, and doing so without impacting our business continuity. We couldn’t afford any downtime during the migration process. With WANdisco and AWS, we were able to get up and running in weeks so we could begin experimenting with the new cloud environment very quickly.”
Xandr accelerated its cloud adoption goals and leverage cloud analytical services by deploying WANdisco LiveData Platform. As the advertising and analytics division of WarnerMedia, Xandr migrated multiple petabytes of on-premises Hadoop data to the cloud while continuing to ingest and process hundreds of terabytes of new data every day – all without taking production clusters offline and completing the migration in a single scan.
Successful partnerships with leading cloud providers
In 2020, WANdisco deepened its relationship with Microsoft as its LiveData Platform became the first natively integrated service in the Azure Customer Portal. Since its preview began in June, the collaboration between Microsoft and WANdisco has drawn numerous enterprises who have registered for the service within the Azure Portal, offering positive feedback on its efficiency and operation. As part of the Microsoft Hadoop Migration Accelerator program with Databricks, LiveData Migrator for Azure is a fully operational Azure-nature service and is Microsoft’s recommended Hadoop to Azure migration platform.
New Channel Program
Through the new WANdisco LiveData Partner Network portal, cloud service providers, consulting partners, system integrators, ISVs, resellers, and others can leverage WANdisco’s LiveData Cloud Services to enable Hadoop migrations at any scale, in addition to a robust set of new sales, marketing, training, certification and support resources to unlock new revenue streams. WANdisco envisions that the partner network will be its biggest growth driver for the company in 2021, enabling it to quickly expand and scale its business globally. Through these new partnerships, WANdisco will help partners grow their business while providing customers with the tools to accelerate their data and application modernization plans.
“We see this as a significant growth area,” said Alan Grogan, executive leader for data platform modernization at Avanade Europe, a WANdisco reseller and strategic systems integrator partner. “Hadoop is failing to meet a lot of the early expectations. WANdisco is an accelerating technology that we see the value in using to help clients who are currently struggling with – or not getting value out of – Hadoop, to move those workloads they are spending billions on,” Grogan said in an interview with CRN.
“The LiveData Partner Network, coupled with WANdisco’s newly released and self service LiveData Migrator service, will serve to accelerate our business together and enable Motifworks to focus on the upstack aspects of customers’ digital transformation,” said Tarun Agarwal, Director and Practice Lead, Data & AI, Motifworks, a WANdisco partner. “WANdisco has made it easy to do business together, providing a state-of-the-art technology platform to more rapidly onboard Motifworks sellers and cloud architects.”
LiveData Migrator
WANdisco is changing the future of migration with this year’s launch of LiveData Migrator. The company’s automated, self-service solution democratizes cloud data migration at any scale by enabling companies to start migrating Hadoop data from on-premises to Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform within minutes, even while the source data sets are under active use. With LiveData Migrator, businesses can migrate HDFS data without the expertise of engineers or other consultants. The platform enables enterprises to operate without any production system downtime or business disruption while ensuring the migration is complete and continuous, and any ongoing data changes are replicated to the target cloud environment. “It’s as close to a silver bullet as you can find for this type of project,” according to Gartner analyst Merv Adrian in an interview with TechTarget.
WANdisco gained designation as an Advanced Technology Partner in the AWS Partner Network (APN) and achieved AWS Migration Competency status with the release of LiveData Migrator. The only ISV certified in the new Workload Mobility for Data Migration, Data Lake Migration category, WANdisco collaborated with AWS to define the requirements to cover different use cases, including Hadoop, storage and database data migration, and mainframe data integration.
Awards
WANdisco’s technological accomplishments were recognized within three awards in 2020. It was a finalist for the Stratus Awards in the Cloud Computing category, organized by the Business Intelligence Group, and shortlisted for the Cloud Awards within the category of Best Cloud Migration or Systems Integration Solution. WANdisco was also highly commended at the UK IT Awards for Cloud Innovation Provider of the Year in November.
