  • GridGain 8.8 Advances Its Multi-Tier Database Engine To Scale Beyond Available Memory Capacity And Meet Growing Customer Demand

Improved Storage Utilization Reduces Total Cost Of Ownership; Expanded Memory Quota For SQL Enables Complex Real-Time Analytics; Enhanced Security Allows Data Encryption At Rest

FOSTER CITY, Calif., Jan. 14, 2021 – GridGain® Systems, provider of enterprise-grade in-memory computing solutions powered by the Apache® Ignite® distributed database, today announced GridGain 8.8, the latest release of the company’s in-memory computing platform. The release features enhanced support for GridGain’s multi-tier database engine, which scales up and out across memory and disk. The changes enable customers to leverage the disk tier of the database to query much larger datasets, reduce total cost of ownership, and secure sensitive or personal data at rest. Companies can now use GridGain for a greater number of production use cases, ranging from complex real-time analytics to mission-critical transactional workloads.

“As our customers expand their use of GridGain, they increasingly require the flexibility to scale workloads beyond available memory capacity,” said Abe Kleinfeld, president and CEO of GridGain. “As a result, we are continuing to evolve our data persistence technology to simplify GridGain cluster management, reduce disk requirements and improve performance, while lowering TCO and accelerating time to value. The combination of more effective disk utilization and higher memory quotas for SQL allows GridGain to support significantly larger and more complex real-time analytics use cases.”

GridGain’s multi-tier database engine enables companies to build modern applications that support transactional and analytical workloads on the same dataset by using Apache Ignite as a database that scales beyond the available memory capacity. Ignite allocates memory for hot data and accesses the disk tier whenever applications query cold records.

    Key Features Of GridGain 8.8

    • Data compression – Reduces memory and disk space requirements for storing data.  The dictionary-based cache entry compression is built on the Zstandard library, and a pre-trained dictionary can allow compression ratios of up to 60% on real-world scenarios. If the load pattern is I/O bound, then enabling native persistence can save space while also improving performance. Available in GridGain Ultimate Edition.
    • Advanced seamless disk space defragmentation – Improves GridGain’s persistence management. Defragmentation shrinks data files and reclaims disk space while still storing the current cached data durably on a disk. Available in all GridGain editions.
    • SQL memory quotas on node or query level – Prevents out-of-memory issues when executing SQL queries requiring significant memory space. Support for offloading data to the disk tier enables greedy or complex analytical queries to pull and process gigabytes of data while executing and returning the result back to an application. Available in all GridGain editions.
    • Transparent data encryption – Improves security of data stored in the cluster by encrypting data at rest. New procedures for managing Cache and Mater encryption keys support data encryption in production environments. Available in all GridGain editions.

GridGain will be hosting a webinar, “New Advances in GridGain’s Multi-Tier Database Engine,” on February 3, 2021 at 10:00 PST / 1:00 EST.

  • ScyllaDB Unveils ‘Monstrous’ New Capabilities for Its NoSQL Database

At Scylla Summit 2021, ScyllaDB CEO outlines plans to hit new levels of performance, flexibility and scale

PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 12, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — At Scylla Summit 2021, ScyllaDB took the wraps off new cloud-native capabilities, wider platform support and a year-long project to buff every aspect of its high-performance NoSQL database.

At its previous Summit, ScyllaDB announced it had matched Apache Cassandra feature-for-feature. It also launched its Alternator API, giving Amazon DynamoDB users an open source alternative with greater deployment options, better performance and lower total cost of ownership.

So what comes next for the world’s fastest, most cost-effective NoSQL database? ScyllaDB co-founder and CEO Dor Laor provided answers in the opening keynote of Scylla Summit 2021.

    Introducing Project Circe

The announcements kicked off with Project Circe, a twelve-month initiative to bring greater consistency, improved elasticity and ease of use to Scylla’s already powerful database. Each month ScyllaDB will release a new feature or upgrade to an existing capability, along with numerous smaller quality-of-life improvements.

Among the big changes slated for this year, Laor said, is migration to the Raft consensus protocol, bringing significant improvements in two areas. The first is elasticity and manageability. All internal metadata manipulations will become transactional, enabling Scylla to elastically double its size in a single operation. The second area of improvement is consistency. NoSQL databases formerly relied on eventual consistency in order to avoid performance overhead. With Raft, Scylla will support transactions at the same low processing overhead of regular operations — a game changer for NoSQL developers.

Other developments under Project Circe will improve throughput, reduce latency and simplify the operational complexity of running a distributed database at scale. For more details on Project Circe and to track its milestones, please visit ScyllaDB’s Project Circe page.

“Scylla was born as a highly distributed database modeled after Apache Cassandra,” Laor said. “We transformed Cassandra from the ground up, rewriting the code in C++ and optimizing every aspect of its performance. Project Circe will transform Scylla yet again, delivering speed, reliability and cloud-native capabilities that far exceed any other database of its kind.”

    Scylla Cloud on GCP

Laor also announced that Scylla’s hosted solution, Scylla Cloud, which launched last year on AWS, now runs on Google Cloud Platform (currently in beta). It was the latest in a string of announcements for Scylla Cloud, which was most recently selected as the only NoSQL database certified on the AWS Outposts platform for on-premises managed services.

Scylla Operator for Kubernetes now available

Laor next announced general availability of Scylla Operator, a Kubernetes extension that makes it easy to run Scylla clusters in cloud-native environments. Supporting the wide adoption of Kubernetes, Scylla Operator enables users to create multiple Scylla clusters with a single command, automate deployment across multiple availability zones, scale operations, conduct rolling changes, repairs and upgrades, benefit from auto-healing and perform backups, restorations and more.

For details on GCP support and tips for integrating and connecting applications to ScyllaDB’s hosted solution for AWS and GCP, be sure to attend the Scylla Summit session on Scylla Cloud. And for a deep dive on Scylla’s Kubernetes operator, don’t miss the session covering scale-out, rolling upgrade, automatic configuration changes and much more.

  • No-Code Movement Eases Software Developer Shortage by Enabling Anyone to Code Without Prior Knowledge

No-code solutions have begun infiltrating a variety of businesses, from startups to technological companies, as user-friendly interfaces with a pre-written code facilitate the software development process. Tools like Ycode are beneficial for speeding up business goals and allowing non-programming staff to create web apps or websites.

January 12, 2021. The growing demand for software development professionals has already resulted in a talent shortage of 40M workers worldwide which is projected to reach 85.2M by 2030. However, no-code solutions will allow anyone in the organization to code cheaper, faster, and without any prior knowledge in programming.

Ignas Rubežius, CEO of The Remote Company, which is creating an ecosystem of several no-code products, shares his insights on the emerging trend.

“We see that no-code solutions are becoming commonplace,” says Ignas Rubežius, CEO of The Remote Company. “The tools using the no-code approach get everyone on the team involved in the creative process. Until now, web development required the involvement of IT professionals who oversaw every step of the process. With the help of no-code tools, teams can do most of the work themselves and the IT department can jump onboard later, if needed.”

Experts predict that by the end of next year, 75% of development shops will use similar solutions, while 85% of engineer leads believe that the implementation of low-code or no-code solutions will become a standard within their companies in the next few years.

No-code is an alternative to a traditional approach to software development. Instead of having professionals spend hours writing code, non-technical staff can join the process by assembling the website or an app using pre-made elements via a user-friendly interface. No-code products work by providing a visual layer on top of the code – if changes are made in the visual editor, they are reflected in the respective lines of code in the background.

Pfizer, General Electric, and Zurich Financial are among the fast-growing number of companies that have adopted various no-code solutions in creating custom software. For example, no-code platforms can aid in migrating legacy apps that are costly to maintain. It can also be used in creating new tools that can access all company data in real-time and turn it into insightful statistics.

No-code solutions are utilized in marketing communications, too. For example, MailerLite is a tool that allows businesses to launch and manage marketing campaigns without any coding. The user-friendly product can be used by marketing teams to easily create, track, and optimize company newsletters. Every part of the process is done without the involvement of the IT department.

“After the success of MailerLite, we set out to find a way to let users build their dream web project themselves, without putting a lot of effort into learning programming or hiring developers,” says Rubežius. “It offers people the ability to build quickly and efficiently, without technical barriers.”

Ycode, which will go into public beta in early 2021, reimagines the traditional way of designing and developing websites and web applications. It empowers anyone to build faster, without needing to know how to code. Users have full freedom – not only can they change the look of the basic visual elements, but they can customize interactivity, functionality, and user experience of the website or the web app too. It uses the most progressive and fastest-growing Tailwind CSS framework in the frontend and writes clean Laravel PHP code in the background. Ycode avoids vendor lock-in and offers easily understandable code, which means any developer can jump in and extend on the project.

Such solutions democratize development and bring the power of building websites and web apps to anyone interested. The ease of use, efficiency, and the involvement of a wider workforce makes no-code the future of development that might soon become an industry standard.

    -END-

    About Ycode

Ycode is a no-code solution that lets anyone build websites and web apps without prior programming knowledge. It offers a user-friendly visual environment that writes clean Laravel PHP code and uses Tailwind CSS in the frontend. Ycode lets users create working databases that can collect data and comes with automatic API support, allowing access to website’s data from anywhere. Public beta of Ycode will be available in January 2021.

  • Push Technology Launches MQTT Integration

IoT Development Teams Can Benefit from the Power of Diffusion

SILICON VALLEY, CA, January 11, 2021 – Push Technology, the pioneer and leader in real-time, event-data streaming and messaging solutions, today announced the expansion of its support for open protocols by adding support for the popular MQTT protocol that is widely used by Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile applications.  By supporting MQTT with the company’s Diffusion Intelligent Event-Data Platform, software development teams can now bring state-of-the-art Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) to their IoT and Mobile solutions. The low code features of the Diffusion platform significantly reduces software development effort and the overall cost of deployed solutions.

Diffusion supports the OASIS MQTT open standard protocol. MQTT is a publish-subscribe messaging protocol commonly used to connect IoT applications. Now, a wide range of IoT devices can connect directly to Diffusion, send and receive data, interact with other Diffusion clients, and benefit from Diffusion’s event-data processing features and rich security framework. MQTT can also be used as a lightweight alternative to Diffusion SDKs for simple publish/subscribe use cases.

Diffusion implements MQTT 5.0, the latest version of the specification. Both the TCP and WebSocket transports are supported, and connections can be secured using Transport Layer Security (TLS). Diffusion treats MQTT as a first-class protocol, and acts as a session broker for MQTT clients in the same way as it does for Diffusion SDK clients. Each Diffusion server can host tens-of-thousands of MQTT sessions; and servers can be configured in clusters to scale to an arbitrarily large number of connections. MQTT clients can be monitored and managed by Diffusion SDK clients, the management console, and external tools connected via the Prometheus or JMX gateways.

MQTT support is fully integrated with Diffusion’s security framework: MQTT connections are authenticated just like any other connection and publish and subscribe operations are subject to the server’s configured fine-grained, access-control rules.

Sean Bowen, CEO of Push Technology, said: “With our new native support for MQTT, Diffusion easily consumes MQTT client event data – with no code or extra components required.   Now, IoT development teams can take advantage of the powerful data wrangling features of the Diffusion platform and assure efficient and reliable real-time data distribution with secure access control.”

The RPO status exhibits that NeoSystems is familiar with the constructs of the CMMC Standard and is able to deliver compliant managed security services designed to ready organizations for audits and help them to meet ongoing compliance requirements.

Additionally, NeoSystems’ Rob Wilson, Chief Technology Officer, and Brian Giblin, Senior Director of Quality Assurance, have achieved Registered Practitioner (RP) status from the CMMC-AB.

“NeoSystems is thrilled to become a Registered Provider Organization for the CMMC-AB and have Rob and Brian become Registered Practitioners,” said Michael Tinsley, President and CEO of NeoSystems. “We look forward to supporting our growing client-base and navigating the CMMC compliance process on their behalf.”

The CMMC-AB establishes and oversees a qualified, trained and high-fidelity community of assessors that can deliver consistent and informative assessments to participating organizations against a defined set of controls/best practices within the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program.

The CMMC Model itself is created, managed and mandated by the Department of Defense (DoD). Its purpose is to validate the security of the DoD’s 300,000 vendors throughout its supply chain and includes five levels of certifications.
