  • BMC Strengthens Mainframe Intelligence, Security, and DevOps with New and Enhanced Offerings

BMC AMI and Compuware solutions help enterprises accelerate innovation with expanded AI, new integrations, and increased automation for the mainframe

HOUSTON, Jan. 6, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — BMC, a global leader celebrating 40 years of delivering software solutions for the Autonomous Digital Enterprise, today announced several new capabilities and enhancements for the BMC Automated Mainframe Intelligence (AMI) and Compuware portfolios that enable BMC mainframe customers to protect uptime and availability, defend the mainframe against cybersecurity threats, and advance enterprise DevOps.

“Businesses today are under increasing pressure to ensure 24/7 availability, while optimizing their systems for speed, agility, and ease of use,” said Tim Grieser, Research Vice President for Enterprise System Management Software, IDC. “The ability to adapt is critical for business survival, let alone a successful evolution to a digital enterprise. Resilient, intelligent modern mainframe platforms leverage tools including AIOps to allow customers to reinvent their business for the digital age.”

    Introducing BMC AMI Ops
The new BMC AMI Ops solution takes the best of MainView, the BMC solution for optimizing mainframe systems management, and enhances it with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) through an upgraded and intuitive user interface designed for both new and experienced mainframe users. The solution’s new AIOps features allow organizations to identify and respond to problems before they can affect service levels and secure communications between enterprise systems with a RESTful API to support automation.

    Expanding Mainframe Security
The BMC AMI Security solution’s new security controls, out-of-the-box security checks, and additional indicators of compromise allow customers to increase threat detection and response capabilities. Integrated with the Compuware Application Audit capability, customers can now capture relevant data about user access and behavior so they can quickly detect breaches and mitigate financial and brand reputation damages. These new offerings, along with the BMC Security Assessment and Penetration Testing services which identify vulnerabilities and weaknesses in configurations, software, and security controls (conducted either onsite or remotely), further harden and defend the mainframe against malicious actions and data threats.

Adding Functionality to Compuware zAdviser and Topaz for Total Test
DevOps teams can now see which Compuware DevOps toolchain products and capabilities are underutilized with the new Compuware zAdviser dashboards. In addition, they can deliver applications and services faster with the Compuware Topaz for Total Test product’s enhanced automated testing capabilities, which simplify automated test case creation, expand test coverage with negative testing, and reduce rework.

Optimizing Workflows with Control-M and Compuware ThruPut Manager
A new integration between the Control-M and Compuware ThruPut Manager solutions ensure jobs run at or before their expected times, resulting in shorter, more efficient, and cost-optimized batch processing. Users can now use ThruPut Manager to customize the prioritization of mainframe jobs based on data from Control-M, BMC’s industry-leading application workflow orchestration platform.

Optimizing Data Management with BMC AMI Data for IMS
The new and improved BMC AMI Data for IMS is the evolution of BMC solutions for IMS™. It delivers optimized mainframe IMS transaction and data management so enterprises can improve availability of critical business services, meet and exceed SLAs, and better support agile application development with fewer resources.

“Our customers tell us they want to innovate and modernize faster in their mainframe environments while also improving business resiliency and platform security,” said John McKenny, SVP and General Manager of ZSolutions at BMC. “The comprehensive set of BMC AMI and Compuware capabilities delivered today enables enterprises to make significant progress on all fronts with AI and ML-powered insights that drive intelligent operations, adaptive cybersecurity, and deeper insights into mainframe development. • Kintaba Launches ‘Automations’ to Seamlessly Manage the Incident Response Process to Major Outages

Kintaba is a modern incident management platform built by ex-Facebook engineers

The company launched out of stealth earlier this year in February with $2.25 million in seed funding led by New York’s FirstMark Capital.

NEW YORK, NY — (BUSINESS WIRE) — Kintaba, the incident management platform built by ex-Facebook engineers, today launched Automations, a new feature that helps teams automate decision-making during major incidents and outages.

Traditionally, Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) and DevOps teams cobble together various software tools and processes to manage high severity incidents; everything from text messages to chat apps to task managers to Google Docs to alerting systems. By intelligently automating incident management processes, Kintaba’s Automations helps teams loop in the right people at the right moment, freeing response teams to focus on resolving the problem versus “managing” the incident.

“Taking the busywork and overhead out of Incident Management helps make sure that everyone at the company feels empowered to participate in the response process, even if it’s their first time being involved,” said John Egan, CEO and Co-Founder of Kintaba. “With the introduction of Automations, incident reporters and responders alike can feel confident that the right people will be included at the right time to help resolve the incident.”

“That’s not just the SREs either — that may include legal, PR, or even the account reps for the customers impacted by the outage. That’s a big differentiator for how Kintaba views the world: Incident Response should be an open, company-wide initiative and Automations makes that more attainable for our users.”

According to Atlassian’s State of Incident Management 2020 Report, 97% of respondents say it is important to improve their organization’s incident response process next year. The top pain points highlighted are “the lack of coordination across departments” and “the lack of automated responses.” With the launch of Automations, teams and companies using Kintaba can define a rules-based decision tree for engaging the right responders and subscribers with active incidents.  For example, if an incident is categorized as impacting PII (personally identifiable information), the Automations system can be configured to instantly add the current oncall for the legal team and the customer success manager for the impacted customer as a responder, while simultaneously adding the CIO as a subscriber.  These automations can be triggered both at the moment of incident creation and as the incident progresses, so that the response team evolves organically with the analysis and mitigation process.

“Incidents often start out fuzzy and ill-defined, but then rapidly gain shape and definition,” said Zac Morris, CSO and Co-Founder at Kintaba and former mobile application security manager at Uber.  “As that happens, it’s important that the platform you’re working on enables automation when it’s valuable, and stays out of your way when your team needs to focus. Kintaba’s Automations does just that.”

    Quotes of Support
”Kintaba is an essential part of the Vercel reliability workflow. We tried many disjointed tools before, but Kintaba just clicked for our team. I recommend it to all engineering organizations I talk to.” — Guillermo Rauch, CEO at Vercel

“Kintaba keeps us honest by automating our process: ensuring that we learn from our mistakes and continually improve our systems.” — Tom Elliott, Head of Engineering at Let’s Do This

    About Kintaba

Kintaba is a modern incident management platform built by former Facebook engineers. It lets companies and teams implement best-practice incident response processes  without the overhead, creating a seamless workflow for more effectively responding to major outages. • Rockset Announces Retool Integration, Enabling Faster Internal Tools with Real-Time Analytics

New release enables developers to build internal tools with powerful real-time analytics, in record time

SAN MATEO, Calif. — Dec. 17, 2020 — Rockset, the real-time indexing database company, today released an integration with Retool, the low-code platform that allows developers to build internal tools in a matter of minutes. With this integration, developers can build performant internal tools for customer support, marketing operations, customer 360, fraud investigation, logistics monitoring, and streamlining operations, in record time.

Every business today is accelerating its digital transformation to meet the increasing demands of customers, partners, and employees. Instead of relying only on batch analytics and historical data, businesses are learning to use both historical and real-time insights to automate critical business processes and operate at a pace faster than ever before.

“Gone are the days when employees tolerated static dashboards that took minutes to refresh. With millennials taking on increasing responsibility in the workplace, the reality is that nobody will use your internal tool if it is any slower than Instagram,” said Venkat Venkataramani, co-founder and CEO of Rockset. “Rockset is the first database that gives developers fast and easy access to real-time analytics at cloud scale, while Retool completely transforms the way internal tools are built. The joint Rockset and Retool solution allows anyone to build incredibly powerful, blazing-fast internal tools in just minutes.”

Built by the creators of RocksDB, Rockset automatically builds a Converged Index™ on any data — including structured, semi-structured, geographical, and time series data — for high-performance search and analytics at scale. When combined with serverless operations, it is a game-changing approach to making real-time analytics fast, flexible, and easy. Retool is a low-code platform that speeds the process of building internal tools by delivering the UI building blocks to quickly launch internal apps. It also simplifies app development by easily connecting to APIs and data sources like Rockset.

To build internal tools using Rockset and Retool, the developer workflow is simplified down to three steps:

    1. Continuously index different data sources: Connect to data sources such as MongoDB, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Kinesis, Apache Kafka, Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, and more, for continuously indexing data.
    2. Create data APIs: Write a SQL query and save it as a Query Lambda to create a data API
    3. Build a UI using Retool: Drag and drop UI components that query data from Rockset using REST APIs.

“Our goal is to change the way developers build software. We’ve saved engineers hundreds of thousands of hours building internal applications. But we’ve also saved millions of hours for the sales, marketing, support, operations, legal, and finance teams who spend hours every day on those internal applications,” said David Hsu, founder and CEO of Retool. “What stood out for me about Rockset is that it delivers millisecond-latency queries on the most recent data, without any of the usual operational burden. This means Retool users can now quickly build blazing-fast internal tools that enable rapid decisions on the freshest data.”

  • Sendbird Continues to Elevate Chat With Introduction of Powerful Messaging Features – Open Channel, IP Whitelisting, Message Threading, and Search

Product capabilities are designed to enable new forms of digital interaction and compelling, highly scalable user experiences

SAN MATEO, Calif. — December 17, 2020– Sendbird, the leading interaction API company across chat, voice and video for mobile, and web applications, today announced a number of impressive new capabilities uniquely developed to help people come together for outstanding digital chat experiences at large scale. They include new Open Channels with dynamic partitioning, as well as IP whitelisting, message threading and message search.

Sendbird developed the features in recognition that the ways people interact and connect with one another have fundamentally changed over the past year. This change has sparked a massive transformation in digital communications that touches everything from global interactions to how people form connections on a deeply personal level. With widespread adoption of new forms of communications, Sendbird has stepped up to power the world’s best chat experiences. Its latest features and enhancements allow users to engage with one another in environments ranging from just a few participants to groups with tens of thousands. The platform dynamically scales accordingly with no lapse in performance. This scaling capacity enables exciting new chat formats, such as virtual sporting events and concerts, to become active moments of interaction. Sendbird’s ability to connect the world in meaningful ways is more important than ever as marketplaces, on-demand and online communities, healthcare organizations and more continue to see explosive growth amid digital transformation.

“Chat plays a more important role in people’s lives than ever before, essentially becoming the central nervous system of the internet,” said Sendbird founder and CEO John Kim. “We are changing what is possible by designing all kinds of new experiences. Today, we unveiled a number of new features that represent engineering feats, but more importantly, they were built to enrich the ways people connect. Sendbird is ready to define the future of digital interaction.”

Taking Open Channel Chat to New Levels

Sendbird has long been devoted to creating the world’s best large-scale group chat experiences for both public and private communities. Building on Sendbird’s recent groundbreaking launch of Supergroups, which connect up to 20,000 people in a private channel, the company has now introduced its new Open Channels for Sendbird Chat with dynamic partitioning that can host up to 20,000 members in public chats. Open Channels can also host up to 60,000 members in public chats if a customer leverages a dedicated server, further shattering chat boundaries and extending the possibilities in both public and private environments.

Open Channels are ideal for hosting large public group chats with enthusiastic audience members in a live stream. It also works exceptionally well for large multiplayer gaming communities. What makes it extraordinary, however, is that Sendbird ensures an excellent, reliable experience, even at massive scale. By building dynamic partitioning into its open channels, Sendbird splits a large open channel into smaller sub-channels so that it’s easier to manage and for people to share and follow or participate in conversations. At the end of the chat session, the complete chat history across all the different sub-channels is made available to all participants in the open channel so that no one misses a thing.

Open channels also support moderation features that make sure conversations adhere to the channel owner’s brand standards. This includes features such as ban user, mute user, spam flood protection, profanity filters, domain filters, regex filters, share media and smart throttling.

Building on Layered Security Foundation to Extend Chat Security

Additionally, Sendbird has taken another step forward with its industry-leading chat security. It now offers IP whitelisting in addition to existing TLS encryption for chat messages, AES256 encryption for files and adherence to compliance standards such as ISO 27001, SOC2 Type 2, GDPR, HIPAA and options for hosting chat on AWS GovCloud. Sendbird’s IP whitelisting provides an extra layer of security by enabling customers to create lists of whitelisted IPs in the Sendbird Chat dashboard. Only servers residing on these whitelisted IPs can make calls to the Sendbird Chat Platform API.

IP whitelisting prevents bad actors from wreaking havoc if they somehow gain access to a customer’s API key. With IP whitelisting enabled, if a bad actor tries to make an API call from a server not listed with an approved IP address, the call would not go through and the agent would be restricted from accessing Sendbird applications. This feature is particularly important for businesses that handle sensitive user information– whether these are payments businesses, financial institutions, healthcare businesses or on-demand applications. It also continues to showcase Sendbird’s commitment to maintain the most stringent security in the industry so that organizations can confidently offer new, secure options to connect.

Message Threading for Better, Cleaner Discussions

Sendbird further differentiates its experience with the addition of message threading. Users now have the ability to start threads in their group chats. Threads can be created from any message to organize discussions and let users discuss topics in detail without adding clutter to a conversation’s main view. This ensures that channels stay readable and discussions become easier to keep track of.

Message threading is especially useful in workplace messengers, where threads can be used for organized discussions around specific messages, especially in busy channels; extended discussions can be contained in threads instead of the main channel. Communities also benefit from message threading. Most community users are already comfortable using threads in large forums. Now, they can get that same familiar experience in group chat, using them for deep discussions around a specific topic without clogging up the group chat with details.

Search – Find What You Want, When You Want

Sendbird is also excited to announce the availability of the much requested Message Search for Sendbird Chat. Users send hundreds of messages everyday in many different channels. With the new feature, users can search across any conversation they are a part of. It is particularly useful for marketplaces where buyers and sellers might need to find a conversation about a transaction or with workplaces messengers to reduce repetitive questions. It also makes it simple for healthcare providers and patients to find relevant information on symptoms, appointments and treatment plans.

Message search improves the overall user experience and increases user engagement. It also enables developers to build message search experiences in in-app chat. Additionally, developers can build capabilities for users to search for messages from within the channel, as well as outside the channel.

The new nOps API integration provides a seamless experience for AWS Partners to execute these AWS Well-Architected Framework Reviews. With the new integration, nOps partners can easily share information created by nOps during an AWS Well-Architected Framework Review with the AWS Well-Architected Tool for AWS program reporting requirements.

“nOps is excited to deliver this integration with the AWS Well-Architected Tool,” said JT Giri, CEO and Founder, nOps. “We’re committed to creating the best AWS Well-Architected Framework Review experience for partners and their customers. This seamless integration between nOps and the AWS Well-Architected Tool increases the quality of AWS Well-Architected Framework Reviews while reducing the time needed to execute them.”

“This is a bulls-eye,” said Nick Larsen, AWS Practice Lead at iOLAP, an AWS Advanced Consulting Partner and AWS Well-Architected Partner. “With nOps, you have the hands-down best partner productivity tool for executing AWS Well-Architected Framework Reviews. This API integration with AWS delivers an elegant last mile for sharing assessment data and submitting program information.”

AWS recently announced its AWS Well-Architected Tool Partner Integration Program committed to helping AWS Partners that offer tools that support or enhance AWS Well-Architected. nOps is among the selected Launch Partners in the program.

nOps announced additional new features in its platform designed to expand partners’ and customers’ abilities to optimize AWS infrastructure. These include:

    • “Workloads” on nOps: Creating workloads on nOps allows partners to build a set of resources that can be used in any of the AWS Well-Architected assessments (such as  AWS Well-Architected Framework Review or AWS Foundational Technical Review). Auto-discovery is nOps’ secret sauce in workloads – based on the resources added to the workload, nOps can auto-answer AWS Well-Architected assessment questions.
    • nOps integration with Jira Cloud: Partners can use nOps to integrate with Jira Cloud and their Jira workspaces and synchronize issues in a two-way integration. For example, as partners identify high-risk issues (HRIs) in their customers’ infrastructure for remediation, they can create and update issues, add comments, and change statuses. The resources function can group a list of tickets.
    • Ability to design AWS Well-Architected Framework Review reports: Partners can use the nOps templates generator to create their AWS Well-Architected Framework Review reports for different scenarios. They can design the report layout and insert marketing or services blocks and their findings from nOps’ auto-discovery feature. They can then use those templates to export their AWS Well-Architected Framework Review reports.
    • nOps custom rules: Partners and end clients can use the nOps custom rules engine to create queries on their infrastructure and use the custom rules in different places in the product, such as dashboards, reports, and email notifications.

The nOps platform is currently available in the  AWS Marketplace and through major distributors, including Ingram Micro Cloud.
