  • Exabeam Reinvents Security Analytics with Fusion XDR and Fusion SIEM Cloud Products to Address Security Needs at Scale

Innovative automated threat detection, investigation and response (TDIR) products illuminate industry’s first use case-driven, prescriptive and outcomes-based security solutions

RSAC 2021 and FOSTER CITY, Calif., May 11, 2021 – Exabeam, the security analytics and automation company, today announced Exabeam Fusion XDR and Exabeam Fusion SIEM, two new powerful cloud-delivered security products that efficiently solve threat detection, investigation and response (TDIR) without disrupting an organization’s existing technology stack. Exabeam Fusion products integrate Exabeam’s market-leading behavioral analytics and automation capabilities to deliver the industry’s first outcomes-based approach to security operations (SecOps). The Fusion product line showcases Exabeam’s open system approach to extended detection and response (XDR) and security information and event management (SIEM) enabling any organization to acquire an advanced TDIR layer on top of existing IT and security stacks. Exabeam is also announcing the general availability of Exabeam’s TDIR Use Case Packages that are integrated into Exabeam Fusion XDR and Exabeam Fusion SIEM.

Exabeam is reimagining XDR with the launch of Exabeam Fusion. Today’s effective SOCs have clearly defined outcomes aligned to TDIR workflows. The cloud-delivered products contain prescriptive workflows guided by pre-packaged, use case specific content to enable security analysts to defend against today’s common and evolving threats including external, compromised insider, and malicious insider attacks.

“Breach scenarios are still too frequent, with common attack techniques like lateral movement, data exfiltration, and privilege escalation appearing legitimate or spanning across siloed security products,” said Adam Geller, chief product officer at Exabeam. “When security analysts are unable to connect the dots between various systems, malicious attacks go undetected and lead to security breaches. Delivering Exabeam Fusion XDR and Exabeam Fusion SIEM from the cloud enables us to accelerate feature and functionality development, while deploying a use case framework that consistently delivers successful outcomes for our customers.”

According to an Exabeam-sponsored Ponemon research study that surveyed 596 IT and IT security practitioners, security teams spend 12 percent of their time detecting threats, 36 percent triaging, 26 percent investigating, and 26 percent responding. The majority of security analytics tools on the market today only automate detection and response. Exabeam Fusion automates 100 percent of the TDIR workflow, including the bulk of the time it takes — 62 percent — for security teams to conduct triage and investigation.

Exabeam Fusion combines market-leading behavior analytics, TDIR automation, and pre-built integrations with hundreds of third-party security and productivity tools to overcome weak signals from multiple products and find complex threats missed by other tools. Customers can easily identify and respond to critical security issues, intrusions and attacks from a single, centralized control plane, substantially increasing analyst productivity and reducing response times. Exabeam Fusion offerings accurately differentiate normal behavior from abnormal activity, apply risk scoring to identify notable users and events, and build Smart Timelines™ to automatically reconstruct security incidents providing accelerated investigation and response.

“With Exabeam Fusion, organizations can unify their current security tools to more efficiently detect, investigate, and respond to threats without the need for large-scale rip and replacements of their entire security stack,” said Ralph Pisani, president at Exabeam. “Our customers can keep their existing tools and merge our fully automated TDIR layer on top to benefit from Exabeam’s fast innovation, superior experience and accelerated time to value.”

Gorka Sadowski, chief strategy officer at Exabeam, added, “The Fusion product launch is in line with our strategic direction to expand beyond SIEM and solve the industry’s biggest SecOps challenges by offering a set of world-class, cloud-delivered products and solutions to the marketplace.”

Exabeam Fusion SIEM includes all Fusion XDR features and capabilities plus access to centralized log storage, powerful search, and compliance reporting. Fusion XDR and Fusion SIEM come in two editions, Core and Enterprise, to support organizations of all sizes. Learn more on the Exabeam website.

  • New Study Reveals Importance of Optimized Strategy for the Selection, Support, and Maintenance of Open Source Software

Organizations with optimized OSS strategies are 82% more likely to say their firm’s OSS initiatives exceeded expectations

MINNEAPOLIS, May 11, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Perforce Software, a provider of solutions to enterprise teams requiring productivity, visibility, and scale along the development lifecycle, today announced the results of a commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting and an upcoming webinar that analyzes the results.

The study, based on a survey of decision makers at enterprise organizations, showed 91% of companies who adopt open source either meeting or exceeding business expectations. Among teams implementing OSS, those with optimized OSS strategies were 82% more likely to have exceeded expectations.

However, even for companies with an open source software support strategy, 60% admitted to having a sub-optimal strategy in place.

“This study backs a long-held opinion at OpenLogic,” said Rod Cope, CTO at Perforce Software and Founder of OpenLogic. “Finding success with open source software as an enterprise organization requires a fully-formed strategy – especially as it applies to critical areas like support.”

The stakes are high for enterprise companies, as noted by the increasing shift to open source in all areas of business-critical IT infrastructure. The Forrester study found that 97% of respondents intend to move at least one aspect of their IT infrastructure to OSS.

That shift is backed by its connection to positive business outcomes. The Forrester study showed that companies who adopted OSS experienced greater flexibility, faster innovation, better employee satisfaction, and lower operational overhead.

“Open source software is a critical component of modern IT systems and infrastructures,” said Tim Russell, Chief Product Officer at Perforce Software. “And that’s not limited to traditional ROI metrics – this study shows a strong, positive connection between open source adoption, employee retention, and customer outcomes.”

The full Forrester study, Seize The Open Source Opportunity Through Comprehensive, Optimized Strategies, is available as a complimentary download at: www.openlogic.com/resources/forrester-consulting-study-open-source-strategy

A live webinar discussing the results of the Forrester study, featuring Justin Reock and guest speaker, Forrester Principal Analyst Chris Condo, will premiere on May 20, 2021. Interested parties can RSVP here: https://www.openlogic.com/resources/events/why-oss-strategy-is-key

  • Applitools Integrates With Rally for Fast and Automated Bug Management

Developers and QA engineers unlock full visibility into the appdev lifecycle process by efficiently logging bug details directly in Applitools via native Rally integration

SAN MATEO, Calif., May 11, 2021 — Applitools, provider of a next generation test automation platform powered by Visual AI and Ultrafast Test Cloud, today announced a new Rally integration as part of the Eyes 10.11 release. Rally is a popular application lifecycle management platform used to track each phase of agile software development, from planning to defect tracking. This integration allows developers and QA engineers to easily log and manage all data collected about bugs, and how to fix them, in a single workflow.

Learn more about the Rally integration in this blog post: (https://info.applitools.com/udlWg).

Applitools Eyes Visual AI technology allows customers to automatically test their applications and identify visual and functional bugs. Once an issue is discovered, customers typically record it in a bug tracking tool, like Rally. Previously, customers had to switch between Eyes and Rally to manually log, manage and fix issues. With the Rally integration, all of the data Eyes collects about bugs is linked seamlessly with Rally’s bug tracking system. Instead of developers and QA engineers managing bugs in Applitools and Rally separately, they have all of the information including screenshots, steps to reproduce, and environment details recorded in one place with a single click.

“It has always been a priority of Applitools to ensure we integrate seamlessly with our customers’ existing tools and processes,” said Moshe Milman, COO of Applitools. “Integrating with Rally was a natural next step. We understand how important it is for our customers to be able to document and track all information about their application lifecycle in one place so that they can assign appropriate handoffs and close the feedback loop efficiently.”

With this integration customers that are using Rally and Applitools now have a 360 degree view into the entire application development lifecycle from UX design and development to executing automated tests, analyzing test results, and reporting and fixing defects. Any stakeholder in the appdev process from product managers to UX designers, developers and testers can automatically pinpoint the exact cause of issues using the Applitools Root Cause Analysis capabilities and be able to fix defects on the spot.

“We rely on tools like Applitools for fast and efficient test automation and visual quality, they are an integral part of our automation toolbox,” said Tammie Davis, Director of Global Quality Engineering at IHG. “With the newly released Rally integration, teams will have a seamless flow for the defect triage workflow and optimizing the overall user experience.”

The Rally integration is a continuation of Applitools’ commitment to extending its integration ecosystem with more than 70 SDKs and integrations that fit seamlessly into customers’ existing workflows and tools.

  • Applause Codeless Automation Accelerates Release Velocity

First codeless test automation product built for enterprises lowers automation barrier to entry and accelerates innovation

Boston–May 11, 2021 – Applause, the worldwide leader in enabling digital quality, today announced the availability of its new SaaS product – Applause Codeless Automation (ACA). Applause Codeless Automation helps brands quickly scale their test automation strategies by enabling anyone to create test automation scripts – regardless of experience level or programming expertise – without writing a single line of code. ACA is compliant with modern open-source frameworks, including Selenium and Appium, and works with both native Android and iOS apps, with support for web applications coming soon.

Applause’s new SaaS product is the first enterprise-grade codeless test automation product on the market. With ACA, users simply click through the pathways of an app within the product, which captures the steps and creates a test script. From there, users can run the tests on real devices and execute tests within the ACA product.

ACA is part of Applause’s Product Excellence Platform – a holistic platform that delivers all the expertise, products, solutions and infrastructure needed to empower the world’s leading brands to release exceptional digital experiences to their end users.

Key Test Automation Challenges Persist According to Survey

Lack of programming experience and test automation expertise are common problems for brands across the world, according to a global survey of more than 2,000 people in product, engineering, QA and DevOps roles. The survey was conducted by Applause in February 2021. Key findings from the survey include:

    • 56% of respondents plan to adopt a codeless test automation solution. Respondents cited improved test coverage, ability to mature test automation faster and cost savings as the three most common drivers for purchasing a codeless automation product.
    • For those companies that are currently using low or minimal levels of test automation, 41% say that the biggest roadblock to automation success is a lack of skilled/experienced test automation experts.
    • For those that have made significant investments in test automation, the challenges are more diverse: 20% say that their automation progress is too slow and is not providing the expected level of coverage. Another 18% cited a lack of test automation resources as a key challenge.
    • The data indicates that when teams have more people who can write test automation scripts, they are able to automate a higher percentage of their test cases, highlighting the importance of enabling more users to build automation without needing programming expertise.
      • 74% of the companies that have three or fewer team members capable of writing test automation are automating less than 30% of their test cases.
      • 35% of those that have 10-plus team members capable of writing test automation, however, are automating more than 70% of their test cases.

“Traditional automation is still an essential part of any enterprise’s testing strategy. However, it’s clear that – especially when it comes to getting the necessary resources – businesses are struggling to leverage test automation to its full potential. That’s where Applause Codeless Automation can really benefit brands,” said Rob Mason, CTO of Applause. “ACA can take the pressure off of internal experts, particularly for less complex scenarios like smoke testing and portions of a regression testing suite. This ultimately allows teams to focus on higher-priority projects and mature test automation faster without the cost of additional resources.”

Contact Applause to receive a demo of ACA.

  • Fugue Announces IaC Security for AWS CloudFormation in Regula, the Open-Source Policy Engine

Regula performs security checks on AWS CloudFormation and Terraform infrastructure as code for AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud environments

Frederick, MD –  May 11, 2021 – Fugue, the company helping organizations innovate faster and more securely in the cloud, announced support for AWS CloudFormation in Regula, the open-source infrastructure as code (IaC) policy engine. Cloud engineering and security teams can now use Regula to secure their AWS CloudFormation and Terraform configurations prior to deployment—and apply those same rules to running cloud environments using the Fugue platform to secure the entire cloud development lifecycle. Expanding Regula capabilities represents Fugue’s continued leadership in innovating on policy as code for IaC and running cloud infrastructure since 2015.

Regula is ideal for organizations with DevOps teams that use both AWS CloudFormation and Terraform—and those operating multi-cloud environments. Regula is the only AWS CloudFormation security tool that can address vulnerabilities involving multiple resources, and the only one that helps teams meet the CIS AWS Foundations Benchmarks 1.2.0 and 1.3.0. Regula easily integrates into CI/CD pipelines and enables pre-commit IaC checks and provides pull request feedback. Fugue provides examples of Regula working with GitHub Actions for CI/CD.

“At Cadwell, we needed an effective way to check our infrastructure as code to ensure our cloud infrastructure deployments are secure so we can move faster in the cloud with confidence,” said Sawyer Ward, Enterprise Support Specialist at Cadwell Industries, Inc. “Regula is ideal for our infrastructure as code security requirements, and the ability to apply those same rules to our cloud environment with Fugue means we can keep our infrastructure in continuous compliance and avoid the risks and overhead of maintaining multiple policy frameworks.”

While Regula works independently of Fugue, teams can use Fugue to apply the same Regula rules to assess the security posture of their running AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud cloud infrastructure environments, eliminating the investment and cloud risk associated with using and reconciling different policy frameworks for different stages of the cloud development lifecycle and for different cloud platforms.

“Companies operating at scale in the cloud need a policy as code framework that’s flexible, works with the leading infrastructure as code tools, and can be used across cloud platforms at every stage of the cloud development lifecycle,” said Josh Stella, co-founder and CEO of Fugue. “By extending Regula support to AWS CloudFormation, cloud engineering and security teams now have a unified cloud policy framework that works with their tools and workflows, giving them the confidence to move faster in the cloud—without breaking the rules needed to keep cloud infrastructure secure and in compliance.”

Regula’s rule library checks for a wide variety of cloud misconfiguration vulnerabilities, such as dangerously permissive AWS IAM policies and security group rules, S3 buckets without “block public access” options enabled, Lambda function policies allowing global access, VPCs with flow logs disabled, EBS volumes with encryption disabled, and untagged cloud resources. View the full set of Regula rules here.

Regula supports user-defined rules using the Rego query language developed by the Open Policy Agent project—and includes helper libraries that enable users to easily build their own rules that conform to enterprise policies. Fugue created and open-sourced Fregot, a tool that enables developers to easily evaluate Rego expressions, debug code, and test policies.

Regula is available today on Fugue’s public GitHub repository and on DockerHub.

    About Fugue

Fugue helps organizations move faster in the cloud—without breaking the rules needed to keep cloud environments secure. The Fugue platform secures the entire cloud development lifecycle—from infrastructure as code through the cloud runtime. Fugue empowers cloud engineering and security teams to prove continuous compliance, build security into cloud development, and eliminate cloud misconfiguration. Fugue supports Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, and provides one-click reporting for CIS Foundations Benchmarks, CIS Controls, CIS Docker, CSA CCM, GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001, NIST 800-53, PCI, and SOC 2. By joining ServiceNow, together we will realize that vision for our customers and help transform the world of work in the process – and we couldn’t be more excited about it.”

Key Lightstep team members helped define modern observability with their prior work on tracing and metrics monitoring at Google. Lightstep team members also co‑created both the OpenTracing and OpenTelemetry open‑source projects, leading the industry’s overall migration away from proprietary agents towards the portable, always‑on, and open standards‑based acquisition of traces, metrics, and logs.

Catchpoint Integration with Google Cloud for comprehensive network performance visibility

Google Cloud’s Network Intelligence Center offers real-time network performance visibility into packet loss and latency at a per-project level and correlates with all of Google’s performance to quickly troubleshoot network issues. What has been missing until today was visibility into what is happening between the user and the applications and services hosted on Google Cloud, as well as visibility into Google Cloud to various SaaS applications.

“There has been a lack of single monitoring solutions that can collect and analyze telemetry on all aspects of application delivery,” said Mehdi Daoudi, CEO at Catchpoint. “This integration between Google Cloud and Catchpoint fixes that.”

Gaining Visibility into the Digital Wilderness

Catchpoint provides comprehensive visibility into what happens between the user and the cloud or the data center.  For most enterprises, this expanse is a highly complex, unpredictable, and virtually invisible digital wilderness. Catchpoint, leveraging more than 1,300 vantage points staged at strategic locations all around the globe, is able to rapidly spot and quantify problems as they occur, allowing enterprises to take action before users notice any issues.

Adding Catchpoint’s unique global digital experience insights enabled by the largest global monitoring network in the world, to the existing visibility provided by Google Cloud’s partner ecosystem, eliminates the visibility gaps that have long plagued enterprises.  No other cloud platform has true Blackbox data as a part of their observability stack.

With this integration, network observability and performance monitoring teams can instantly visualize Catchpoint data alongside Network Intelligence Center’s data and insights in the Google Cloud Monitoring platform. For extra flexibility, the Catchpoint data can also be visualized using Grafana, an open-source analytics and interactive visualization web application.

“This is a perfect example of the whole being greater than the sum of the parts,” said Lakshmi Sharma, Director of Product Management, Google Cloud. “Organizations can now visualize Catchpoint data alongside Google’s real-time performance metrics offered by Network Intelligence Center in Google Cloud Monitoring, in order to fix issues before they impact users.”

    Integrations Benefits

This integration eliminates visibility gaps and allows organizations to amplify application observability, which optimizes user experience and enables better management of digital business performance. Ultimately, this leads to better business outcomes.

    The integration is available immediately.

  • Linux Foundation Launches Open Source Digital Infrastructure Project for Agriculture, Enables Global Collaboration Among Industry, Government and Academia

AgStack Foundation will build and sustain the global data infrastructure for food and agriculture to help scale digital transformation and address climate change, rural engagement and food and water security
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., May 5, 2021 –  The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization enabling mass innovation through open source, today announced the launch of the AgStack Foundation, the open source digital infrastructure project for the world’s agriculture ecosystem. AgStack Foundation will improve global agriculture efficiency through the creation, maintenance and enhancement of free, reusable, open and specialized digital infrastructure for data and applications.
Founding members and contributors include leaders from both the technology and agriculture industries, as well as across sectors and geographies. Members and partners include Agralogics, Call for Code, Centricity Global, Digital Green, Farm Foundation, farmOS, HPE, Mixing Bowl & Better Food Ventures, NIAB, OpenTeam, Our Sci, Produce Marketing Association, Purdue University / OATS & Agricultural Informatics Lab, and the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC-ANR).
“The global Agriculture ecosystem desperately needs a digital makeover. There is too much loss of productivity and innovation due to the absence of re-usable tools and data. I’m excited to lead this community of leaders, contributors and members – from across sectors and countries – ro help build this common and re-usable resource – AgStack – that will help every stakeholder in global agriculture with FREE and open digital tools and data,” said Sumer Johal, Executive Director of AgStack.
Thirty-three percent of all food produced is wasted, while nine percent of the people in the world are hungry or undernourished. These societal drivers are compounded with legacy technology systems that are too slow and inefficient and can’t work across the growing and more complex agricultural supply chain. AgStack will use collaboration and open source software to build the 21st century digital infrastructure that will be a catalyst for innovation on new applications, efficiencies and scale.

AgStack consists of an open repository to create and publish models, free and easy access to public data, interoperable frameworks for cross-project use and topic-specific extensions and toolboxes. It will leverage existing technologies such as agriculture standards (AgGateway, UN-FAO, CAFA, USDA and NASA-AR); public data (Landsat, Sentinel, NOAA and Soilgrids; models (UC-ANR IPM), and open source projects like Hyperledger, Kubernetes, Open Horizon, Postgres, Django and more.

“We’re pleased to provide the forum for AgStack to be built and to grow,” said Mike Dolan, general manager and senior vice president of projects at the Linux Foundation. “It’s clear that by using open source software to standardize the digital infrastructure for agriculture, that AgStack can reduce cost, accelerate integration and enable innovation. It’s amazing to see industries like agriculture use open source principles to innovate.”

Centricity Global looks forward to bringing our teams, tools and applications to the AgStack community and to propelling projects that deliver meaningful value long-term,” said Drew Zabrocki, Centricity Global. “Now is the time to get things done.  The docking concept at AgStack is a novel way to bring people and technology together under a common, yet sovereign framework;  I see great potential for facilitating interoperability and data sovereignty in a way that delivers tangible value on the farm forward across the supply value chain.”

    Digital Green
“The explosion of agri-tech innovations from large companies to startups to governments to non-profits represents a game changer for farmers in both the Global South and North.  At the same time, its critical that we build digital infrastructure that ensures that the impact of these changes enables the aspirations of those most marginalized and builds their resilience, particularly in the midst of climate change. We’re excited about joining hands with AgStack with videos produced by & for farmers and FarmStack, a secure data sharing protocol, that fosters community and trust and puts farmers back in the center of our food & agricultural system,” said Rikin Gandhi, Co-founder and Executive Director.
    farmOS
“AgStack’s goal of creating a shared community infrastructure for agricultural datasets, models, frameworks, and tools fills a much-needed gap in the current agtech software landscape. Making these freely available to other software projects allows them to focus on their unique value and build upon the work of others. We in the farmOS community are eager to leverage these shared resources in the open source record keeping tools we are building together, said Michael Stenta, founder and lead developer, farmOS.

    Farm Foundation
“The advancements in digital agriculture over the past 10 years have led to more data than ever before—data that can be used to inform business decisions, improve supply and demand planning and increase efficiencies across stakeholders. However, the true potential of all that data won’t be fully realized without achieving interoperability via an open source environment. Interoperable data is more valuable data, and that will lead to benefits for farmers and others throughout the food and ag value chain,” said Martha King, Vice President of Programs and Projects, Farm Foundation.
Mixing Bowl & Better Food Ventures
“There are a lot of people talking about interoperability; it is encouraging to see people jump in to develop functional tools to make it happen. We share the AgStack vision and look forward to collaborating with the community to enable interoperability at scale,” said Rob Trice, Partner, The Mixing Bowl & Better Food Ventures.

    NIAB
