  • CloudPassage Halo Now in Solution-Specific Packages

SAN FRANCISCO – August 23, 2016 – CloudPassage today announced new packaged offerings for CloudPassage Halo to more cost-effectively address enterprises’ need for workload security. Award-winning CloudPassage Halo is now comprised of three packages–Halo Protect, Halo Segment and Halo Detect–which can be purchased separately or in any combination to provide workload protection, microsegmentation, compromise detection, compliance, DevSecOps and AWS EC2 security. At one-third the full platform pricing, the new packages provide enterprises with a more cost-effective entry point to workload security and the flexibility to add fully integrated functionality as the need arises.

“While most of our customers eventually use the full range of security controls in CloudPassage Halo, many are initially looking for a more tailored solution to a specific security problem,” said Jack Marsal, Product Marketing Director, CloudPassage. “These solution-focused packages allow enterprises to address their most acute security problem in the most cost-effective manner while giving them flexibility to add a broader range of security controls as their security needs evolve. Customers can evolve their security systems and posture at the pace which is right for them.”

The new CloudPassage Halo packages are designed to meet specific security challenges:

Halo Protect reduces the software attack surface of workloads by ensuring proper security configuration, discovering software vulnerabilities, and controlling administrative access.

    • Configuration Security Monitoring (CSM) automatically monitors operating system and application configurations, processes, networks services, and privileges and compares them to the latest policies and standard industry benchmarks.
    • Software Vulnerability Assessment (SVA) automatically scans servers and cloud workloads to check for software vulnerabilities and to maintain continuous exposure awareness in the cloud and across all environments.
    • Server access management lets IT security managers monitor, audit and evaluate account access and privileges of all servers in any operating environment though a single online management console.

Halo Segment  reduces the network attack surface through traffic discovery, host firewall orchestration, and multi-factor network authentication.

    • Traffic discovery and visualization lets IT security managers visualize the IP connection patterns and listening ports of workloads and servers, both between Halo-protected systems as well as connections to and from remote systems. This makes it easy to create dynamic firewall policies that prevent unwanted lateral movement of threats.
    • Workload firewall management lets IT security managers easily deploy and manage dynamic host firewall policies across all environments. Policies are based on the server tags, not the IP addresses, so changes to host firewall tables are made automatically as new servers are added, retired, or as IP addresses change.
    • Multi-factor network authentication lets IT security managers keep server ports and IP addresses hidden and secure while allowing temporary on-demand access for authorized users.

Halo Detect alerts you if any of your workloads have been compromised by monitoring whether important files have changed and by monitoring important server log files.

    • File Integrity Monitoring (FIM) protects cloud server integrity through constant monitoring for unauthorized or malicious changes to important system binaries or files.
    • Log-based Intrusion Detection (LIDS) continuously monitors key server log files for suspicious activity that could indicate misuse, misconfiguration or compromise.

  • Securosis Identifies Benefits of Runtime Application Self-Protection (RASP) in New Report

MONTREAL–(BUSINESS WIRE)–IMMUNIO, the industry leader in runtime application self protection (RASP), today announced the launch of a research report authored by information security and research firm Securosis entitled, “Understanding and Selecting Runtime Application Security and Protection.” The independent report explores how DevOps teams are addressing today’s current application security issues and where RASP can provide immediate and measureable benefits within the agile development process.

According to Securosis, “For [DevOps] teams, security products must do more than address application security issues; they need to mesh with continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) approaches, while offering automated capabilities and better integration with developer tools.” The research paper summarizes how RASP has emerged as a tool that can examine requests at the application layer to detect attacks and misuse in real time, fitting into the agile development process and behaving as its own code — running anywhere the application does.

“We’ve been examining DevOps for several years now and figuring out how to embed security into the development process is a huge goal for most organizations today. RASP is a technology many are exploring for this very reason, and most teams we talked to for this report were either considering RASP or already engaged in a proof-of-concept project,” said Adrian Lane, senior security strategist, Securosis. “RASP solutions are much more effective at attack detection than web application firewalls (WAFs) because — being embedded within the application at runtime — they actually see what’s really happening, and can more effectively apply security controls. Couple that with the ability to scale right along with the application, and it’s not hard to see why developers and operations teams are embracing this technology.”

The research paper defines RASP and covers the following topics related to the technology:

    • Use Cases: details the primary function of RASP while providing an overview of how it works as it relates to today’s market drivers
    • Overview of the Technology: highlights the technical facets of RASP, including deployment models, application integration, detection and blocking capabilities, language support, performance, maintenance and training
    • Integration: outlines how RASP fits both into the technology stack and development process to deliver applications

“Based on Securosis’ findings, it’s obvious DevOps teams are facing new challenges when implementing fast, agile development processes and WAFs, manual pen testing and static analysis of source code require a lot of manual effort and niche expertise to be effective at detecting vulnerabilities and attacks,” said Zaid Al Hamami, CEO and co-founder, IMMUNIO. “RASP is a completely different approach to application security and one the industry is still getting familiar with. The more teams realize how it can benefit them and begin piloting RASP software, the closer we’ll get to environments that truly protect applications in real time. Application security technology has evolved, and now you can have both effective security and agile development.”

The research report also features a detailed buyers guide for individuals and teams looking to understand how to best evaluate RASP solutions, and avoid the pitfalls that can come with new technologies. The paper is now available for free download athttps://www.immun.io/securosis-runtime-application-self-protection-report.

    About IMMUNIO

  • Diamanti Accelerates Continuous Integration Pipeline at MemSQL with New Container Networking and Storage Capabilities

LINUXCON, TORONTO — (Marketwired – August 22) — Diamanti, creators of the industry’s first purpose-built turnkey container appliance that brings guaranteed networking and storage performance levels to Linux containers, announced today at LinuxCon that MemSQL has joined Diamanti’s beta program to achieve high-volume, consistent test automation for their continuous integration (CI) pipeline.

CI is a popular development methodology that validates code with automated build and test processes to quickly identify and resolve defects.  While CI dramatically improves developer productivity, organizations often find that high-volume automated testing creates computing challenges that require customized test platform environments.

MemSQL, a leading database platform provider for real-time analytics, is at the forefront of CI and automated verification.  MemSQL began its verification cluster with several Linux nodes in the earliest days of the company and has since expanded to hundreds of servers powering thousands of tests per hour to maintain very high quality code releases.

“As a distributed, in-memory database optimized for speed and scale, it’s critical that MemSQL deliver a rock-solid platform that exceeds our users’ expectations and works across many customer environments,” said Carl Sverre, principal architect at MemSQL. “MemSQL has millions of test scenarios in complex configurations.  We have found Diamanti’s container appliance assists us to rapidly validate new features and software updates in the context of realistic environments, ultimately allowing MemSQL to out-innovate other distributed databases.”

Diamanti launched earlier this year to solve network and storage challenges in Linux containerized environments. MemSQL, an early Diamanti beta site, has reported notable benefits in their CI automated test environment:

OPERATIONAL AUTOMATION – The Diamanti appliance allows rapid network and storage configuration for high-volume test scenarios through an API, rather than manually configuring infrastructure or relying on fixed configurations. This allows new degrees of control and automation in creating isolated networks and storage volumes to scale verification more easily than before.

WORKLOAD PRIORITIZATION AND GUARANTEED PERFORMANCE – Not every test scenario carries the same priority or duration. Some tests are more I/O-intensive, some are more critical, and some last only seconds while others require hours. Diamanti simplifies workload prioritization, keeps tests isolated from each other, and guarantees that long-running tests are not interrupted by short-running tests.

RAPID SIMULATION OF STORAGE AND NETWORKING CONFIGURATIONS – Robust software platforms like MemSQL must be verified against many permutations of customer environments. In so-called “four-corner testing,” where multiple conditions are simulated at their extremes, code is evaluated in worst-case conditions. Diamanti enables organizations like MemSQL to quickly emulate many different networking and storage variables in their CI pipeline. Rather than having to build out a massive hardware lab, organizations can virtualize the network and storage environments using Diamanti.

“Being lightweight and fast to deploy, container technology is ideal for the rapid pace of a modern continuous-integration methodology,” said Mark Balch, vice president of products and marketing at Diamanti. “Diamanti delivers agile container network and storage capabilities through an automated deployment process that is tightly integrated with mainstream open-source container stacks.  We connect to existing networks without costly rearchitecting, and eliminate manual infrastructure tuning that slows down application lifecycles.  Diamanti is pleased to welcome MemSQL into our beta program and help advance their innovative analytics platform.”

Visit Diamanti at LinuxCon to see a product demonstration and learn more.  Diamanti is now available for new beta users.  Sign up at www.diamanti.com to take a test drive and try it yourself.

About Jenkins and the Jenkins Community
Jenkins is the leading open source automation server supported by a large and growing community of developers, testers, designers and other people interested in continuous integration, continuous delivery and other modern software delivery practices. Built on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), it provides more than 1,200 plugins that extend Jenkins to automate with practically any technology software delivery teams use.

The Jenkins community advocates the use of Jenkins to the global development community, serving as a central source for tutorials, forums and other helpful resources for Jenkins users of all experience levels.
