  • Tasktop Doubles Year-on-Year Subscription Revenue in First Half Fiscal Year 2018

Reflects Strong Demand for Its Value Stream Integration Solution

VANCOUVER, BC, May 1, 2018– Tasktop, the leader in Value Stream Integration, today announced that during the record-setting first half of fiscal year (FY) 2018 — covering the reporting period Oct. 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018 – the company doubled its year-on-year subscription revenue vs. the same period of the prior fiscal year. New customer brands from its direct business increased by 60 percent compared to last year’s FY, while revenue from partners remained strong as well.

Tasktop’s strong revenue growth has been driven by a market that increasingly understands the value of Value Stream Integration. For example, an April 2018 report from Forrester (Elevate Agile-Plus-DevOps With Value Stream Management by Christopher Condo and Diego Lo Giudice) noted that “Practicing value stream management (VSM) allows companies to make their Agile plus development and operations (DevOps) development environments into real digital business drivers. With VSM, organizations implementing Agile-plus-DevOps will better understand the value they deliver, the efficiencies they gain, and the further optimization possibilities for each software product in their delivery pipeline.” The report further noted that “Tasktop provides integration capabilities across a broad range of DevOps tooling — a core VSM capability that enables traceability, visibility, and connections between the people, process, and technology.”

According to Neelan Choksi, Tasktop president and COO, “We’ve had an incredibly strong start to our year, which reflects the growing demand for value stream management solutions. More and more organizations are realizing that Agile and DevOps aren’t enough to provide the visibility CIOs need to align the software they’re delivering with critical business needs. For organizations seeking to transform their development environments into real digital business drivers, Tasktop is clearly the way to go.”

Q1 2018 highlights included the following:

    Employee Growth

Tasktop increased its global staffing, with significant growth in both its Vancouver headquarters and Austin (U.S. headquarters) offices. Overall, headcount grew by more than 30 percent during the past twelve months (from April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018), while go-to-market team staffing increased by 50 percent during this period.

    Leadership

Dominica DeGrandis joined the company as director of Digital Transformation. In this role, she helps grow market awareness of Tasktop within the DevOps community and assists organizations to better understand, visualize and optimize their value streams. DeGrandis is a regular speaker at global DevOps and Lean events and her latest book: Making Work Visible: Exposing Time Theft to Optimize Work & Flow, was published in November 2017.

    Integrations

In the first half of FY 2018, Tasktop augmented its Tasktop Integration Hub with an integration with Intland’s codeBeamer ALM, an application lifecycle management tool that enables teams to manage their requirements, software development, testing and quality assurance, risk management, variants management and more. Driven by a number of Tasktop’s automotive, medical and defense customers, this codeBeamer integration with Tasktop guarantees real-time stakeholder collaboration across the lifecycle to enhance productivity and reduce costs and time to market.

    Awards/Charity

During this period, Tasktop was once again named to the 2018 Ready to Rocket list. The company also launched the Tasktop Community program to give back to the communities in which its employees live and work.

    About Tasktop

Over one million users employ Tasktop’s Value Stream Integration technology to transform software development and delivery. • ScienceLogic Launches Industry-First Context Infused AIOps Platform

New ScienceLogic SL1 enables Ops to move at the speed of Dev, so enterprise can move at the speed of opportunity

    • SL1 levels the field between the pace which Dev creates and Ops deploys and maintains services
    • Two powerful new technologies aided by AI/ML to bring real-time context to operational data and scale automations at machine speed
    • Innovation allows enterprises to manage Business Service health in real-time by connecting applications to underlying infrastructure for an end-to-end service view

Reston, Va. – May 1, 2018 – ScienceLogic, a leader in providing IT operations with actionable insights from IT operational data, today announced the launch of ScienceLogic SL1, its new, industry-defining AIOps platform.

IT operations is the last great frontier in search of resilient digital experiences. For modern Ops, keeping pace in an increasingly ephemeral world exceeds human cognition, where application and infrastructure workloads traverse multi-cloud architectures and rapidly transition technology landscapes. To thrive, Ops must retool itself, ready to support the demands for service agility, onboarding of new lines of business and ongoing M&A.

Enter ScienceLogic SL1, which was designed and developed with the specific goal of leveling the playing field between the pace at which Dev can create great digital experiences, and the ability of Ops to make them resilient experiences.

“Ten years ago, we saw enterprises moving to a state of ephemeral operations, motivated by speed and agility. It started at the infrastructure layer but evolved quickly towards DevOps movements emphasizing service development and rapid release.  Today’s performance management systems must provide operational insights in real-time derived from a deep understanding of dependency mapping between applications and its underlying infrastructure,” said ScienceLogic CEO, Dave Link.

SL1 understands how mission-critical applications connect to the underlying infrastructure by deriving topology maps, which enable real-time service health views that inform, analyze and act. This context allows businesses to bring meaning across various data silos and generate insights that drive automated actions like never before.

“As IBM continues to grow our ecosystem around the IBM Services Platform with Watson, it is critical we work with other leading companies who can assist in delivering solutions that augment human intelligence to help improve service provider operations and free up professionals to focus on driving higher value results,” said Bridget Karlin, IBM Services CTO and Vice President of Technology, Innovation & Automation. “In working with ScienceLogic to utilize AI to help enterprises predictively ensure IT success before business services are impacted, we are better enabling our clients to create a resilient digital experience.”

    ScienceLogic SL1 Core Capabilities

    • See– Automated real-time discovery inclusive of applications and infrastructure across IT silos and multi-cloud environments
    • Contextualize– Automated topology maps to establish real-time relationships between disparate data sets bringing context to data
    • Act– Automated issue discovery and subsequent remediation across a diverse range of technologies including CMDB (Configuration Management Database), DevOps and APM (Application Performance Management)

    SL1 Innovative Technologies at Work

    • PowerMap– If context is king for AIOps, PowerMap is what provides that context. PowerMap creates a multi-dimensional topological map of dependencies in real-time between all components and across all layers of technology – providing immediate context to the underlying raw data. This becomes a crucial input source for Machine Learning engines to provide actionable insights and automations.
    • PowerSync– If automation is the endgame of AIOps, PowerSync is the engine that powers it.  By providing a universal communication bridge to get data in, share data out and keep data synchronized, PowerSync breaks down the data silos that currently limit automation.   It provides multi-directional and intelligent data transformations asynchronously and concurrently among any number of platforms.  PowerSync completes the story with a powerful automation engine to enact change to the environment.

    Early Customer Feedback

“Our partnership with ScienceLogic plays a key part in our expanding digital workplace offering, ensuring resilient customer experiences through intelligent discovery, data normalization and proactive management of edge to data center services,” said Norihisa Takayama, General Manager for Digital Workplace at Konica Minolta. “Within Workplace Hub, our scalable IT ecosystem that helps organisations orchestrate their physical and digital resources, SL1 provides service health visibility through automated discovery of IoT edge devices to service cognition via real-time ephemeral application to infrastructure mapping. In addition, SL1 can analyze and connect millions of metrics per second, enabled by a horizontally scalable NoSQL architecture and a topology-based analytics engine. This enables automated root cause analysis, proactive remediation, and smart provisioning to millions of edge devices via our AI enabled management platform.”

“Flexential is a long-time partner of ScienceLogic, focused on helping customers optimize their IT transformation journey,” said Jim Parks SVP, Central Operations at Flexential. “ScienceLogic’s SL1 will help us become more competitive and address new opportunities by creating new advanced services that combine business service visibility with applications and infrastructure views – while giving our operations team greater levels of automation to help us deliver outstanding service quality.”

“T-Systems is solving major enterprise challenges by partnering with ScienceLogic,” said Thorsten Meyer, Product Manager at T-Systems. “ScienceLogic SL1 helps enterprises to manage business services cost-effectively. Through real-time Business dashboards, our customers can understand application and service health across the underlying transient infrastructure of clouds, microservices, and containers. The unified business service, applications and infrastructure visibility in ScienceLogic SL1 will enable us to create compelling new managed services for business-critical functions”.

    Industry Analysis

“Modern IT systems — with their modularity, dynamism, and distributedness — require a multi-perspective approach even to understand what is happening as they are being observed, let alone to project their future or to determine the causes that got them to where they are. Hence, enterprises should select those AIOps platforms that are capable of ingesting and analyzing data from a multiplicity of sources.”

    • Gartner Market Guide for AIOps Platforms, August 2017

ScienceLogic recorded a video podcast with Forrester Principal Analyst Charles Betz, who discussed the importance of Cognitive Ops and Information Management:

“There have been some real limitations with how we’ve approached the problem of infrastructure management. You have silos of data in the CMDB, APM, log managers, and aggregation, end-user experience monitoring and more. But it’s not really being effectively brought together, let alone with the human-to-human telemetry. We need cognitive operations in a closely human-partnered way to enable operators to dig down very quickly […] and pursue specific hypothesis in real-time and at high-tempo in high-consequence situations.”

  • Other Code Review Tools Left Behind as Collaborator Streamlines Workflows with Unified Code and Document Review

SmartBear Announces 2 New Microsoft Integrations in Latest Release of Collaborator, Making It Easy for Teams to Streamline Workflows by Standardizing Code and Document Reviews with One Tool

SOMERVILLE, Mass. – April 30, 2018 – SmartBear, the leader in software quality tools for teams, today announced new integrations with Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Visio in the latest release of Collaborator. These new integrations build on existing document and code review capabilities, making it easy for teams to streamline and speed-up their workflows by standardizing code and document reviews with one tool.

Process-conscious development teams conduct peer reviews on changes that could introduce defects into their code base, requirements, design documents, test cases, and user stories. Currently, those reviews for most teams are scattered across email threads, chat tools, document review tools, and code review tools – which slows down productivity and introduces risk into the review process. Collaborator is the only peer review tool with the standardization capabilities necessary to drive meaningful process improvement, such as custom templates, checklists, and detailed reporting, all in a central peer review platform. With the release of v11.3, Collaborator adds PowerPoint and Visio to its list of native Microsoft integrations, joining Word, Excel, Visual Studio, and Team Foundation Server.

The 2017 State of Code Review Report revealed that 91percent of teams are conducting document reviews as part of their development process. Other peer code review tools are not designed to incorporate collaborative document review, especially not at scale. For organizations eager to streamline workflows and consolidate tools, the robust document review capabilities enhanced in the latest release of Collaborator offer a compelling alternative to managing separate peer review solutions for code and documents.

“This release of Collaborator makes it easier to manage peer reviews across the software development lifecycle as we continue to add support for additional document types,” said Ryan Lloyd, VP of Products, Test and Development at SmartBear. “Teams that have benefited from standardizing their code review process with Collaborator can now easily add PowerPoint and Visio files into their review. This is really valuable for highly-regulated companies that would otherwise need to manually document these reviews.”

Collaborator 11.3 also introduces “light mode” and “dark mode” UI themes, the ability to create JIRA tickets within the Diff Viewer, and LDAP/AD syncing to easily port over user and group configurations from an existing directory. As development teams continue to adopt new tools and accommodate legacy systems, interoperability has never been more important. Collaborator offers the most connected peer review solution on the market with 21 actively-supported integrations.

For more information on Collaborator, join the “What’s New in Collaborator 11.3” webinar on May 2, 2018, showcasing all major features in this release. Sign up for the webinar at:

  • Rookout Launches Rapid Production Debugging Solution With $4.2m Funding

The solution collects data on-demand from live code with just a few clicks

Tel Aviv, 26 April 2018 – Rookout, the rapid production debugging solution, today announced their launch and $4.2 million funding by TLV Partners and Emerge.

Using Rookout, a company can tackle bugs and understand issues by collecting and pipelining data on-demand, without any need for coding, re-deploying or restarting their applications.

Tackling a bug or an issue often means writing extra code, testing it, getting it approved, pushing it to production and then often discovering that it still didn’t produce the data needed to solve the problem. This makes bug-hunting and data-exploration a long and complicated process that consumes R&D resources.

Rookout solves this problem by letting dev teams set up ad-hoc rules inside their production code. These rules work like non-breaking breakpoints, collecting the required data without prior instrumentation. The application keeps running as normal, while the data is collected and then sent immediately to any destination such as alerting systems, monitoring, logging and analytics applications or any generic webhook. The collected data can also be viewed on Rookout’s IDE, allowing the user to close the loop within a single view.

Already, over a dozen software companies have joined Rookout’s early adopter program and are using it on their production environments. Rookout currently supports Python, JVM and NodeJS; on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and local servers. Rookout can be used with serverless and containerized applications, providing a vital debugging option for cloud-native code.

Rookout was founded by two Israeli low-level software engineers, Or Weis and Liran Haimovitch. They drew inspiration from their time in elite cyber-units in Israel’s security services where they discovered that visibility of code is key for both attackers and defenders.

While being challenged by production debugging in other projects they ran, they realized that this practice of visibility could be applied to software development more generally.

“Fixing bugs has become coupled with the process of deploying new software,” said Rookout CEO Or Weis. “It doesn’t have to be like that. We realized that by separating debugging from the broader development process, dev teams can gain real visibility into their live code, enabling the agility and speed modern software demands.”

Rona Segev of TLV Partners and Dovi Ollech of Emerge, joined hands to invest $4.2 million in Rookout.

When we met the founders of Rookout, we were blown away by their vision and product depth,” Said Segev, “The shift to microservices, coupled with the rise of containers and serverless has presented new challenges and opportunities. Rookout presents a completely new approach to data collection.”

“Rookout’s ability to grab exactly the data you need when you need it answer the challenge of production debugging across platforms” added Ollech.

  • Morpheus Data Expands Multi-Cloud DevOps Automation and Enables MSPs

Industry’s broadest set of integrations provides unified orchestration and self-service provisioning for hybrid IT

Greenwood Village – April 26, 2018 – Today, Morpheus Data announced updates to its cloud management platform which will help customers reduce tool sprawl while getting more value from existing investments.

    News highlights:

    • Enhanced automation for Kubernetes, Terraform, and Microsoft ARM
    • New and enhanced cloud connectors for Oracle, Azure, and T-Systems
    • Increasing momentum with managed service providers

The cloud management platform (CMP) market has evolved in recent years with narrow feature sets giving way to providers who address heterogeneous environments and broad issues including cost optimization, secure self-service provisioning, data protection, and day-2 operations such as logging and monitoring.  Now, customer needs are expanding to include DevOps initiatives.

According to recent Enterprise Management Associates (EMA) research 71 percent of enterprises are leveraging automation as part of IT modernization projects.  “Declarative automation, as found in technologies like Kubernetes and Terraform, is the best way to abstract apps from infrastructure but exposes skill gaps between developers and infrastructure teams”, says Torsten Volk, managing research director at EMA.

The Morpheus unified multi-cloud orchestration platform combines simple and standardized cloud management with application-centric DevOps automation giving it a unique opportunity to bridge this gap.  Today it extended its lead with several tool and cloud enhancements which expose developer-friendly features with ops-friendly interfaces.

“Traditional infrastructure-centric CMP offerings have stopped short of truly addressing DevOps needs,” said Brad Parks, VP of Business Development, Morpheus Data.  “With Morpheus, everybody gets what they want – developers, operations, and executives all get to manage their hybrid cloud their way.”

Improving developer agility with automation enhancements

Speed of application deployment is driving adoption of automation and container technologies such as Kubernetes (K8s).  However, EMA research indicates less than 10 percent of enterprises plan to leverage Kubernetes in its raw form, without commercial management software on top.  That’s because, maintenance of these tools falls to infrastructure teams without the right skills.   In fact, 43 percent of enterprises list integration with existing tools and skill sets as the number 1 requirement for adoption of containers[i].

Morpheus helps customers meet this requirement with powerful infrastructure-as-code application blueprints which are completely infrastructure and cloud agnostic, blending the power of declarative scripting with an intuitive graphical interface (GUI) designed for everyday administrators needing a single point of control.   Morpheus also helps corporate IT extract the most value from K8s by enabling teams to easily deploy and manage K8s alongside other technologies.

With today’s updates, customers can now utilize native K8s scripting as part of Morpheus workflows.  This announcement also extends Morpheus’ own JSON/YAML scripting framework to third party infrastructure-as-code platforms starting with HashiCorp Terraform and Microsoft ARM.   All of these new integrations enable customers to leverage the full power of third-party tools while consolidating analytics, reporting, governance, monitoring, logging, and data protection across all clouds in an easy to manage interface.

Giving infrastructure more flexibility for multi-cloud and hybrid IT

In addition to automation, Morpheus reduces complexity by helping customers standardize app-stack deployment across any public or private cloud both on-premises and off.  This balance of standardization and flexibility is critical given that 68 percent of enterprises are pursuing a multi-cloud strategy[ii].

The latest Morpheus software release brings more multi-cloud options including support for Oracle customers running hybrid IT operations across Oracle VM and Oracle’s public cloud offering.  Morpheus also augmented its native scaling engine for customers who want to utilize native Microsoft Azure Scale Sets in Azure and AzureStack deployments.  For customers in Europe, the company added integration with T-Systems Open Telecom Cloud which blends public-cloud flexibility with private-cloud compliance.  These updates are on top of what is already the broadest set of cloud connectors in the industry.

Momentum with managed service providers and technology partners

As the digital transformation landscape continues to accelerate, organizations are recognizing the difficulty of managing an increasingly unpredictable array of cloud options and automation technologies.   Getting it right can mean a significant investment in tools, education, training and skill development.

This is why many enterprises are turning to managed service providers to fast track transformation projects.  In fact, according to recent research, the global market for managed IT services is growing at 11.5% CAGR and expected to exceed $250 billion by 2021[iii].

Joining the Morpheus family of MSPs is Exponential-e, a leading provider of high-speed connectivity and managed application services for over 2,800 customers in the United Kingdom.  In combination with Pivotal and Dell Technologies, Exponential-e has selected Morpheus as the core enabler for its innovative cloud services.

“To create a truly unified service experience, you need to harness the power of a multi-cloud and software-defined operating model”, says Jon Bridges, Head of Cloud for Exponential-e. “Morpheus will help us orchestrate on-premises, private and public cloud services for our customers so they become next-generation internal service providers.”

Morpheus enables internal IT to simplify service delivery and abstract the complexity of underpinning infrastructure and vendor specific IaaS and PaaS interfaces.  Morpheus is not only 100 percent infrastructure and platform agnostic it’s also multi-tenant and supports white labeling, enabling solution providers to deliver hosted multi-cloud orchestration for their customers.  Exponential-e joins MSPs such as OneNeck, Technologent, Telia, and Ficolo who already utilize Morpheus to power their cloud service offerings.
