  • InfluxData and Sensu Offer Joint Solution to Handle Time Series Data in Event Monitoring Pipeline

InfluxDB Enterprise Edition and InfluxCloud Now Integrated as Preferred Time Series Data Store in Sensu Core for Application and Infrastructure Event Monitoring

SAN  FRANCISCO — Nov. 27, 2018 — InfluxData, the modern Open Source Platform built specifically for metrics, events and other time series data, today announced its strategic partnership with Sensu. The two companies have collaborated on a joint solution, adding the ability to handle large time series data workloads to Sensu’s market-leading monitoring software for critical applications and enterprise infrastructure.

Sensu’s products – now in use by large organizations in the finance and technology sectors – are deployed on customers’ own infrastructure and allow IT, development and operations teams to easily monitor and collect metrics from throughout the infrastructure stack. Then, customers can analyze that data through special dashboards to remediate IT-performance issues.

With the addition of InfluxData’s platform, the Sensu Core product line can now handle large workloads of time series data, streaming from any infrastructure source that sends data to Sensu. Developers using Sensu Core can now collect, process, analyze, and store even larger data workloads using any of InfluxData’s products, including InfluxDB open source, InfluxDB Enterprise Edition, and InfluxCloud, InfluxData’s managed database-as-a-service offering.

“As more companies use software to deliver value to customers, the availability of that software is increasingly important,” said Caleb Hailey, CEO of Sensu. “Monitoring has become a core competency for IT organizations, and our goal is to deliver a product that scales with the needs of these organizations, helping them eliminate downtime and revenue loss as a result.”

“We are excited to partner with Sensu and bring our time series data platform to developers running multi-cloud deployments,” said Brian Mullen, VP of Business Development at InfluxData. “Multi-cloud distribution is a reality; and with this comes exponential growth in data – specifically time series data. With Sensu we bring together two purpose-built tools to optimize the developer experience for monitoring multi-cloud deployments.”

The companies have entered into a partnership agreement, in which Sensu will include InfluxData products as their preferred time series platform in the Sensu Core and Sensu Core Enterprise products, respectively, sold to customers around the world. • Dataguise Supports GDPR Compliant Cloud Initiatives at AWS re:Invent 2018

Next Generation DgSecure Platform Accelerates GDPR Compliance Across AWS Cloud Infrastructure

FREMONT, Calif. — November 27, 2018 — Dataguise, a leader in data privacy protection and compliance, today highlighted the company’s newest generation software at AWS re:Invent 2018 in Las Vegas, November 27-29 in booth 2422. New capabilities in the software are designed to make it easier for organizations to extract maximum value from available data without the unplanned exposure of sensitive customer information.

At the event, Dataguise will demonstrate how DgSecure is supporting enterprise administrators using Amazon Redshift, Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) as the basis for secure data analytics, application testing and development, and the general protection of sensitive data across enterprise cloud repositories.

Dataguise DgSecure delivers a one-stop solution for the detection, auditing, protection, and monitoring of sensitive data and personally identifiable information (PII) across the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud storage portfolio as well as structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data repositories located on the corporate premises. New in DgSecure are enhanced capabilities that support General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance across some of the most data-rich environments in the enterprise, including:

    • Expanded GDPR platform support and streamlined flow of Right of Access (RoA) and Right to Erasure (RtE) across data platforms;
    • Unique and Total Counts of sensitive information detected – for use in GDPR Breach Reporting;
    • New GDPR view within the DgSecure dashboard;
    • Enhanced isolation for multiple groups using the product within multi-tenant environments, and
    • New built-in scheduler for GDPR compliance related procedures.

“As Trov continues to reinvent the notion of insurance with simple and transparent approaches, we needed a cloud solution that offered unmatched protection of our sensitive data. Dataguise and AWS gave us the confidence we need to rapidly innovate while maintaining compliance,” said Tyrone Mills, Chief Information Security Officer, Trov. “When we became aware of Dataguise, what really clicked was the ability to find sensitive data in our structured and unstructured data sources, including Amazon S3 buckets, MySQL, MongoDB databases, and so on.”

“Customers are increasingly looking for new ways to efficiently protect their data,” said Ken Chestnut, Senior Manager, Partner Ecosystem, Amazon Web Services, Inc. “We are happy to support Dataguise as they help customers get the most value from data, especially in highly regulated industries, with a comprehensive, scalable, and enterprise-grade infrastructure that is secure and compliant.”

Organizations benefitting from the use of Dataguise DgSecure with AWS have a complete visual on where sensitive data is located and whether it is properly protected to comply with a wide-ranging set of data privacy regulations. Dataguise allows customers to further gain from the value of data within Amazon Redshift, Amazon RDS, and Amazon S3 and invites data and security administrators with data infrastructure(s) deployed on AWS to see how Dataguise and its team of GDPR experts can assist with cloud-based data privacy protection and compliance.

“It is now mandatory for organizations with any business operations in Europe to protect or erase sensitive customer data as mandated by the GDPR,” said JT Sison, VP, Business Development and Marketing, Dataguise. “Detecting that information has been a challenge for many data privacy and compliance officers, especially at large enterprises with petabytes of data. DgSecure provides the tools necessary to make this possible. We look forward to sharing case studies of customers in highly regulated industries at the event this week, showing their use of DgSecure to comply with a wide range of privacy data mandates.”

  • Redgate Software demonstrates ethical selling approach with two big wins at the BESMA Awards

Cambridge UK, Tuesday 27 November 2018 – The recent British Excellence in Sales Management Awards saw Redgate Software doubly rewarded for its efforts in instilling an ethical sales culture. The leading Microsoft data platform tools vendor won gold in both the Sales Director and Key Account Manager of the Year categories.

Now in its 12th year, the BESMA awards represent the UK’s highest level of recognition for outstanding sales achievement, and highlight organizations which demonstrate best practice in sales. Long recognized as the sales industry’s top awards event, the quality of entries increases each year, and 2018 was no different. 800 entries were received from companies like IBM, Marriott Hotels, McAfee, PwC, and Rolls-Royce, and there were 80 finalists across 17 different categories.

The entries were evaluated by a panel of high caliber judges headed by Kerry Nutley, Vice President Digital Sales at BT, and including senior executives from companies as varied as BAE Systems, Experian, Lloyds Register, Microsoft and Siemens.

The awards dinner was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London, on 26 October 2018, where the Redgate sales team saw two of their peers being rewarded.

In the Key Account Manager category, Mike Hallam, a BESMA judge and Director of Indirect Sales at Virgin Media Business, said prior to the winner being announced: “What we as judges are looking for are the finalists to explain to us what they see as the key strategic pillars for them to develop the relationship, how they overcome challenges and objections that the customer may have with them, and equally how they obviously grow the account.”

Key to that was ethical selling – working for the customer, rather than simply focusing on a sale at any cost. In a crowded category with strong candidates from companies like PwC, SSE and Yell, the winner was James King, Redgate Account Executive.

The Sales Director category was equally challenging, and the judges were looking for an individual who had shown motivation and leadership within a culture of responsible and ethical sales, delivering solid results.

As Darren Bayley, a BESMA judge and Vice President of Marketing at Dentsply Sirona, said: “We were looking for someone truly outstanding, both in terms of leadership, strategy, and also delivering results. But really importantly as well, we were looking for someone who puts ethical selling right at the heart of their business.”

Despite competing against an impressive line-up of finalist from the companies like Cognism, Natterbox and Vodafone, the winner was Cassi Roper, Redgate Regional Sales Director.

Redgate was also a finalist in the Sales Employer of the Year category, and the Sales Team of the Year (under 50 people) category, and the awards are a validation of a two year journey for the sales team.

As Cassi Roper said after the ceremony: “I’m delighted to win an award, but I’m also really proud that Redgate was a finalist in four categories. That’s a result of a huge amount of effort from the whole company in supporting the sales effort, opening new sales offices in Australia and Germany as well as the US, and putting customers at the heart of how we work.”

  • New Research Exposes The Real Cost of Building Your Own Performance Monitoring

Report from APM Experts Details Continuous Man-Hours Needed to Utilize Open Source Technology For Application Performance Monitoring

SAN MATEO, CALIF. AND SOLINGEN, GERMANY – NOVEMBER 26, 2018

Instana, the first monitoring solution to fully automate all aspects of application performance monitoring (APM), today announced the release of new research highlighting the true cost of manual application performance monitoring methods compared to automatic monitoring solutions. The new research, released by APM Experts, details that manual methodologies leveraging Open Source monitoring technology increased annual monitoring costs by as much as 500% or more. Instana is allowing complimentary downloads of the research whitepaper on their website.

“Building performance monitoring by hand requires continuous laborious effort from a DevOps team’s best engineers,” said Pete Abrams, Instana co-founder and COO. “The engineers must decide what to trace, figure out how to integrate tracing code and build a trace repository; then finally, they must build up service performance rules and an alerting strategy. The new APM Experts research clearly details that this continuous effort expended by DevOps engineers to create and maintain manual monitoring is hard to justify, especially when there are monitoring tools available that require zero effort.”

APM Experts breaks down the full costs incurred by DevOps teams using different monitoring solutions, including open source monitoring methods, traditional APM tools and new automated tools. Using real world data gathered by interviewing DevOps organizations, APM Experts was able to determine the fully burdened true costs of manually building and maintaining monitoring, determining the cost per application, server and even microservice.

“When we began researching the costs of manual monitoring versus automated methods, we knew there would be some differences,” said Bernd Harzog, the CEO of APM Experts. “The final results showed that not only is building your own monitoring much more costly, it becomes exponentially more expensive as applications become bigger.”

The new research comes as Instana continues to enhance its automation capabilities with new features around application discovery, infrastructure monitoring, and tracing. The company provides an automatic application performance and infrastructure monitoring solution that automates the entire monitoring process. Recent product announcements included a new AutoTrace™ capability for the Python language so that developers don’t have to write any custom tracing code, yet get full visibility into every request through their code.

“We knew that automatic monitoring was a key reason for customers selecting Instana,” continued Abrams. “APM Experts has detailed the economics to show just how much companies can save, even on small projects, by applying automation.”

Instana’s automatic Applications and Infrastructure monitoring is highlighted this week during the AWS re:Invent conference, where Instana is a Silver sponsor. The company is demoing the full breadth of their solution’s automation from real-time application discovery to service level monitoring, tracing and troubleshooting. Instana is also offering free cost assessments based on the APM Experts research. Visitors to booth 1204 at re:Invent can sign up for a complimentary cost assessment based on the APM Experts models. The assessment can also be requested through Instana’s website at https://instana.com/cost-assessment.

  • Orkus Exits Stealth, Launches the Orkus Access Governance Platform So Enterprises Can Prevent Unauthorized Access in the Cloud

Customers Such as BSI Financial Are Using Orkus to Automate And Secure Access and Authorization to Infrastructure, Data and Privileged Identities in Cloud Environments

Las Vegas, Nevada, AWS re:Invent, November 26, 2018 – Orkus, Inc., today announced it has formally entered the marketplace with the launch of the Orkus Access Governance Platform. As enterprises move to the cloud, legacy access and authorization methods break down, causing the risk of unauthorized access to infrastructure, data and privileged identities to spike exponentially. The Orkus platform shrinks that risk by enabling enterprises to implement automated, continuous access governance for cloud across infrastructure, data and privileged identities.

“The Orkus Platform enables us to prevent unauthorized access, eliminate the exposure caused by overly permissive and unnecessary access, and continuously protect our data in AWS,” said Gagan Sharma, CEO, BSI Financial. “Bottom line, Orkus has helped us to mature, optimize and automate our cloud access governance – an accomplishment we view as a strategic and operational win for the business.”

“Throughout my entire career as a CISO I’ve seen security teams struggle with access management, and not for lack of trying,” said Robert Bigman CEO of 2BSecure and former CISO for the CIA. “The Orkus platform delivers automation to an area of security in grave need of it, empowering IT teams to secure  access to their data, apps and infrastructure. Orkus’s graph-based approach provides a quantum leap forward in managing access and authorization enterprise-wide.”

Introducing the Orkus Access Governance Platform

The Orkus Access Governance Platform was developed to prevent unauthorized access in cloud caused by weak or ineffective access and authorization controls, operator error, and insider threats.  These scenarios, named as the top threats to cloud security in a recent Cybersecurity Insider report, occur regularly across cloud platforms. By enabling organizations to implement continuous governance of access and authorization for sensitive data, critical infrastructure and privileged identities, Orkus enables organizations to adopt cloud platforms while ensuring security and compliance. It consists of four main components:

Orkus Access Graph: Orkus simplifies access governance by building a real-time graph that captures all access relationships between data, infrastructure and identities that exist within an organization’s dynamic cloud infrastructure. The Orkus access graph can scale to millions of cloud objects, keep pace with rapid change and provide continuous visibility into and analytics for access and authorization.

Orkus Graph AI: Orkus uses Graph AI to learn “who” has access to “what” and “how” the access is being used. By applying machine learning on the access graph, Orkus understands access intent and usage across infrastructure, data and identities in your cloud infrastructure. Orkus Graph AI detects risks such as unused or stale privileged access, data exposure and insider threats.

Orkus Access Guardrails: Access Guardrails provide a simple and powerful method of automating access governance in cloud. Using guardrails, security and compliance teams can specify access control intent without worrying about managing hundreds of low-level access and authorization policies. Orkus automatically creates Guardrails to secure access to sensitive data and critical infrastructure and maintain compliance with mandates such as PCI, HIPAA and GDPR.

Orkus Access Intelligence: The Orkus Access Intelligence provides the ability to search, investigate and audit access and authorization, both currently and historically – across the cloud infrastructure.

More on the Orkus Access Governance Platform can be found at http://www.orkus.com/platform

“Enterprises are rapidly adopting cloud infrastructure for digital transformation initiatives, however one of the key risks holding them back is unauthorized access, because legacy methods of controlling access are not working,” said Manish Kalia, Co-founder and CEO of Orkus. “Orkus provides continuous and comprehensive access governance covering all three areas – data, infrastructure and privileged identities. True to its name, the Orkus Access Governance Platform makes strong access governance achievable and sustainable in cloud settings.”

Orkus will be commemorating its launch at several events in Las Vegas.  A Bronze sponsor of AWS re:Invent, Orkus is formally launching at the show and encourages attendees to stop by its booth, 3038.  The following week, Orkus will be participating in the Gartner IAM Summit as a Silver sponsor, exhibiting at Booth 618.

    About Orkus

Founded in 2017 by cloud and cybersecurity experts, Orkus has solved the most critical, hard-to-manage risk vector that enterprises face today in hybrid cloud computing – securing access to data, applications, and infrastructure. The Orkus Access Governance platform enables companies to prevent data exposure, tighten privileged identity access and protect critical infrastructure and applications from unauthorized access. Orkus is privately funded and based in San Jose, CA. For more information visit https://www.orkus.com.

  • Logz.io Launches Metrics Application, Unveiling the Only Unified Solution for Monitoring, Troubleshooting, and Security built on ELK and Grafana

Logz.io Will Showcase Grafana-based app at AWS re:Invent

BOSTON and TEL AVIV, Israel, Nov. 26, 2018 — Logz.io, an intelligent and scalable machine data analytics platform, is expanding their core platform capabilities to include Grafana, the most popular open source tool for analyzing metrics and time-series data. Through adding this metrics capability, Logz.io is enabling engineers to work cross-functionally, breaking down siloed tasks and responsibilities, becoming the only open source-based solution to consolidate monitoring, troubleshooting, and security into a unified platform. These new capabilities will be showcased for the first time at AWS re:Invent 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

By offering these capabilities, the company aims to empower engineers to focus more time on ensuring availability, performance, and security of applications rather than installing and maintaining DIY monitoring systems with limited performance and scalability.

“Performance issues, service outages, and security breaches can cost millions and severely damage customer trust. Yet the engineers entrusted to manage these functions lack an easy, scalable option and are frustrated by the limitations and complexities of current open source monitoring and troubleshooting systems,” says Logz.io CEO, Tomer Levy. “By providing engineers with the open source monitoring systems they love along with the scalability they need, we enable engineers to be more effective and efficient in their day-to-day activities while empowering them to spend more time improving their products and increasing innovation.”

Today, with applications increasingly distributed across microservices, containers, and cloud environments, engineers are experiencing unprecedented complexity in operating these environments. As a result, valuable resources are spent deploying, running and maintaining these systems instead of driving innovation within the organization. Logz.io aims to change all of this by providing an easy-to-use, fully scalable and intelligent open source-based platform.

Key benefits of Logz.io’s Time Series Application include:

    • ELK and Grafana, at scale – Get ELK and Grafana as a service in the cloud. Scalability, availability, and security assured.
    • Easy – Use a unified solution for monitoring, troubleshooting, and security with easy setup and built-in integrations with any data source. No maintenance required.
    • Intelligent – Leverage state-of-the-art AI/machine learning and crowdsourcing to identify and resolve critical errors and threats in real time before they impact your business.
    • Modern – Works with your technology stack featuring out-of-the-box integrations with cloud, Kubernetes, containers, incident management platforms, and more.
    • End-to-end service – Logz.io takes care of the entire data ingestion pipeline and offers 24/7 chat support as well as an online training academy.
    • Secure – Compliant with: PCI-1, SOC-2 Type 2, HIPAA, GDPR and ISO-27001.

To learn more about Logz.io’s Time Series Analytics, visit booth 1938 at AWS re:Invent for more information.

    About Logz.io

Logz.io provides an intelligent and scalable machine data analytics platform built on ELK and Grafana. Designed for monitoring modern applications, Logz.io combines cloud-native simplicity and scalability with crowdsourced artificial intelligence to help engineers identify critical issues before they occur and empower them to monitor, troubleshoot and secure mission-critical applications using one unified platform.

Cloud cost optimization leader adds new method to address cloud waste to improve cloud users’ efficiency

November 21, 2018 (Dulles, VA) – ParkMyCloud, provider of the leading enterprise platform for continuous cost control in public cloud, announced today that its cost optimization platform has now expanded to provide “rightsizing”. Rightsizing is a way to reduce wasted cloud spend by resizing cloud resources, and can provide significant savings: just by moving a virtual machine down one size tier, 50% or more  — and resources are often so overprovisioned that multiple size transitions are possible, raising that savings to 75% or more.

This joins ParkMyCloud’s “parking” functionality, which automatically schedules non-production cloud resources, such as those used for development, testing, staging, and QA, to turn off when they’re not needed. With a typical schedule that parks a resource for 12 hours each night and on weekends, users can save 65% of the cost of their resources. Combined with rightsizing, this means that an average cloud user is poised to reduce overall costs in their cloud environment from 50-80% or more.

This release marks the first step to a fully automated instance “SmartSizing”, which ParkMyCloud will release in January 2019. SmartSizing will take rightsizing a step further by actually automating size corrections, requiring little management on the part of the user.

“With each release of the ParkMyCloud platform, we’re delivering customers another piece of the puzzle they need to fully automate multi-cloud cost optimization,” said Bill Supernor, ParkMyCloud’s Chief Technology Officer. “We developed rightsizing in close contact with customers based on their needs, and initial feedback has been positive.”

ParkMyCloud will demo the new functionality at AWS re:Invent, November 26th through November 29th, and invites attendees to visit the company in the expo hall at  booth #1709.
