  • Study Identifies Microsoft Teams Data as Source of Compliance Concern Among IT Leaders

Milpitas, CA, May 20, 2021 — ZL Tech, the premier technology provider for information governance and compliance, has announced the results of a study investigating Microsoft Team’s native arching and third-party compliance systems capabilities. Conducted by Osterman Research, the study surveyed 143 IT leaders at mid- and large-scale enterprises, all of whom are currently using Microsoft Teams.

Due in large part to the global pandemic that mandated virtual collaboration, Microsoft Teams adoption has skyrocketed in recent years, with over 145 million daily users in April 2021. However, this decision was often made without fully considering how usage would affect legal and regulatory compliance. The survey found that when considering whether to incorporate Microsoft Teams, compliance and legal professionals were two of the three least influential decision-makers.

When asked whether Microsoft Team’s native archiving capabilities were sufficient to meet their compliance requirements, only 54% of respondents fully agreed. Some leading concerns are Microsoft Teams’ inability to capture source files and documents (48%), quotes (36%), and audio in meetings (35%) and calls (35%). Looking to the future, only 40% of respondents think Microsoft Teams’ native archiving tools will meet their various requirements in the next three years.

Regardless of whether the respondents’ Microsoft Teams archiving capabilities were sufficient for their needs, Microsoft Teams data has already been required in the last year for eDiscovery (49%), internal investigations (49%), and regulatory audits (30%).

Of respondents currently archiving Microsoft Teams, over half (52%) believe that third-party archiving tools are superior to native capabilities. The leading reasons IT leaders considered a third-party solution were to search across multiple platforms in-place (54%), to capture all Microsoft Teams data (53%), and to have a single platform for archiving, eDiscovery, and compliance for multiple data sources (53%).

ZL Tech’s flagship platform, ZL UA, has fully integrated Microsoft Teams into its solutions for compliance, eDiscovery, privacy, and records management. The platform captures all critical components of Microsoft Teams’ communications: messages, files, reactions, and the context surrounding these interactions. This full archival capture allows ZL Tech to apply governance policies, review messages for compliance, and deliver analytics for deeper insight into enterprise communications.

  • Salto Secures $42 Million Series B to Unlock Value across SaaS Applications and Bring Agility to Business Operations

Accel leads latest funding, with significant participation from Salesforce Ventures, to expand Salto’s simplified approach to automate and scale enterprise SaaS

San Francisco, CA and Tel Aviv, Israel — May 19, 2021 — Pioneering business operations (BizOps) startup Salto announced today that it has raised a $42 million Series B led by Accel, with significant participation from existing investor Salesforce Ventures, and continued participation from Bessemer Venture Partners and Lightspeed Venture Partners. That brings the total funding to $69 million to date, following its Series A in October, and underscores the demand for a new way to improve the productivity of SaaS administrators. At the same time, enterprises are calling for a more unified way to configure, analyze, and ensure compliance for their standalone SaaS (software as a service) applications.

Salto was founded in 2019 by veteran Israeli entrepreneurs Rami Tamir, Benny Schnaider and Gil Hoffer, after successes with previous companies: Pentacom (acquired by Cisco); Qumranet (the creator of KVM – acquired by Red Hat); and Ravello Systems (acquired by Oracle).

Today, companies have SaaS applications for every conceivable purpose and each application is maintained and supported separately. This results in an operational challenge of hidden, often irreversible dependencies, changes, and recursive updates between apps. The damage is apparent in many organizations using SaaS applications today—business process breakdowns that bring operations to a halt.

“Over the past few years, we’ve seen enterprises adopt literally hundreds of SaaS applications,” said Salto CEO and co-founder Rami Tamir. “Salto is the connective tissue that has been completely missing and applies widely adopted engineering principles to business operations and SaaS. We provide insights into how all the systems are configured and allow teams to untangle them, track and extend those changes across applications, and enforce a process to make each department’s stack of software operate as a cohesive whole.”

“Salto’s holistic, forward-thinking approach to the management of business apps is the future, and its solution is the connective tissue we were looking for,” said Oran Akron, head of business operations at Monday.com.

Salto’s platform, in essence, offers companies a better return on the dozens of SaaS licenses they already pay for. It also lays the foundation for an, until now, unimaginable level of change management efficiency. Customers are seeing the advantages of immense time savings with improved trackability and auditability.

“Using Salto, we’ve cut Salesforce and HubSpot update times by 75 percent,” acknowledges Joshua Thorngren, vice president of growth at StackPulse. “It really is unlike anything else.”

With the new funding, Salto will rapidly expand its capacity to configure more business applications. Early customers expressed their need for Salto to extend its software approach and methodology beyond its initially supported SaaS applications – Salesforce, NetSuite and HubSpot. Salto plans to expand its support to a total of 10 applications by the end of 2021. With a global view of all SaaS applications, it provides insight long thought impossible.

“Salto is leading the way toward modernizing the infrastructure of cloud applications. This is a much bigger problem than it was a few years ago, and it provides a very necessary layer of automation,” said Philippe Botteri, partner at Accel. “It’s a missing link, a revolution bringing a DevOps approach to cloud application configurations. We’re excited to be partnering with serial entrepreneurs Rami, Benny and Gil for this journey. Salto has the potential to become a defining company for this new and large category, which addresses a significant problem faced by any company managing cloud applications.”

“Salto creates an ecosystem where business application administrators can make changes to applications swiftly and efficiently,” said Alex Kayyal, partner and head of international at Salesforce Ventures. “We’re incredibly excited by the team’s vision to improve business agility through automation across SaaS applications as they provide clear value to customers globally.”

    About Salto

Salto is the leading solution for configuring your top business applications. By applying innovative software development concepts and practices, Salto provides both an open source and an enterprise SaaS product to simplify, automate and unite configuration, testing, analysis, and compliance across business applications. • More than Half of U.S. Companies Hit with Privileged Credential Theft, Insider Threats in Last Year

ThycoticCentrify research shows impressive adoption of Zero Trust principles in response to rising cyberattacks on critical systems and data

Santa Clara, CA and Washington DC, May 19, 2021― ThycoticCentrify, a leading provider of cloud identity security solutions formed by the merger of privileged access management (PAM) leaders Thycotic and Centrify, today announced new research that reveals more than half of organizations have been grappling with the theft of legitimate, privileged credentials (53%) and insider threat attacks (52%) in the last 12 months. In 85% of the privileged credential theft instances, cybercriminals were able to access critical systems and/or data. In addition, two-thirds (66%) of insider threats led to abuse of administrative privileges to illegitimately access critical systems and/or data.

The research, commissioned by ThycoticCentrify with CensusWide, surveyed 150 IT decision makers across the U.S. on the most common privileged access risks and Zero Trust adoption trends. In addition to external and malicious insider threat attacks, the study found that nearly half (48%) of organizations experienced a data breach as a result of giving an employee or contractor too much access in the last year.

Based on these compromise patterns, it is not surprising that 65% of respondent companies saw their IT administrators targeted most frequently by cybercriminals, followed by engineers and developers (21%) and the C-suite (19%).

“IT administrators hold the keys to the most sensitive and mission-critical parts of the kingdom, and both internal and external attackers are taking full advantage,” said David McNeely, chief technology officer at ThycoticCentrify. “Abusing access to these systems can lead to full-scale breaches that grab headlines and impact trust in the organization. While there is no single solution that can eliminate every one of these risk factors, adopting Zero Trust principles is an excellent start.”

Zero Trust mandates a “never trust, always verify, enforce least privilege” approach to cybersecurity, whether the threat is coming from inside or outside the network. Promisingly, nearly all respondents are somewhat familiar (33%) or very familiar (62%) with the term, especially as it relates to identity and access management (IAM).

The survey found an impressive 77% currently utilize a Zero Trust approach in their cybersecurity strategy, possibly attributed to the frequent attacks on IT. In fact, 42% listed reducing cyberthreats as the top motivator for adoption, followed by better compliance (30%), reducing privileged access abuse, and inspecting and logging traffic/access requests (both 14%). Common barriers for adoption include complicated or inadequate security solutions (57%), fear of disrupting user experience (43%), budget (38%), and staffing resources (30%).

“There are many on-ramps to Zero Trust. But with privileged identities playing such a key role in most data breaches, it makes sense to begin that journey with a modern PAM solution built around a least privilege model of access control,” said Tony Goulding, cybersecurity evangelist at ThycoticCentrify.

A large majority of respondents (83%) have incorporated a privileged access management (PAM) tool into their security infrastructure, and 89% of those PAM services support a Zero Trust approach to verify privileged users.
