  • OutSystems Low-Code Platform Adds Two Breakthrough Features to Accelerate Mobile Application Development

Low-Code Platform Leader Adds App Templates and Theme Customizer to Address Major Barriers to Mobile App Development

ATLANTA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–OutSystems, provider of the number one platform for low-code development, today announced two new innovations that solve the biggest challenges with enterprise mobile application development – speed and user experience.

“We’re constantly looking for new ways to empower teams to deliver the solutions their organizations demand – fast”

    Tweet this

The first new feature, called App Templates, forms the building blocks for speed. Each app template includes a combination of beautiful pre-built screens with navigation, business logic, and data structures. App Templates also supports out-of-the-box mobility needs like Touch ID authentication, Google Maps integration, and in-app notifications. With App Templates, IT teams can cut development times by as much as 70 percent.

The second new innovation, called Theme Customizer, helps developers rapidly build beautiful, agency-grade user experiences without extensive design knowledge. With the Theme Customizer, developers can upload an image of a company logo and OutSystems instantly creates the mobile app theme that perfectly matches their style and brand. Developers preview their application in real time with a built-in emulator and tune them automatically to the device they are running on, creating a perfect native look and feel.

Developing enterprise-grade mobile apps has been a major challenge for IT teams. This issue was highlighted in The 2017 State of Application Development Report, where time and skills were identified as the two most critical barriers to mobile development today. The comprehensive report surveyed over 3,200 IT professionals in 40 countries and 28 industries.

The new product release follows another major announcement where OutSystems was named a leader in the 2017 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Mobile App Development Platforms. According to Gartner, Leaders in this Magic Quadrant “must represent a strong combination of Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision. In the MADP sector, this means that Leaders are not only good at cross-platform development, deployment and management across the full life cycle, but also have a good vision of the omnichannel and post-app requirements, support for multiple architectures and standards, a solid understanding of IT requirements, and scalable sales channels and partnerships.”

“We’re constantly looking for new ways to empower teams to deliver the solutions their organizations demand – fast,” said Paulo Rosado, OutSystems CEO. “These new features we announced today deliver on our promise to continue to fuel innovation, improving the low-code development experience and helping IT keep pace with the growing needs of the business.”

“With this release, OutSystems is bringing the ease-of-use and simplicity of templates and themes to enterprise development teams,” said Jason Bloomberg, President of Agile Digital Transformation analyst firm Intellyx. “Especially with mobile apps, customer expectations have raised the bar on functionality, design and performance. With its App Templates and Theme Customizer, OutSystems nails all three.”

  • Sonatype Acquires Vor Security; Introduces Nexus Lifecycle XC

Nexus Open Source Intelligence is extending coverage to include Ruby, PHP, CocoaPods, Swift, Golang, C, and C++ in addition to Java, JavaScript, NuGet, and PyPI

Fulton, MD – June 29, 2017 – Sonatype, a leader in software supply chain automation, today announced that it has acquired Vor Security. Ken Duck, founder and CEO of Vor will join the product and engineering team at Sonatype to continuously expand and refine the open source component intelligence service that underpins the Nexus platform.

As founder and CEO of Vor, Duck created the OSS Index, an innovative and free online index of known open source software vulnerabilities. Today, the index contains more than 2.1 million packages and detailed information on more than 120,000 vulnerabilities across an array of open source ecosystems.

Sonatype also introduced today Nexus Lifecycle XC, a new data service delivered via the Nexus IQ server that will provide organizations with component intelligence covering a wide swath of open source ecosystems and formats including Ruby, PHP, Swift, CocoaPods, Golang, C, and C++.

    Landscape of Open Source Intelligence

Compared to the precisely accurate open source intelligence offered by Nexus Lifecycle for Java, JavaScript, NuGet, and PyPI — traditional vendors of Software Composition Analysis (SCA) tools have long provided commodity open source intelligence across a broad spectrum of ecosystems.

Over time, organizations have come to value the unique accuracy of Nexus Lifecycle data for Java, JavaScript, NuGet, and PyPI; but they still require open source intelligence for a wide variety of other ecosystems.  Beginning today, Sonatype is delivering a win-win intelligence engine that combines the depth of Lifecycle data for machine automated open source controls with the breadth of Lifecycle XC data for foundational open source governance.

    Supporting Quotes

“Empowering software development teams with broad and precise visibility into the open source supply chain is critical to practicing proper application security hygiene. Sonatype’s world-class team has led the way in bringing remarkably accurate component intelligence to the forefront of the DevOps movement, and I am excited to join forces with their amazing team and continue the journey.” — Ken Duck, CEO, Vor Security

“Since its introduction in 2012, Nexus Lifecycle has seen tremendous acceptance in the market because it provides remarkably precise and accurate intelligence with respect to open source components across Java, JavaScript, NuGet, and PyPI. While enterprise customers, especially those practicing DevOps, place a premium value on the accuracy and precision of our Nexus Lifecycle data, they also need intelligence for a wide variety of other formats and ecosystems. The combination of Lifecycle and Lifecycle XC gives customers the best of both worlds — a premium intelligence service that fully automates enforcement of open source policies inside of a DevOps pipeline, plus a stock data intelligence service to inform basic hygiene for all other ecosystems.” — Wayne Jackson, CEO, Sonatype

  • Demisto Introduces Industry’s First Machine Learning Incident Response Platform that Gets Smarter with Every Analyst Action

Demisto Enterprise Learns from Dynamic Customer Environments and Analyst Actions to Optimize Incident Response and Help Train the Next Wave of Security Analysts

CUPERTINO, Calif. — 8amEST June 28, 2017 — Demisto, Inc., an innovator in Security Automation and Orchestration technology, today introduced the industry’s first Security Operations Platform that learns from analysts’ actions used to resolve incidents to optimize future incident response. The new machine learning-based technology, called “Demisto Insights” and available in the latest version of Demisto Enterprise, helps analysts during an investigation by suggesting the best methods to resolve an incident. Such machine learning technology marks the first time in the security industry when a solution learns from experts rather than relying only on past historical security data.

The security industry faces a significant shortage of skilled incident response (IR) analysts. While automation is being used to help analysts reduce manual work, organizations need to be able to learn from experienced analysts’ actions to help educate and train younger analysts to solve problems faster. With this new release, Demisto offers the industry’s most comprehensive Security Operations Platform with pre-built automation playbooks, more than one hundred integrations, incident case management, threat feed aggregation and correlation with incidents, and now machine learning that improves the analysts’ productivity.

“Like Cylance, Demisto is applying machine learning and automation to today’s overly complex incident response process,” said Steve Mancini, senior director of information security at Cylance. “The Demisto platform is redefining how my team approaches internal investigations through the use of machine learning, collaboration and historical threat feed correlation to save time, ensure consistency, and reduce risk.”

“Demisto Insights” collects key findings from analysts as they resolve incidents. Using unique machine learning technology it also suggests the best team members to handle the incident, and best next steps to resolve the incident that will continually enhance playbooks. This type of machine learning is unique in the industry because the Demisto platform learns from analysts’ and SOC managers’ actions which are high fidelity signals rather than static security product data. This model enables accurate results for each customer as Demisto learns the unique customer environment rather than generic security data.

“Demisto was already leading the industry in helping organizations with significant cost and security risk reduction during the incident management life cycle by leveraging our unique automation and collaboration features,” said Dan Sarel, Demisto co-founder and VP Products. “With these new enhancements, we now extend the value delivered by the platform to make it even easier and faster for analysts to respond to incidents. The platform significantly reduces adoption time and time to value with our new machine learning capabilities and updated graphical interface.”

The latest release of Demisto Enterprise enhances the playbook authoring interface and also provides a live runtime review of the playbook execution. In addition, a new language called “Demisto Transform” has been introduced which helps IR analysts build complex playbooks for automation much faster and without writing any code. All these capabilities enhance the experience of security analysts by making it even easier to build automations and to review the results of the investigation. The platform highlights the findings in a single, improved view to give analysts all the details needed for decision making.

In addition, Demisto’s new release offers numerous product integrations as well as 50 additional enhancements. For example, Demisto’s new and improved incidents page helps SOC managers have a better view of the SOC status and allows them to more easily manage their teams. Also, the new incident summary page delivers a quick view of the main findings in each incident, helping managers get a quick view of the ongoing events and helping analysts who join an investigation get quickly oriented. For a complete list of Demisto’s new integrations and release enhancements, see https://www.demisto.com/product/ .

    Pricing and Availability
Demisto’s new Enterprise Security Operations Platform is generally available today, with annual pricing starting at $100,000 for up to two analysts. A fully multi-tenant Demisto solution for MSSP that provides SOC-as-a-Service is also available from Demisto. For more information, see https://www.demisto.com/product/ .

     About Demisto
Demisto Enterprise is the first and only comprehensive Security Operations Platform to combine security orchestration, incident management, machine learning from analyst activities, and interactive investigation. Demisto’s orchestration engine automates security product tasks and weaves in the human analyst tasks and workflows. Demisto enables security teams to reduce mean time to resolution (MTTR), create consistent incident management process, and increase analyst productivity. Demisto is backed by Accel and other prominent investors and has offices in Silicon Valley and Tel Aviv. For more information, visit www.demisto.com or email info@demisto.com.

  • BMC Empowers the Future of Work with BMC Digital Workplace

Cloud-based solution puts employees at the center of anytime, anywhere, any device experience

HOUSTON — June 28, 2017 — BMC, a global leader in IT solutions for the digital enterprise, today introduced BMC Digital Workplace, a cloud-based service that redefines the future of work by transforming the digital workplace experience with employees at the center.

With automation and artificial intelligence becoming an increasingly important enabler of digital business, many employees are fearful about what that means for their careers and future as part of a human workforce. According to a 2017 study by BMC and Opinion Life, 40 percent of global workers fear that they won’t be able to keep up with the rate of change required by digital business. Furthermore, 88 percent of those surveyed place the responsibility for creating innovative cultures on their employers.

Responsive leaders recognize this imperative for change and plan for the future of work by evolving how services are delivered, with a people-centric approach that encourages and empowers employees to learn new digital skills. BMC Digital Workplace transforms the corporate culture to revolve around employees’ needs and gives them the tools and services needed to be successful in an era defined by disruption and change. The Brookings Institution predicts that millennials will comprise 75 percent of the workforce by 2025. To meet that influx of digital natives and their workplace expectations, organizations must adapt to create more open, collaborative, and purposeful human environments that enable employees to have the same consumer-oriented experience at work that they enjoy in their personal lives.

“The future of work will be built on transformative digital workplaces that engage and empower employees by placing them at the center of an increasingly-cognitive enterprise,” said Nayaki Nayyar, President, Digital Service Management at BMC. “Companies that fail to prepare for a business landscape where artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, and automation redefine how we work will have difficulty attracting and retaining skilled workforces. Our BMC Digital Workplace solution increases the ability to deliver on those criteria by providing key digital workplace capabilities in the cloud or on-premise, all available via a single pane of glass that transforms the way we work.”

Available both in the cloud and on-premise, BMC Digital Workplace enables IT, HR, Legal, facility management, and any other line-of-business groups to offer employees one-stop-shopping for the tools and information they need to do their work effortlessly. Combining native mobile apps and context and location-aware services, workers can find answers, request services, and ask for help with the ease.

“Creating a successful digital workplace requires not thinking about a workplace at all, but rather how employees have access to the information, apps, and services they need without being dependent on someone else,” said Tyler Lowe, Vice President, Senior Service Delivery Manager, Bank of America. “Our digital workplace strategy empowers an employee experience designed to enable more efficiency, productivity, and self-sufficiency so employees can focus on what matters most: delivering great customer service.”

BMC Digital Workplace also provides cost-benefits to the organization by reducing service desk call volume by as much as 67 percent with self-service IT. That frees up support teams to spend more time focused on business-critical issues and strategic initiatives. In August 2016, BMC received the highest Vendor Product Scores for the Basic Digital Workplace ITSSM Use Case (3.76/5) and Advanced Digital Workplace ITSSM Use Case (3.88/5) from Gartner in its report, “Critical Capabilities for IT Service Support Management Tools, 2016.”[1]

  • Datical Continues to Simplify the Application Release Process, Delivering Deployment Monitoring Console to Further Expand DevOps to the Database

Datical DMC Lets Users Automatically Track, Audit and Resolve Database Deployment Issues

AUSTIN, Texas – June 27, 2017 – Datical, the leading provider of database release automation solutions, today announced Datical Deployment Monitoring Console (DMC), a new capability to the Datical DB platform that automatically monitors the status of every database deployment across the enterprise.

Datical DMC provides teams with unprecedented visibility into the outcomes of all database deployments, detailing the scope of changes applied and pinpointing the causes of failures – a process that can typically take days or weeks to complete. All levels of the organization – from DBAs to application developers and QA to IT management – can easily audit the database, measure release velocity and monitor deployments.

“One of the primary obstacles to accelerating release velocity is the lack of visibility into database status. Determining what was changed in an environment or the root cause of application deployment errors related to the database is like trying to find a needle in a haystack,” said Pete Pickerill, co-founder and VP of product strategy at Datical. “With Datical Deployment Monitoring Console, customers are able to immediately discover the information they need without spending hours or days investigating or troubleshooting. No other solution can compare to what we’re offering in terms of automating and accelerating the database release process.”

Datical DMC provides a single point of access to an organization’s database deployment activity. The data is presented in many different ways to meet the needs of the wide variety of roles that make up a modern IT organization. Datical DMC delivers relevant and accurate information to all stakeholders on demand, whether they need to know what’s been deployed to a database, why a specific operation failed, or how quickly changes are moving through the release cycle.

The end result is faster moving, application development teams that spend less time in firefighting mode and more time innovating and building the next great set of applications and features to ensure revenue growth and increased customer acquisition.

“Keeping up with the pace of innovation today requires automation at every level of the enterprise. That’s especially true at the foundation: the database. Datical helps companies achieve velocity as they change to meet market demands, by automating critical database updates, and thus pulling out the stops to digital transformation,” said Eric Kavanagh, CEO of The Bloor Group.

The Datical team has been pioneering database and application deployment evolution for more than a decade. Datical strategically guides some of the world’s most admired companies through their database deployment modernization efforts. The Datical database release automation solution is designed to break the application release logjam created by today’s manual database deployment processes. Datical improves productivity and performance, allowing development, test and DBA staff to focus on more important projects and initiatives.

  • Elastic Beam Exits Stealth Mode, unveils API Behavioral Security, the First Solution Purpose Built for Detecting and Blocking Cyber Attacks Targeting API Infrastructures

Elastic Beam’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) – powered solution focuses on an oft-overlooked threat vector – API Infrastructures; it stops attacks and provides full visibility into API activity across all data and systems, including mobile, IoT, and hybrid clouds.

Redwood City, California, June 21st, 2017: Elastic Beam today announced the unveiling of its flagship solution, API Behavioral Security (ABS). ABS is the first AI-powered software platform able to detect and block cyberattacks that target APIs to compromise corporate data and systems – in public clouds, hybrid clouds, or on premise. ABS requires no predefined policies, security rules, or attack signatures, and can stop attacks that are new and constantly changing. Its comprehensive API activity reporting simplifies forensic analysis and facilitates meeting compliance requirements.

APIs bring great economic benefits but also represent a major security risk for all organizations as they make it easier for hackers to reach into their line-of-business applications, systems and databases.

“API security vulnerabilities have been publicized… Because APIs make digital business work, securing them is essential to managing this digital risk,” notes Gartner, Inc. in Top 10 Things CIOs Need to Know About APIs and the API Economy, Paolo Malinverno et al, 25 January 2017.

Elastic Beam combines advanced AI techniques with strong API behavior expertise to identify and stop cyberattacks that use APIs to gain control of systems and data. Its solution overlays on existing API infrastructures to protect API Gateways, API Management platforms, and APIs implemented directly on application servers.

“Analyzing the behavior of all types of API threats and proactively responding, while also adding to your real time awareness of what threatens your API infrastructure is the next step in the evolution and maturing of the API economy,” said Kin Lane, the API Evangelist. “This is what Elastic Beam is working to do.”

According to a Coleman Parkes Research Ltd. Survey, 88% of enterprises are using APIs in their business. In fact, deployments of APIs in Clouds, Enterprises, and IoT environments are greatly accelerating. Attackers do represent a major risk as they defeat access control and other foundational API security services. Once a hacker is in, the average time to detect a breach is over three months.

“Relying on just access control security to stop hackers from using your APIs to attack your digital assets is like using a locked door without a surveillance system and security personnel to protect your physical assets. By the time you discover the intrusion, it’s too late and you don’t know what rooms were entered or what was done,” said Bernard Harguindeguy, CEO of Elastic Beam. “Customers love our vendor agnostic cybersecurity solution which reduces operational costs by automatically blocking API-based intrusions and providing deep insight into everything done with their APIs.”

“Until Elastic Beam we had no way to stop cyberattacks on APIs without a large group of security engineers manually watching the API infrastructure,” said Chuck Reynolds, CTO of TSI, a systems integrator for commercial and government customers. “Elastic Beam system is the automated, actionable AI solution that our customers have been asking for.”

Patent-pending API Behavioral Security provides comprehensive threat protection across a range of attacks: from hackers without credentials probing for vulnerabilities to attacks on data and systems – including data theft or destruction, API-specific DDoS attacks, complete host takeover, attacks on authentication systems, etc.

Elastic Beam API Behavioral Security reporting provides extensive information on an attacker’s progression through the API services to deliver insight into actions and potential compromises, including which systems were touched and which were not. It also provides a wealth of information for compliance and audit reports – including reporting every command or method used on any API by anyone for any time period.

Elastic Beam API Behavioral Security brings cybersecurity protection to any API infrastructure:

 Blocks advanced cyberattacks that use APIs to compromise data or gain control – with no predefined rules or attack signatures – unlike today’s analytical tools with no API awareness

 Prevents hackers from reconnecting after termination – when attackers are identified, enforcement nodes automatically block access across all sites, even across hybrid clouds

 Reports on all API activity at scale – for forensic or compliance reporting, all actions on all APIs, including every method/command used, are captured and consolidated for easy access

 API deception to trap hackers – Decoy APIs function as traps for hackers and capture attack information for analysis and reporting.

Without changing existing application servers, Elastic Beam API Behavioral Security can be deployed inline or out-of-band to provide seamless integration with any API infrastructure. Supporting multiple protocol environments such as REST, WebSocket, SOAP, and MQTT traffic, ABS delivers security for current and emerging application workloads. Installations can span private and public clouds with flexible support for bare metal, virtualized, and container environments. Offered as a subscription service.

About Elastic Beam Founded in 2014, Elastic Beam is headquartered in Redwood City, CA (Silicon Valley). The company delivers AI-powered security for the API-driven economy. Elastic Beam’s flagship solution, API Behavioral Security, was built by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs with a history of success in the Cloud infrastructure, API Gateway, and security space. • Electric Cloud Simplifies Application Onboarding and Takes the Rocket Science Out of Continuous Delivery

Shared Catalog of Vetted Automation, Application Onboarding Options, and Release/Deploy Dashboards Usher in the “Consumerization of Continuous Delivery (CD)” for DevOps Teams

SAN JOSE, Calif. – O’Reilly Velocity (BOOTH #707) – June 19, 2017 – Electric Cloud (http://electric-cloud.com), the leader in DevOps Release Automation and Continuous Delivery, today announced a new version of ElectricFlow that provides a new, programmatic way for Developers to onboard applications, simplifies the way deployments are run for Operations teams, and provides visibility into deployments and releases across any DevOps toolchain (http://electric-cloud.com/products/electricflow/).

For a demo of ElectricFlow, visit Electric Cloud’s booth (#707) at O’Reilly Velocity Conference!

“A few years ago, the ‘Consumerization of IT’ boosted job satisfaction and organizational productivity by inviting employees to ‘Bring Your Own’ Devices into the workplace,” said Steve Brodie, CEO of Electric Cloud. “Today, ElectricFlow enables the ‘Consumerization of CD’, by allowing organizations and teams to ‘Bring Your Own’ processes, patterns, practices, tools and other technology into a secure and well managed DevOps toolchain. Our aim is to make it easy for both Dev and Ops practitioners to ship software in a way that ‘works best for them.’”

To help Development and Operations teams who are looking to automate and coordinate software deployment and release, ElectricFlow now includes:

    • Customizable Self-Service Catalog with out-of-box templates for pipelines, applications, and environments to accelerate time to value and facilitate object re-use
    • An easy way for Developers to define applications, environments and dependencies as code to ensure consistent, predictable downstream results
    • Release and Deploy Analytics Dashboards to enhance visibility into the status and health of releases and pipelines

    Self-Service Simplicity and Bulletproof Deployments

A new Self-Service Catalog in ElectricFlow offers on-demand templates for common stacks/environments, pipelines, patterns, applications, and common DevOps processes. Teams can then customize or add to this catalog to create a shared repository of approved, reusable automation.

This self-service, centralized and scalable solution gives Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) teams a way to empower developers with the tools they need to move fast, while maintaining consistency, governance and compliance. This allows organizations to balance team ownership and flexibility with standardization and control, which provides manageability, system-level visibility and lower operational costs.

Coupled with push-button access to advanced features such as Container and Microservices Orchestration, Automated Rollback and Rolling Deployments, ElectricFlow takes the ‘rocket science’ out of Continuous Delivery, and provides I&O teams a safe way to keep up with the demands of the business by making software deployments and releases a boring, routine affair.

Treat Your “Process as Code,” and your “Pipeline as a Product”

DevOps is all about eliminating silos. ElectricFlow is the industry’s only DevOps Release Automation solution to span the entire Continuous Delivery process – from code check-in to production release – with a single, unified platform. It provides the entire organization a central point of governance, collaboration and visibility to eliminate the gaps that can introduce friction and errors in the end-to-end process.

The unified platform allows users to interact with and manage all DevOps processes and platform features in a way that works best for them – either as code, or via the product’s GUI. This enables teams to “treat their pipelines like a product,” to continuously improve application delivery and decrease the cost and risk of deployments.

In addition to application onboarding options like GUI and DSL, ElectricFlow now allows Developers to automate the generation of application, environment and pipeline models directly from common CI tools. Using a simple JSON manifest file, developers can “shift-left” application definition as part of the Build stage. This ensures consistency of the deployment package when used by downstream teams.

Visibility and Control for Dev, Ops and the Business

In addition to faster onboarding and improved self-service, new ElectricFlow Release and Deploy Dashboards provide users with detailed reporting about the health of their commit, deployment and release pipelines. This secure, role-based and in-depth view can be filtered by time, project or other characteristics to give teams the fast feedback they need to spot trends and visualize application deployment and release lead times, successes/failures, frequency, throughput and duration.

“By taking the manual effort, guess-work and anxiety out of software delivery, AdvancedMD will be able to innovate more quickly, which gives us an advantage in this fast-moving, regulated market,” said John Esser, senior director of data center operations and SaaS at AdvancedMD. “ElectricFlow provides a secure, unified platform for cross-team collaboration and visibility on deployments and releases that won’t force us to sacrifice compliance for velocity.”
