  • Loom Systems Announces New Advances to its AI Powered Log Monitoring Platform

AIOps Software Now Monitors OpenStack, Provides a Holistic View of the IT Stack and Traces Entities

San Francisco, July 27, 2017 – Loom Systems, a leading provider of AI-powered log analysis software platform, today announced a series of significant platform releases to its AIOps monitoring software. Loom’s AIOps platform automates the skill-intensive tasks associated with preparing data for analysis while simplifying implementation and speeding time to value.

Loom’s AIOps platform provides real-time analysis of the entire IT production environment, detecting and addressing issues simultaneously. Utilizing different algorithms, the Loom platform analyzes data, performance and activity at once and gives IT operations continuous insight.

Loom notifies IT and DevOps teams of meaningful issues in your environment with the full context needed for troubleshooting, including the actual root-cause of the issue and recommended resolutions from loom’s proprietary knowledge base (TriKB™).

“IT operations data can be noisy and confusing, even normal behavior can look really anomalous,” said Gabby Menachem, founder and CEO, Loom Systems. “When an IT organization looks at metrics, they are viewed in different time spans, from a periodic view so you know that signal, through anomalous, would be something a human would find interesting. That’s a statistical way to do that. By mathematically modeling how humans analyze digital information, Loom combines analytical skills with computational speed to simulate and enhance the entire data analysis cycle. We suppress 95 percent of the noise.”

    OpenStack Monitoring
While OpenStack allows organizations to instantly deploy virtual machines (VMs) and other resources in the management of their cloud environment, it is still a complex and evolving system that continuously generates vast amounts of metrics and log data. Digital businesses have struggled with accessing all of their data, making monitoring both a major obstacle and a critical piece of their OpenStack setup.

Loom automates OpenStack log monitoring – using AI to analyze logs in real-time to detect and correlate anomalies across the entire OpenStack environment. Loom finds issues before they affect the business, and radically simplifies the root-cause analysis process.

    Dashboard
The Loom data feed is suited for analyzing the incidents and alerts located and provides a holistic view of the IT stack.

The dashboard presents the general health score of applications, based on the number and the severity of the incidents in services, data flow and other metrics, and gives a summarized view of open incidents, error rate and the general flow of data into the Loom platform. This view helps build a more comprehensive picture of all activity within the application and helps IT teams focus on what’s most interesting and critical.

    Entity Tracing
In many cases, when faced with an alert from one service or application, a human will be analyzing the incident by tracing the behavior of a specific entity throughout the chain of dependent applications. By doing so, he or she can identify the exact request and/or moment where things started to go wrong, focus attention on this particular part of the application and expose the root cause of the incident.

Loom automates this process using machine learning. Once an incident has been created, Loom will apply its algorithms to extract the meaningful entities in the incident. After doing that, Loom will search across the stack for those “prime suspects” (entities such as a User, a Path, an IP or a Host) that were identified as part of the incident and can be found in different services or applications.

    New Correlation View
A correlation is an incident composed of multiple alerts from different services and/or applications across the IT stack that Loom is able to deem related. Loom uses the metadata of the alerts to correlate incidents based on their mutual entities and presents findings. The new correlation view clearly presents the entities Loom used to establish the correlation, helping companies understand the nature of the incident while signaling out cross applicative incidents.

    About Loom Systems
Founded in 2015, Loom Systems delivers an advanced AI solution to predict and prevent problems in the digital business. Loom stands alone in the industry as an AI analysis platform requiring no prior math knowledge from operators, leveraging the existing staff to succeed in the digital era.  With offices in San Francisco and Tel Aviv, Loom Systems works with customers across industries. • GigaSpaces Plans Spinoff of Cloudify Division to Focus on Enterprise Hybrid Cloud Management and Network Orchestration

Move will allow GigaSpaces to focus on in-memory computing while Cloudify concentrates on orchestration and cloud management

NEW YORK, July 27, 2017 — GigaSpaces Technologies announced today that it will spin off Cloudify, its orchestration and cloud management platform business unit, into a new company focused on the fast-growing market for management and orchestration of cloud applications and network functions virtualization (NFV).

Planning for the move began in 2016, driven by strong growth of the Cloudify product line in core enterprise cloud markets, as well as success in entering the carrier network orchestration market. It allows the new Cloudify entity to dedicate engineering, product development, marketing and customer support activities to the cloud market segment. GigaSpaces, with its long-standing track record in the in-memory computing market, will continue to capitalize on its technology investments and innovation in its XAP and InsightEdge product lines.

In 2016, GigaSpaces open sourced all products and shifted to an open source support business model. The GigaSpaces IMC business unit launched InsightEdge, which leverages the Apache Spark cluster computing project, while Cloudify launched Apache Project ARIA, a simple, open source orchestration library to accelerate TOSCA adoption. Both are part of the company’s strategy to leverage open source software, which has emerged as the preferred means for both enterprises and service providers to implement technology rather than proprietary commercial off-the-shelf software.

The new company will retain the core Cloudify engineering, product and marketing teams, working from existing offices in New York City; San Jose, California; and Tel Aviv, Israel.

“It was always our plan to eventually spin off Cloudify,” said Nati Shalom, CTO at Cloudify. “Based on the impressive growth of the open-source Cloudify project, and increased market penetration of the commercially supported Cloudify product, it has become clear that now is the time to do so. This strategic move gives us the freedom to accelerate engineering development in both product lines.”

“Success has led us here,” noted Zeev Bikowsky, CEO of GigaSpaces. “Recent growth in both product lines is a testament to the exceptional work of our employees and the ideal timing of our offerings in two very different markets. This spinoff will not only benefit our customers, employees, partners and the Cloudify open source community, but will also enable greater clarity and focus for our current and possibly future investors.”

While the XAP/InsightEdge and Cloudify businesses are already functioning as separate business units, the structural spinoff is still subject to various regulatory, tax and other approvals.

Opportunity Emerges With Enterprise Hybrid Cloud and NFV Maturity

The Cloudify project was launched in its current form in 2014 as an open source TOSCA orchestration platform, uniquely positioning Cloudify to emerge as the enabling technology for connecting hybrid clouds and the networking layer. This convergence of technology and opportunity positions Cloudify as a leading orchestrator capable of providing end-to-end orchestration of both networks and applications in multi-cloud environments. Cloudify has demonstrated YoY growth of 100 percent, while signing numerous deals with tier-1 enterprises and telcos in the first half of 2017. Read more about Cloudify’s momentum in Shalom’s blog post atcloudify.co/2017/07/24/cloudify-momentum-accelerates-exceeding-second-quarter-projections.html.

Cloudify has built-in support for private clouds such as OpenStack and VMware, public clouds like Amazon Web Services, Azure and Google Compute Platform, and container technologies such as Kubernetes. The platform is also used increasingly by large telecoms and carriers to manage network functions virtualization (NFV).

  • Tricentis Acquires Flood IO, Scaling Open Source On-Demand Load Testing for DevOps

Tricentis extends leadership in software test automation by adding load testing to its Continuous Testing platform

Mountain View, CA – July 27, 2017 – Tricentis, leader in Continuous Testing and software test automation, announced today that they have acquired Flood IO: the industry’s most flexible and scalable on-demand load testing solution. Flood’s breakthrough technology frees load testing from resource-intensive performance labs and “shifts it left” with a simplified and highly-scalable approach. Together, Tricentis and Flood are transforming load testing for today’s lean, fast-paced delivery pipelines.

Transforming Load Testing for DevOps and Agile

Flood lets DevOps teams test how their applications scale with massive load generated from around the world.  Test plans can be defined in open source tools such as JMeter, Gatling, and Selenium, or specified directly in the Flood interface.  Over 5,000 companies globally already use Flood, including DirecTV, Bloomberg, Heroku, Red Hat, NEC, ABC, Paperless Post, AT&T, Riot Games, and Telus.

Tricentis is recognized for transforming traditional testing to meet the needs of Agile and DevOps processes. This acquisition broadens that mission to embrace load and performance testing—enabling teams to “shift left” load testing and integrate Continuous Load Testing into their delivery pipelines.

“Times have changed. Old performance testing approaches are too late, too heavy, and too slow for today’s lean, fast-paced delivery pipelines,” explained Sandeep Johri, CEO of Tricentis. “Yet, releasing updates without insight into their performance impact is incredibly dangerous in today’s world—with competitors just a click away. Flood’s technology offers DevOps teams unparalleled flexibility for load testing early and continuously. This acquisition enables us to take our mission of ‘transforming testing for DevOps’ to the next level.”

Andrew Midgley, Software Testing Lead at REA, described how Flood helped REA break free from legacy performance testing approaches: “We previously had very specialized tools for load and performance testing that were quite expensive. They were very richly featured—but completely disconnected from our everyday development tools. We ended up with a couple of engineers who were quite good at load and performance testing with our enterprise tools, but the majority of engineers found the barriers too great. With Flood, we have moved to an approach which is far more inclusive and utilizes many of the tools our engineers are working with on a daily basis.”

The Flood team has joined Tricentis and will continue driving the Flood technology forward. “At Flood, we set out to build insanely easy-to-use performance testing tools that help teams scale their apps to millions of users,” remarked Tim Koopmans, Flood co-founder. “Joining forces with Tricentis will help us advance our vision for achieving Continuous Load Testing in a DevOps environment. We’re excited about the opportunity to accelerate the path to Continuous Testing—making it faster and easier to ensure that applications meet users’ rising expectations.”

To bring load testing into the fold of Tricentis’ Continuous Testing platform, a fully-integrated offering uses Tricentis’ scriptless test cases for “shift left” load testing. This enables teams to:

    • Start load testing with any Tricentis Tosca cross-browser test case
    • Create smoke tests on the fly with the Tricentis Tosca recorder
    • Integrate load testing into CI for immediate feedback
    • Identify performance problems early—when they’re easiest to fix

Details on the Tricentis-Flood integration, as well as upcoming enterprise load testing offerings, will be unveiled at the Accelerate 2017 conference in Vienna.

The Need for Early and Continuous Load Testing

“Agile delivery cycles rely on continuous quality, including user experience and performance testing across dynamic release cycles (and we are also seeing increased use of open source),” explained Melinda Ballou, Research Director for IDC’s Agile Application Life-Cycle Management (ALM), Quality and Portfolio Strategies program. “Organizations are re-architecting the quality process for accelerated delivery to help enable business adaptability and brand innovation that ultimately impact competitive responsiveness and the bottom line. As part of that process, I am seeing adoption of lightweight, continuous load testing emerging across development teams, from early-stage startups to large enterprises.”

Additionally, The Forrester Wave™: Modern Application Functional Test Automation Tools, Q4 2016* confirms the importance of early load testing as well as the convergence of functional testing and load testing: “Driven by mobile, the internet of things, and the need for speed, dev teams want to use their functional test cases not only for user acceptance testing (UAT) and automated regression testing, but also for testing load performance — and they want do more of it. Performance testing is shifting left, meaning that teams test load performance early and locally so they can fix their designs sooner rather than later.”

  • Packet Launches Edge Compute Service to Power Distributed Workloads

Packet, the leading bare metal cloud for developers, today launched a new Edge Compute service with 11 additional global locations and a dynamic spot-market based pricing feature. The service expands upon Packet’s existing bare metal cloud and is targeted at latency specific workloads and software innovators that require global access to un-opinionated infrastructure without the use of virtualization or multi-tenancy.

New locations include Los Angeles, Seattle, Dallas, Chicago, Ashburn, Atlanta, Toronto, Frankfurt, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Sydney – with Paris, London, Sao Paulo, and Mumbai coming online by October. This expands upon Packet’s existing footprints in New York Metro, Sunnyvale, Amsterdam, and Tokyo.

The new Edge Compute locations feature a single powerful server configuration – a “Type 1E” instance based on an Intel SkyLake processor – as well as Packet’s full networking and infrastructure automation suite. Instances are deployable within minutes via API, standard DevOps tools or the Packet portal, and take advantage of a new spot market feature for demand-driven pricing. Customers can leverage their own IP space, deploy global anycast networks and build custom Layer 2 or SD-WAN networks across Packet’s scalable transit and transport network.

    • Infrastructure for the Internet of Tomorrow

The next wave of internet infrastructure, coupled with low latency, high speed 5G connectivity, will power everything from connected IoT devices to self-driving cars and augmented reality experiences.

While there are a plethora of Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) serving up cached content at the edge, the heavy lifting needed for compute often requires a trip of hundreds or thousands of miles to reach centralized public clouds such as Amazon Web Services or Google’s Cloud Platform. This distance – paired with the inconsistency and abstraction created by multi-tenant virtualization – adds latency and hinders the development of new services and experiences for customers.

“While edge compute is still in its infancy, new experiences are driving demand for distributed infrastructure, especially as software continues its relentless pursuit down the stack,” said Zachary Smith, a co-founder and CEO of Packet. “We believe that the developers building these new experiences are hungry for distributed, unopinionated and yet fully automated compute infrastructure and that’s what we’re bringing to the market today.”

    • Innovating on Physical Hardware

Packet’s combination of dedicated physical hardware, uncongested network, and now 15 global locations provides a unique infrastructure underlay that until now has been accessible only to internet giants or those willing to stitch together an expensive network of colocation facilities and providers.

“What they say in real estate is even more relevant when it comes to network performance: location, location, location,” added Adam Rothschild, SVP of Network at Packet. “But more than just reducing latency, this expansion is about providing developer-style access to dedicated hardware at a global scale.”

The key is Packet’s proprietary technology for automating the lifecycle of infrastructure at the lowest layer, which is achieved without multi-tenancy, virtualization, or other abstractions. This means developers can leverage physical machines in the same way as virtual machines, enabling them to quickly develop new applications that take advantage of advances in hardware and specialty silicon.

Edge Compute locations will feature a new general purpose “Type 1E” configuration with additional locations and systems featuring ARMv8 processors, GPU / FPGA’s and other options to come.

    • Ecosystem & Customer Quotes

“SoftBank believes in a highly-connected future of new experiences and capabilities. Packet’s vision for automating fundamental infrastructure at scale is directly in line with the computing needs that IoT and AI will require.”

Andrew Schwabecher, CTO at SB Cloud

“Packet’s Edge Compute provides a new option for innovators in the IoT sector where developers seek access to low level hardware. Docker has been able to showcase this value through its LinuxKit project which includes an implementation leveraging the Packet API – something that would be of great interest to IoT developers.”

Anil Madhavapeddy, Member of the Technical Staff at Docker

“When we started Algolia almost 5 years ago, we were committed to delivering the fastest search experience possible. This meant we quickly expanded our infrastructure to over 40 colocation facilities around the world and added more over time. Packet’s focus on putting bare metal close to hundreds of millions of people is perfectly aligned with ours and enables us to build a better service, not manage hardware.”

Adam Surak, Direct of Infrastructure at Algolia

“At Hatch, we’re on a mission to reinvent the mobile entertainment industry with instant access to games and a zero-latency multi-player experience. Packet’s distributed network helps us to power a revolutionary experience for our customers and build the future of cloud computing together.”

Juhani Honkala, Founder and CEO at Hatch

“Packet’s edge platform is a breakthrough for us and for our customers. • Details and New Features

The Edge Compute service is available today by request at http://www.packet.net/edge/ and provides users with a powerful dedicated bare metal server configuration in less than 8 minutes. The Type 1E features an Intel E3-1578L v5 processor, Intel IRIS GPU, 32GB RAM, 240GB SSD, and 10 Gbps Network interfaces.

While the “Type 1E” lists at $0.50/hr, they are also available via Packet’s new spot market, which offers marketplace-style pricing for infrastructure in all of Packet’s global 15 locations. Packet’s bare metal spot market functions similarly to the AWS – allowing users to take advantage of dramatically reduced pricing in exchange for revocable status.

For users requiring customized hardware at the edge, Packet is extending its popular “Private Deployment” to all global locations. With Private Deployments, users can deploy custom configurations while benefiting from Packet’s platform and network automation.

As with Packet’s existing bare metal cloud, the new Edge Compute locations feature Packet’s robust API, language-based libraries and a wide list of integrations including Terraform, Ansible, Canonical’s Juju, libCloud, Docker’s LinuxKit and jClouds enable developers to deploy bare metal resources around the globe as easily as a managing resources at AWS or Digital Ocean.

“The Packet platform is designed to automate infrastructure in hundreds or thousands of locations,” noted Nathan Goulding, SVP of Engineering. “Today’s announcement is a major first step in making scalable, non-opinionated infrastructure available to developers on a truly global basis.”

    About Packet
Founded in 2014, Packet’s proprietary technology automates physical servers and networks without the use of virtualization or multi-tenancy to provide on-demand compute and connectivity. Customers can either build on Packet’s public cloud service, deploy customized hardware in Packet’s facilities, or leverage advanced automation software to enable their own private compute infrastructure.

The company is headquartered in New York City and maintains an advanced global IP network between its data center locations in New York Metro (Parsippany, NJ), Sunnyvale (CA), Amsterdam (NL) and Tokyo (JP) and 11 regional Edge Compute locations. Packet is a member of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) where it donates and manages the CNCF Community Infrastructure Lab. Additionally, Packet supports many open source projects, including Memcached.org, NixOS, Docker, and Kernel.org.

  • Checkmarx Acquires Codebashing to Redefine Secure Coding Education

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Checkmarx, a global leader in application security testing solutions, today announced its acquisition of Codebashing, a leading application security education company that delivers Game-like AppSec Training for Developers.

“We’ve been working with Checkmarx for a while now and our existing technology integration has proven to be a very natural fit for customers. The acquisition is an obvious force-multiplier, it’s superb for Codebashing’s future growth prospects, and fantastic for our customers”

    Tweet this

Traditional secure coding education is ineffective and cannot scale to deliver continuous and across the board secure coding knowledge. Long training courses disrupt the developer’s daily routine and don’t address the specific challenge as it appears. Moreover, participants tend to retain only a fraction of the materials in between the traditional “annual” training cycles.

Maintaining Developer AppSec knowledge is a real challenge for enterprises and a real concern for application security professionals. According to the SANS 2016 State of Application Security survey, the lack of AppSec skills, tools and methods was ranked most often as being in the top three challenges to implementing AppSec by respondents.

Pioneering the idea of shifting security left and empowering developers to deliver secure applications, this acquisition allows Checkmarx to introduce continuous, in-context, bite sized secure coding training. Effective training allows enterprises to grow their in-house security skills, which results in fewer vulnerabilities being introduced into code in the first place.

Codebashing delivers a hands-on interactive training platform built by developers for the needs of developers. Education gamification saves precious time and eliminates the need for expensive secure coding courses with irrelevant material, allowing organizations to implement secure coding training in a DevOps and CI/CD environment without impacting delivery timelines.

“Checkmarx has been addressing the security skill challenge for over a decade and once we saw the value we can deliver to our customers by integrating Codebashing’s platform within our solution offering, we knew this would be a game changer for the industry,” said Emmanuel Benzaquen CEO of Checkmarx.

Gyan Chawdhary, CTO & Founder of Codebashing, has been active in the AppSec community for years. During his journey, he discovered that legacy Computer-Based Training approaches simply don’t resonate with developers.

“The team at Codebashing is very excited to join Checkmarx and we are looking forward to deliver our mutual offerings to millions of developers who will leverage the natural fit between Checkmarx and Codebashing,” said Gyan.

“We knew this was going to be an exciting journey for us when requests started pouring in. Large-scale organizations like Microsoft, Fitbit and Sky, and a whole host of other household names across the tech, retail, and financial verticals – have already implemented our solution to train, refresh and validate their developers’ secure coding techniques,” said John Yeo, CEO & Co-Founder of Codebashing. In regards to the acquisition, “We’ve been working with Checkmarx for a while now and our existing technology integration has proven to be a very natural fit for customers. The acquisition is an obvious force-multiplier, it’s superb for Codebashing’s future growth prospects, and fantastic for our customers,” said Yeo.
