  • Tricentis Founder Wolfgang Platz Releases Book, Enterprise Continuous Testing

The book introduces a Continuous Testing strategy that helps Global 2000 enterprises transform software testing to meet the needs of fast-paced Agile and DevOps initiatives

Vienna, Austria and Mountain View, Calif. – December 2, 2019 – Tricentis announced the publication of Enterprise Continuous Testing: Transforming Testing for Agile and DevOps, written by Tricentis Founder Wolfgang Platz and Cynthia Dunlop. This book is targeted to senior quality managers and business executives who need to achieve the optimal balance between speed and quality when delivering the software that drives the modern business. It provides a roadmap for how to accelerate delivery with high confidence and low business risk.

“Even with the most extreme automation, the ‘test everything’ approach is not feasible…but actually, it’s not necessary or even desirable,” explained Wolfgang Platz. “If you rethink your approach to testing, you can get a thorough assessment of a release candidate’s business risk with much less testing than you’re probably performing today.”

Enterprise Continuous Testing: Transforming Testing for Agile and DevOps introduces a Continuous Testing strategy that helps enterprises transform testing to meet the needs of fast-paced Agile and DevOps initiatives. Software testing has traditionally been the enemy of speed and innovation—a slow, costly process that delays releases while delivering questionable business value. This new strategy helps organizations test smarter, so testing provides rapid insight into what matters most to the business.

All Profits to Benefit Specialisterne Austria, a Non-Profit Committed to Inclusion through Neurodiversity

Tricentis is donating all proceeds from Enterprise Continuous Testing to Specialisterne Austria, a non-profit committed to identifying, qualifying, and enabling the employability of talent in the autism spectrum. Under the umbrella of the globally-active Specialisterne Foundation, they partner with corporations, training, and educational institutions to unlock the full potential of neurodiversity for innovation and business excellence.

People with an autism spectrum condition are often great software testers because of their structured and analytical approach, detail-orientation, and perseverance. They quickly identify patterns and tend to find aberrations and mistakes that others miss. Yet, despite these strengths, between 60-80% of adults with autism are unemployed. Specialisterne has made it their mission to change that. Tricentis has been partnering with Specialisterne Austria since 2018 to provide state-of-the-art Software Tester Training for these talented individuals who are otherwise easily overlooked.

“The exceptional involvement of Wolfgang Platz and his team allows our candidates to acquire sought-after testing skills that build on their individual strengths and meet market needs,” explained Markus Kalbhenn, Member of the Managing Board of Specialisterne Austria. “The quality of this training has been instrumental to the incredible success of this program. We are very honored to have Tricentis as our partner and to see this joint commitment strengthened yet again.”

  • Accenture Launches myNav, Cloud Platform to Help Enterprises Navigate the Cloud Landscape

myNav assesses, designs and simulates cloud solutions to accelerate business transformation

NEW YORK; Nov. 26, 2019 – Accenture (NYSE: ACN) today launched myNav, a cloud platform that helps organizations design and simulate different cloud solutions to identify the ones that best fit their specific business requirements.

Identifying the right cloud solution can be complicated, as there are multiple cloud providers and cloud models, including public, private, multi and hybrid. Further, many companies spend significant time and money migrating applications and data centers to the cloud only to find that the applications don’t always operate optimally. Accenture research shows that nearly two-thirds of companies are not seeing the expected benefits from their cloud migration initiatives.

myNav evaluates multiple variables — including an organization’s technology infrastructure, applications, data, operational model and business outcomes — to identify the right solution for enterprises, then simulates it at scale to confirm its viability and refine the business case. By providing a customized roadmap, myNav enables organizations to maximize the return on their current and future cloud technology investments. For example, myNav recommends the application transformation approach for clients to accelerate their innovation in the cloud.

“We built myNav based on our knowledge repository of more than 30,000 cloud projects and over 80 industry solutions deployed worldwide in nearly every industry,” said Bhaskar Ghosh, group chief executive of Accenture Technology Services. “myNav uses this repository to simulate optimal and scalable cloud architectures and solutions. By providing a more informed view and a calibrated cloud strategy for business transformation, myNav helps clients compete more effectively in today’s data-driven, cloud-enabled economy.”

myNav provides a recommended cloud target through a three-step process:

    • Scanning and assessing the client’s existing infrastructure, application and data landscape and recommending the most appropriate cloud architecture and solution;
    • Using an automated artificial intelligence (AI) engine to interact with Accenture’s library of collective cloud expertise and recommend an enterprise architecture and solution; and
    • Simulating and testing the scaled-up model of the client’s recommended cloud solution to identify the value and help build the business case for an optimal solution for their business requirements.

“Enterprises need solutions to not only ease their initiatives of ‘migrate to and transform in the cloud but also bring certainty in their cloud journey,” said Yugal Joshi, vice president at Everest Group. “They are struggling in deriving value from cloud as they are not able to deeply assess what will work for them. As multi-cloud strategies become increasingly important, enterprises will need to have better migration approaches to ensure ROI from cloud initiatives. The key is to bring conviction in cloud adoption by learning from other adopters, leveraging advanced data insights, and creating contextualized cloud adoption strategies that can predict and guide what will work, what will not, and what are the changes needed for a transformative cloud journey.”

Unique in the market, myNav is the only platform that enables organizations to discover, assess, design and simulate end-to-end cloud solutions at scale.

Accenture has supported cloud computing projects for 80% of the Fortune Global 100 across 68 countries and has trained more than 84,000 professionals on cloud technologies and architectures. The company has been innovating in cloud technology for a decade and holds more than 300 granted patents and pending applications across its global cloud portfolio.

  • Fugue Announces Free Tier to Empower Engineers to Build and Operate Secure Cloud Systems

Fugue Developer provides automation tools to visualize cloud infrastructure, identify misconfiguration risks, and demonstrate compliance

Frederick, Md. – November 21, 2019 – Fugue, the company delivering autonomous cloud infrastructure security and compliance to the enterprise, today announced Fugue Developer, a free tier that puts engineers in command of cloud security through the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC). Fugue Developer provides automation tools to visualize cloud infrastructure, detect misconfiguration risks and policy violations, understand infrastructure change, and demonstrate compliance.

Cloud misconfiguration is the number one cause of cloud-based data breaches, and traditional cloud security has failed to address it while frustrating developers with overbearing constraints and time-consuming manual processes. Fugue recognizes that engineers own the security of their cloud infrastructure, and Fugue Developer empowers them with the tools they need to build and operate securely in highly dynamic and regulated cloud environments.

“A lot of attack vectors are exploited via cloud misconfiguration, said Carl Alleyne, senior DevOps engineer at New Light Technologies. “Fugue gives DevOps engineers and administrators a leg up on cloud asset management and configuration drift detection.”

    Fugue Developer enables engineers to:

    • Auto-generate visualization diagrams of cloud infrastructure and inspect resource configurations and relationships
    • Identify cloud misconfiguration risks and policy violations at every stage of the SDLC and get rich feedback to quickly correct them
    • Demonstrate cloud infrastructure compliance for CIS Foundations Benchmarks, Fugue Best Practices, and custom policies
    • Monitor changes to cloud infrastructure to understand the impact on the security and compliance posture of their environment
    • Protect security-critical cloud resources with drift detection and automated remediation without the burdens of scripts and bots

“The cloud upended traditional IT security, forcing hard tradeoffs between agility and security that results in neither while impeding those in a position to make a difference—software developers,” said Phillip Merrick, CEO of Fugue. “Fugue Developer puts cloud security in the hands of the developers building and maintaining cloud-based systems so they can free themselves of these frustrations once and for all.”

Fugue Developer provides an API and CLI to automate infrastructure policy validations and integrate cloud security in CI/CD pipelines, and a rich GUI for dynamic, exportable visualizations that can handle at-scale cloud environments. Fugue Developer supports custom rules using the open source Rego policy language and Open Policy Agent (OPA) engine. Out-of-the-box support is provided for CIS Foundations Bechmarks for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure, and the Fugue Best Practices Framework for identifying advanced cloud misconfiguration vulnerabilities.

Fugue Developer is available now for individual engineers here. Customers receive a 30-day free trial of Fugue Enterprise, after which they can choose to purchase Fugue Enterprise or transition to Fugue Developer. Fugue Enterprise supports unlimited users and environments, and additional out-of-the-box support for NIST 800-53, PCI, HIPAA, SOC 2, GDPR, and ISO 27001. Fugue is a Software as a Service (SaaS) product.

    About Fugue

Fugue is enterprise cloud security developed for engineers, by engineers. Fugue prevents cloud misconfiguration, ensures continuous compliance with enterprise security policies, and provides full visibility into the security posture of AWS and Azure cloud environments. Fugue automates compliance validation for CIS Foundations Benchmarks, GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001, NIST 800-53, PCI, and SOC 2. Customers such as PBS, Sparkpost, SAP NS2, and TrueCar trust Fugue to protect their cloud environments. Fugue’s investors include New Enterprise Associates, Future Fund, and In-Q-Tel (IQT). • Cloudbees Is A Launch Partner For Google Cloud Run As Product Goes Ga

Industry Leaders Collaborate to Offer Streamlined Deployment of Containerized Applications, Better Access to CloudBees Solutions on Google Cloud Platform Marketplace

GOOGLE CLOUD NEXT, LONDON AND SAN JOSE, CA. – November 20, 2019 – CloudBees, the enterprise DevOps leader powering the continuous economy, today announced an extension of its partnership with Google. As a Google Cloud Run launch partner, CloudBees will offer developers more flexibility in their deployment of containerized applications. Additionally, the availability of four CloudBees solutions – CloudBees Core, CloudBees Jenkins Distribution, CloudBees Jenkins Support and CloudBees Accelerator – on GCP Marketplace makes it easier than ever to acquire cutting-edge CloudBees and Google Cloud DevOps technologies to create, deploy and manage high-quality software.

GroupM has implemented CloudBees Core and GCP technology to accelerate its DevOps transformation. “In our business, we have to be agile to ensure we are always serving the right ad to the right person,” said Moshiur Khondokar, director of engineering at GroupM. “Combining the unlimited scalability of Google Cloud with CloudBees’ speed, quality and security gives us an advantage as we continuously grow our addressable advertising capabilities to support our clients globally.”

Google Cloud Run is a serverless compute platform that abstracts away infrastructure management, freeing up developers to concentrate on building great applications. For the first time, CloudBees Core users can deploy stateless containers to Google Cloud Run directly from Kubernetes. This streamlines the development process, reducing time and stress. Additionally, because Google Cloud Run charges only for resources used, customers can now deploy easily and avoid unnecessary costs from overprovisioned resources.

“CloudBees is delivering key DevOps capabilities to empower developers to write code their way, and we’re delighted to offer their solutions via Google Cloud Platform Marketplace,” said Manvinder Singh, director, partnerships at Google Cloud.

GCP Marketplace offers more than 160 popular development stacks, solutions and services optimized to run on Google Cloud Platform and instantly accessible. CloudBees has also announced the availability of CloudBees Core, CloudBees Jenkins Distribution, CloudBees Jenkins Support and CloudBees Accelerator on GCP Marketplace. Making these offerings available on the Marketplace removes another layer of complexity, enabling customers to deploy applications quickly as well as consolidate payment for GCP services and CloudBees solutions onto one bill.

“In today’s fast-paced business environment, enterprises are looking for any way they can to reduce friction,” said Jason Mero, vice president of business development and strategic alliances at CloudBees. “Partnering with Google Cloud, we have cleared the way for organizations to build and run applications their way, using the best technologies, operating with optimal efficiency. Developers can work with the peace of mind that they can build and deploy containerized applications on their platform of choice while accessing all the benefits of CloudBees’ turnkey, elastic, Jenkins as a Service resource.”

  • Memfault Emerges from Stealth, Announces $2.5M Funding Led by Uncork Capital and Launch of the First Cloud-Based Monitoring Solution for Hardware Devices

Memfault Tackles IoT Bug Issues Head-on with First to Market Automated Diagnostics Solution for Embedded Software Developers; Early Customer Includes Hardware Giant Logitech

San Francisco, CA – November 15, 2019 – Memfault, which provides the first cloud-based monitoring solution for hardware devices, announced the official launch of its platform as well as a seed round of $2.5M in funding led by Uncork Capital. S28 Capital and Y Combinator also participated in the round.

Memfault’s founders are engineers from Fitbit, Oculus and Pebble, and its lead investor, Uncork Capital, is run by Jeff Clavier, whose investments include Fitbit, Sendgrid, Eventbrite, and Mint among others. With decades of hardware experience between its founders and investors, the company was uniquely positioned to build the first cloud-based monitoring tool to help hardware teams catch, triage, and fix bugs in the field before they are discovered by end users.  Early customers using the platform include hardware companies Logitech and Proxy.

“Memfault is providing us with detailed performance analytics on our devices and is able to give us valuable insight such as identifying the number of devices affected by the same issue so we can understand the scale of a problem, something that was impossible to determine beforehand,” said Karthik Rajagopal, Director of Software Engineering at Logitech.  “Memfault can also pinpoint down to the line of code where the problem lies so we don’t waste time trying to determine how to fix the issue once it’s already in the hands of customers.  Before Memfault, we could only learn the symptoms of the issue without details on the origin of it, making it harder and slower to fix bugs.   We’ve just begun working with Memfault, but we can tell its tool will save our developers many hours each week and put better performing products in the hands of our end users.”

Most hardware companies today do not find out something is wrong until a customer calls or tweets. This is enormously labor intensive, and often raises the alarm too late to contain the damage. As IoT continues to grow, with 20 billion connected devices projected for 2020, manually monitoring every device in the field and triaging every issue reported by customers becomes intractable.

“As the number of devices and the complexity of software grows, hardware teams need more advanced diagnostics tools,” said Jeff Clavier, Founder and Managing Partner of Uncork Capital,  “We have spent a long time in this industry working with hardware companies managing millions of devices in the field, and no one but Memfault is targeting the critical diagnostic issue they are facing.  We are excited to work with Memfault’s executive team who hail from leading hardware companies to tackle the issue of automatically catching and fixing bugs on hardware devices before they impact end users.”

    How it Works

Memfault acts as an early alert system; companies use Memfault’s software to incrementally roll out their firmware updates and immediately get notified of issues before they impact the entire fleet.

The company’s SDK connects into low level diagnostics features available in all connected devices and streams that data back to their cloud where it is analyzed.  Memfault’s backend identifies, classifies, and deduplicates error reports so engineers know what issues are most prevalent, and where the fault lies exactly, without needing to collect affected devices back from customers.

“Memfault gives us detailed event recording and visual metrics analytics for our device performance so we can proactively address any issues,” said Lance Cohen, Director of Engineering at Proxy.  “Prior to Memfault we relied on Slack to communicate about product issues, but the Memfault dashboard makes it very easy to identify issues at a quick glance and collaborate with teammates on resolutions.   What mobile app developers have had for performance and stability analytics is finally now coming to hardware devices, and we’re excited to see new features like alerts rolled out on the Memfault platform in the coming weeks so we can continue to be proactive in putting the best performing devices for mobile access in the hands of our customers.”

“Great engineers gain leverage through great tooling,” said Andrew Miklas, Partner at S28 Capital and Co-Founder of PagerDuty.  “Despite the explosion of the IoT market, the tools available to firmware engineers severely lag those used by their software engineering counterparts.  Memfault is changing this by making rapid iteration possible in the firmware development process.  We’re very excited to join François and his team on this journey.”

“At Memfault, we treat hardware companies like they are software companies and have built diagnostic tools specifically for developers,” said François Baldassari, CEO of Memfault.   “Our years of experience at major hardware companies gave us insight into the widespread problem of firmware bugs for these businesses.  With the proliferation of connected devices and more complex applications squeezed onto chips, it has become nearly impossible for hardware firms to keep up with bugs and get them fixed before the software is rolled out.  Memfault can come in and automatically detect and fix those bugs before they ever reach end users, which can save thousands if not millions of dollars for hardware companies. We are excited for the support of industry veteran Jeff Clavier and his team, as well as S28 Capital and Y Combinator as we quickly scale this business to meet the needs of these growing device companies.”
