  • Forescout Commences Litigation Against Advent International

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 20, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Forescout Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: FSCT), the leader in device visibility and control, filed a complaint with the Delaware Court of Chancery asserting that affiliates of Advent International Corporation (“Advent”) have violated the terms of their merger agreement with Forescout. Forescout is asking the Court to compel Advent to honor its commitments and immediately complete the pending acquisition of Forescout.

On May 15, 2020, Advent notified Forescout that it would not consummate the acquisition on May 18, 2020, as scheduled. Advent’s purported excuse for its wrongful conduct is that a closing condition to the transaction has not been satisfied because a “material adverse effect” has occurred at Forescout. Forescout believes that no material adverse effect has occurred, that all closing conditions are satisfied, and that Advent is obligated to close the transaction. Forescout believes that Advent has relied on meritless excuses to support its position.

The merger agreement explicitly allocated the risk of any impacts from COVID-19 to Advent. Since announcing the transaction, Forescout shareholders overwhelmingly approved the transaction.

“We have satisfied all conditions to closing under our merger agreement, and a material adverse effect has not occurred,” said Theresia Gouw, Chair of the Forescout Board. “The only change since the merger agreement was jointly executed in February is the deepening of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has significantly impacted global macro-economic conditions. All companies have been challenged by this pandemic, and it is highly disappointing that Advent would attempt to exploit market volatility to renege on its contractual obligations, particularly when the merger agreement explicitly excludes the effects of a pandemic as a material adverse event. Advent is required to promptly complete the transaction. We are taking immediate action to enforce Forescout’s rights and ensure that Advent fulfills its obligations. We are confident that the steps that we are taking are in the best interests of Forescout and its shareholders.”

“I remain confident in the strength of Forescout and its incredible team,” said Michael DeCesare, CEO and President of Forescout. “Forescout is in a strong financial position, with $100 million of cash on hand as of March 31, 2020. We are well positioned for success and the fundamentals of our business have not changed. Customers around the world trust Forescout to help solve their most pressing security challenges, and that’s exactly what we are doing.”

Prior to announcing the Advent transaction on February 6, 2020, the Forescout Board conducted a robust and comprehensive process with the assistance of independent legal and financial advisors. Advent is a sophisticated and experienced investor, and over the course of its due diligence investigation – which lasted hundreds of hours over multiple months – Forescout shared with Advent all relevant information, including detailed financial and technical information as well as Forescout’s internal estimates and projections. The Forescout Board and management team dedicated significant time and resources to providing Advent with detailed and transparent information in response to its every request, ensuring that Advent had a complete picture of Forescout’s business and market opportunity.

  • Report: COVID-19 Crisis is Driving Digital Accessibility Awareness

Survey Shows Resurgence in Digital Transformation Efforts Offering Opportunity for Organizations to Become More Accessible to People with Disabilities

HERNDON, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Deque Systems, a leading software company specializing in digital accessibility, today announced results of a survey showing how the COVID-19 crisis has heightened awareness of the impact of accessibility on the digital channel.

The survey, conducted in partnership with the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) and G3ict Research, also showed that accessibility practitioners expect increased workloads in the coming months to make their digital assets more accessible.

“Where would we be without the conveniences of online delivery, teleworking and online entertainment during this time of crisis?” says Preety Kumar, CEO of Deque Systems. “COVID-19 is causing a second wave of digital transformation efforts. Organizations who are already practicing accessibility early in their development process are best positioned to help to ensure people with disabilities are not excluded from the essential services the Internet provides. But, with the majority of websites being inaccessible to assistive technologies, we still have a long way to go.”

What is Digital Accessibility? Digital Accessibility is the practice of making digital documents, web and mobile apps accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. Many people with visual, auditory, motor, speech or cognitive disabilities rely on various forms of assistive technology or usability features to experience the full benefit the web has to offer. Without the continuous use of features like captions, alt-text for screen readers, zoom functions, simple presentation layouts and more, digital content may be inconvenient or impossible to use.

Survey Key Findings: The majority of survey respondents are senior-level, U.S.-based accessibility practitioners working in industries including education, financial services, government, healthcare, pharmaceutical services and more. Among the key findings:

    • 83 percent reported that COVID-19 has raised the profile and importance of digital channels within their organizations.
    • 62 percent say it has increased awareness of the impact of accessibility on digital channels.
    • 90 percent expect the volume of their work to increase or stay the same in the next three months.
    • More than one-third of respondents have heard reports that users with disabilities are having increased difficulty accessing services during this time of crisis.
    • When asked how employees with disabilities are able to work remotely with digital platforms, 63 percent said they have some or great difficulty.

“While we are pleased to see greater attention being paid to accessibility, we’d also like to see organizations further empower those responsible to fulfill this critical mission,” continues Kumar. “Addressing accessibility will help close the digital divide and allow everyone to access critical services during times of crisis and stability alike.”

This survey of 292 accessibility practitioners was conducted by Deque Systems during March and April of 2020 in cooperation with the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) and G3ict Research. • Humio accelerates its momentum with extended collaboration with IBM

Humio  delivers streaming observability at scale to more customers around the globe with integration with IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management

Humio is pleased to announce that we signed an agreement with IBM to make the Humio log management platform available as part of the IBM Multicloud Management Pak.

Humio, the only log management platform enabling complete observability for all streaming logs in real time, self-hosted or in the cloud, today announced the signing of an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) agreement with IBM that will allow the companies to collaborate on solutions that can help clients continually ingest data across their infrastructure, and help identify a variety of problems from application service down-time to cyberattack.

The agreement enables IBM and Humio to create solutions that combine Humio’s log management platform with IBM Cloud Pak for Multicloud Management. Humio minimizes the challenge of sifting through the rapidly, ever-growing volume of event and data logs by enabling users to log all data — structured or unstructured — in real time and at scale. As a result, IBM will offer clients a suite of products to provide complete data observability and management.

Keeping up with today’s complex environments can overwhelm even well-staffed IT teams, especially since traditional log management tools present significant incremental costs, data storage problems, and search challenges. Customers leveraging Humio’s platform through IBM will have access to its additional support services including but not limited to global IT support, implementation services, predictive analytics, system developers, augmented reality, multi-vendor processing, and a single point of contact interface.

“Observability is critical for organizations of all sizes, and we are thrilled to join IBM in helping businesses to gain instant visibility of all of their data at scale through our unlimited pricing plan that removes the single biggest barrier to effective log management. The collaboration with IBM further validates Humio’s technology and allows us to quickly expand our global reach to provide even more customers with our modern log management platform.”
    Morten Gram, EVP at Humio

With this first OEM relationship, Humio can further increase its market share and more quickly deliver its platform to more customers across the globe. IBM plans to go to market with Humio’s platform directly.

  • IBM launches Equal Access Toolkit to help developers build accessible websites and applications

Increase the accessibility of your application and website from the start with the open source IBM Equal Access Toolkit.

By Si McAleer, Program Director, IBM Accessibility

Although nearly 1 in 4 adults in the U.S. face some type of disability, an industry sample has found that in 2020 over 98 percent of home pages had a detectable accessibility error. Accessibility can be forgotten or left until too late in the process when it is difficult to retrofit the site or application. Knowledge, discipline, and tools are all essential to building in accessibility throughout a development process.

As we near Global Accessibility Awareness Day, I am excited to announce a new open source offering and design toolkit that give designers and developers the tools they need to make their websites and applications accessible.
The Equal Access Toolkit and Checkerare tools for developers and testers to use to embed accessibility directly into their workflow.

    ·        The IBM Equal Access Toolkitis a public set of guidelines that deliver phase-based guidance about accessibility to all members of a team creating an enterprise offering.
    ·        The Accessibility Checker is part of an open suite of automation tools. It is a browser extension that allows developers or auditors to evaluate a web-based component or solution for accessibility issues.
    Specifically our project offers:
    ·        Clear guidance on what’s needed at each stage of development, from initial research through planning, design, development, verification and launch
    ·        A prioritized breakdown of accessibility requirements at each stage
    ·        Test automation
    ·        Browser-based accessibility checking with powerful navigation and built-in help that supports learning exactly the right information, at exactly the right time

Ensuring all team members are responsible for accessibility
All of the tools are built on the same rules engine that is kept up to date to meet the latest accessibility standards and share guidance elements so that all team members can be responsible for accessibility. Each guideline comes in bite-sized snippets to highlight where team members should focus their attention and get the most value at the most efficient pace.
The toolkit enables product teams to create accessible tools along the way without the need for an accessibility expert or formal education. At the same time, designers and developers can fill in gaps as they go without a loss of continuity.

    See the checker in action
The tool offers a full accessibility evaluation of the web page which you can use to understand any potential violations by either looking at the page element or the accessibility checklist item.

    Get started
Access the checker via GitHub or get the browser extension through you’re the Chromeor Firefoxstores.
If you want to run the checker in a batch configuration, you can get the checker through the NPM repository. Because the toolkit is technology-agnostic, you can use it in a variety of Node.js-based environments for automated testing.

    Conclusion
IBM’s long and storied history with diversity and accessibility has taught us that incorporating those aspects into our work creates better innovation and outcomes. We understand it is not always easy to find the best practices or guidance to fully understand or test accessibility solutions. This is why we wanted to establish an open source platform that empowers offering teams to conceive, design, develop, ship, and report on their accessible offerings regardless of their accessibility expertise.
In honor of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we encourage you to visit https://ibm.com/ableto access the IBM Equal Access Accessibility Toolkit and Checker and make accessibility an inherent part of your development process.

  • Grafana 7.0 Delivers Major Visualization Upgrades and Makes Significant Progress in Uniting & Transforming Data from All Sources ranging from Metrics and Logs to Traces and Beyond

Today, Grafana Labs is announcing the general availability of Grafana 7.0 with significant enhancements to simplify the development of custom plugins and drastically increase the power, speed and flexibility of visualization. The latest release helps organizations realize their monitoring, visualization and observability goals even faster. Open source Grafana is among the world’s most popular dashboard solutions and boasts more than 500,000 active installations and millions of dashboards in use across the globe. Grafana 7.0 is an accumulation of effort commencing after 6.0 spanning nearing 18,000 commits and 3,699 pull requests from 362 contributors around the world. Additionally, there are hundreds of company, commercial, and community data-source plugins and thousands of sample/starter dashboards supporting users’ needs both on-premise and in the cloud.

The Grafana 7.0 enhancements heavily focus on helping users and organizations across these key areas:

    • (Easier to) Connect and Unify All Your Data
      • New plugins as a result of partnerships across Google (Stackdriver/Cloud Monitor), Microsoft (Azure Monitor), and Amazon (Cloudwatch), plus logs support with Open Source Loki and tracing inputs from Zipkin and Jaeger. These augment Grafana’s existing community and enterprise commercial plugins ranging from popular open source projects like Prometheus, Graphite and Elasticsearch to proprietary sources such as Splunk, Datadog, New Relic, Zabbix, Oracle, ServiceNow and including your own custom data sources/API.
      • New component libraries, tools, data structures and a completely rebuilt common and unified data and plugin framework based on Apache Arrow provides consistent data structure and significantly reduces the effort required to develop plugins.
    • (Much more power and control to) Process and Transform Your Data
      • A shared set of common data operations that were previously duplicated as custom features in many panels or data sources are now an integral part of the Grafana data processing pipeline and something all data sources and panels can take advantage of.
      • Transformations include renaming, summarizing, combining, and performing calculations from different panels, putting time series labels into columns, reusing and refining query results across other panels, and more.
      • New data inspection feature lets users see, export (CSV), and perform simple transformations on the underlying source data for a panel. They can also drill into query execution details for faster troubleshooting.
    • (Faster ways to) Visualize Your Data… Even Traces
      • A new tracing viewer to complement the existing support for metrics and logs enables users to trace the path of a single request through a distributed system.
      • A range of automatic and easy-to-use rendering options drastically simplifies effort and results in dashboard panels in a variety of formats including tables, non-time-series charts and more. This augments the significant library of existing panel plugins including maps, pie charts and gauges.
      • New panel options, new edit experience, and new table panel along with easier resizing.
    • Search, Discover, and Secure Your Dashboards with new Enterprise Features
      • Okta and SAML team syncs.
      • Out-of-the-box searching and dashboard reporting for usage trends to more easily identify inactive and popular dashboards.
      • Ability to identify concurrent dashboard users for faster collaboration.

“I can’t wait to get this in the hands of our users. This is truly a major release for us — not just a .0 or laundry list of features, but a fundamental, system-wide advancement. With this release, users are going to experience an increase in speed to visualization, along with a host of capabilities that will give them one place, at the user level to perform simple and complex functions and transformations on their data. For example, by chaining a simple set of point-and-click transformations, users will be able join, filter, re-name, and calculate to get the results they need. Grafana is becoming an ideal tool to speed and ease essential data transformations and reduce the need to perform disjointed transformations through a variety of query languages outside the dashboard.” — Torkel Ödegaard, creator of Grafana and co-founder and CGO of Grafana Labs

“We believe vendors shouldn’t own observability strategies; users and organizations do. We are focused on helping them in their journey through an open and composable framework for uniting an organization’s complex environments that can range from their own custom APIs and open source metrics like Prometheus or Graphite and Loki for logs, to merging open source and proprietary systems like Elasticsearch, Datadog, Splunk, Oracle, and ServiceNow.” — Raj Dutt, co-founder and CEO of Grafana Labs.

Grafana 7.0 is available immediately for Grafana Cloud customers or through a free 30-day cloud trial and for download.

  • Render Now Serving More Than One Billion Web Requests Monthly; Expands Into Europe With Easiest Cloud for Hosting Any App or Website

SAN FRANCISCO, May 13, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Render, the easiest cloud provider for developers and startups, today announced that it served more than one billion HTTP requests in April which is more than two times the number of requests in March. Today Render also announced that it has launched early access to its first hosting region in Europe, delivering on the number one request from users.

When it comes to hosting applications in the cloud, developers and startups have traditionally had to pick between large cloud infrastructure providers like AWS which are prohibitively complex and difficult to use or inflexible Platform-as-a-Service solutions like Heroku which are expensive and hard to scale.

Render launched in April 2019 with an innovative alternative that developers and startups love. Render gives them the best of both worlds: instant setup and incredible ease of use, coupled with the power and flexibility previously afforded only by large cloud providers. It has done this by creating an intuitive hosting platform that requires zero knowledge of servers and infrastructure and combining it with powerful containerization technology which enables customization, cost reduction and reliability at scale.

Render went on to compete against thousands of startups and won TechCrunch Disrupt SF’s Startup Battlefield for being the most promising early-stage and fundamentally disruptive startup.

Today Render has thousands of customers that include startups like Gatsby to larger organizations like Stripe.

“Render is a fantastic product! We moved from another cloud provider because we wanted easier deployments, managed databases and an intuitive interface. Setup took minutes, thanks to simple and clear documentation, and their customer service is unparalleled. Render removes a lot of complexity around managing a backend so we can focus our time on building features. Highly recommended!” said Amos Elliston, who is currently building Placement, an online talent management platform shared, after serving as CTO of Flexport.

Render even hosted a major presidential campaign. Shreyes Seshasai, technical lead for the Pete Buttigieg presidential campaign, said: “We moved to Render from a major cloud provider because it was the best solution that could help our small team of four software engineers meet the massive scaling and flexibility needs of the campaign. We were able to deploy over 20 services on Render with their incredible platform and support, including our main website which reached tens of millions of Americans.”

Render’s first hosting region in Europe, which is in Frankfurt, Germany, reduces network latency for all Render customers with a Europe-based audience by as much as 70 percent. It also satisfies EU General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), making Render available for the first time to customers subject to GDPR.

Ferruccio Balestreri at Al.ta Cucina, the largest online recipe sharing community in Italy, said: “Leveraging Render’s EU hosting region will make Al.ta Cucina’s site even faster, providing a better user experience for the nearly one million visitors we serve every month. We’ll be able to reduce our hosting costs by as much as 30 percent and redirect internal resources currently spent managing GDPR-related processes. Render gives our team a big leg up towards achieving our business goals.”

Anurag Goel, Render’s founder and CEO said: “Render usage and revenue continue to increase faster than we’d ever imagined, and we’ve doubled our team to build on this momentum and support our users. Users trust us with their most critical workloads, especially as many more companies move to the cloud and to Render given the macro environment. As we expand Render to Europe and even more locations in the future, we maintain our relentless focus on UX, on meeting our customer needs and on keeping the cloud accessible and scalable for everyone.

Steve Herrod, Managing Director at General Catalyst who invested in Render and the former CTO of VMware, said: “Render is doing an amazing job of capturing developers’ hearts and minds, and our astronomical growth reflects that. The next few months will surely be even more impressive as Render’s world-class team expands the product and more businesses of all sizes adopt the platform.”

    About Render

  • Sauce Labs Launches New Machine Learning-Based Analytics Solution to Improve Test Quality

    • 2020 Continuous Testing Benchmark Report reveals 27 percent of all test failures are traceable to a single common failure pattern
    • New Failure Analysis offering leverages AI and ML to rapidly analyze test data and use pattern recognition to surface most common causes of test failure
    • Enables developers to quickly address the most pervasive issues impacting test quality

SAN FRANCISCO – May 12, 2019 – Sauce Labs Inc., the leading provider of continuous testing solutions that deliver digital confidence, today announced the launch of Failure Analysis, a new analytics solution that applies sophisticated machine learning to customers’ pass/fail data in order to surface the most common reasons a given set of tests fail. Failure Analysis gives developers, testers, and QA managers insight into how often the same type of failure repeats itself across a given test suite, enabling them to move quickly to address the most pervasive issues and drive rapid improvement in test quality.

The newly released Sauce Labs Continuous Testing Benchmark Report for 2020 reveals that a significant portion of test failures can be traced to a small number of underlying issues impacting a test suite. Based on anonymized data from millions of tests run on the Sauce Labs platform, the benchmark report found the single most common failure pattern was responsible for 27 percent of all failures within a test suite. The top three most common failure patterns accounted for 48.2 percent of all failures, and the top five most common failure patterns accounted for 59.3 percent of all failures. By finding and aggregating the most common failure patterns, developers can remedy the majority of test failures with just a few fixes, eliminating much of the costly and time-consuming manual follow up traditionally required to determine the source of failed tests.

“Testing is critical to delivering flawless applications and creating great user experiences, yet the task of maintaining a high-quality test suite has only become more difficult as organizations accelerate the pace of development and automate testing at scale,” said Matt Wyman, chief product officer, Sauce Labs. “With Failure Analysis, developers finally have a machine learning-driven tool to help balance the demand for faster deployments with the heightened need to maintain a reliable test suite. We’re excited to deliver this new resource to aid in the testing community’s collective efforts to improve test quality, increase developer productivity, and build digital confidence.”

Improving test quality is a critical need

The release of Failure Analysis comes as many development teams reach an inflection point in their digital journeys. Though more organizations than ever have shifted to agile development methodologies and implemented continuous testing throughout the software development cycle, poor test quality continues to undermine many efforts to deliver quality applications at speed. Poor test quality also increases the occurrence of false failures, frustrating testers and developers responsible for manually following up on those failures, and eroding confidence in the overall automated testing process.

The findings of the 2020 Continuous Testing Benchmark Report underscore just how prevalent poor test quality is among most enterprise organizations. The report found that only 24.37 percent of organizations pass at least 90 percent of their desktop tests, while only 25.45 percent of organizations pass at least 90 percent of their mobile tests.

Failure Analysis from Sauce Labs addresses this increasingly urgent need by helping testers and developers better understand why tests are failing and enabling them to prioritize remediation accordingly. Leveraging powerful machine learning algorithms to analyze an organization’s pass/fail data and its Selenium and Appium command logs, Failure Analysis gives testers and developers visibility into precisely where and how often failure patterns recur within a test suite, all from a single dashboard view within the Sauce Labs UI. Using the learnings provided by Failure Analysis to improve test quality, organizations can also dramatically lower the occurrence of false failures, ensuring that failed tests carry a high signal-to-noise ratio and developers feel confident that a failed test has truly detected a breaking change as opposed to the flaky noise of an unreliable test suite.

Failure Analysis is available now as a standard capability for enterprise customers as part of the Insights package within the Sauce Labs Continuous Testing Cloud. Sauce Labs provides a host of analytics capabilities that provide intelligent views into test data, including a new test overview and trends dashboard, interactive visualizations that enable customers to drill down on granular data sets, and a powerful REST API that allows users to aggregate data into their home-grown quality dashboard or test analytics tools.
