  • Rockset Transforms Real-Time Analytics with New Tools for Developer Velocity

New developer tools make it faster than ever before to build applications that search and analyze real-time data

SAN MATEO, Calif. – August 20, 2020 – Rockset, the real-time indexing database company, today released a new ecosystem of developer tools that integrate with industry-standard workflows to increase developer velocity for real-time analytics projects. Modern real-time data applications — such as customer 360, real-time A/B experiments, fraud detection and personalization — help companies accelerate growth and revenue in the digital economy. Rockset enables real-time analytics at cloud scale, without operational burden, and was founded by the creators of open source RocksDB.

Rockset is uniquely focused on enhancing the developer experience. Rockset builds Converged Indexes™ for low latency analytical queries on semi-structured data. Unlike first generation tools like Elasticsearch and Apache Druid, Rockset takes an entirely new serverless approach to real-time analytics in the cloud, shattering operational barriers. With the new release, companies can deploy real-time applications in record time, often reducing many weeks of effort to a few hours.

eGoGames, Europe’s leading eSports platform, selected Rockset over Elasticsearch, according to a recent case study. “eGoGames is a gaming company, so speed is important to us. We need to analyze our data in real time, and Rockset is critical to making this possible,” said eGoGames CDO David Serna. “Using Rockset was one of the best decisions for our company. We now use Rockset for everything we do. It’s the perfect solution for building out real-time analytics without incurring a lot of effort and cost on our part.”

Query Lambdas, released by Rockset earlier this year, run developers’ saved queries in response to events. Today’s release includes a new ecosystem of developer tools intended to help users edit, execute, and deploy Query Lambdas from their local development environment, while integrating seamlessly with Version Control and CI/CD systems. With this release, developers building real-time applications can:

    • Version control queries: Query Lambdas allow developers to build powerful data APIs simply using SQL. With this release these Query Lambdas can be created, updated and managed from existing version control systems such as Git.
    • Manage Query Lambdas right from the IDE: A Visual Studio Code extension for managing Query Lambdas right from the IDE.
    • Use tags for CI/CD: Tags allow developers to safely automate your Query Lambda deployments using industry-standard CI/CD tools.

“To date, real-time analytics has never been built with developers in mind. Query Lambdas are an industry-first shift to better serve the developer community and accelerate API development. With this release, real-time analytics elegantly fits with modern serverless apps and GraphQL. It allows developers to take full advantage of the power and flexibility of SQL,” said Venkat Venkataramani, co-founder and CEO of Rockset. “As we realize a more data-driven future, we have to remove the operational burden and simplify the process of building modern applications that need real-time analytics. Developers should be bottlenecked only by their own creativity and not what their underlying data infrastructure can do.”

  • Hazelcast Cloud Enterprise Streamlines Application Modernization Projects Utilizing Multi-Cloud Architectures

Multi-cloud in-memory application acceleration now available on-premises, AWS and now Microsoft Azure

San Mateo, Calif., August 19, 2020 – Hazelcast, the leading open source in-memory computing platform, today announced updates to its managed service that enables enterprises to simplify the delivery of multi-cloud capabilities to application modernization projects. Previously available only on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Hazelcast Cloud Enterprise is now available on Microsoft Azure and includes a new WAN Replication capability to easily connect multiple clouds, regardless of the provider.

According to research in collaboration with Intel1, multi-cloud and hybrid cloud are one of the top 5 technologies or trends identified as the most disruptive by IT decision makers. In addition to avoiding vendor lock-in and improving availability, multi-cloud strategies provide the ability to deploy resources closer to the end-user to deliver a better overall experience.

With Hazelcast Cloud Enterprise, Hazelcast maintains the software deployment as a managed service for customers, enabling rapid uptime and freeing customers to focus on developing innovative, business-critical applications. Hazelcast Cloud Enterprise runs the Hazelcast IMDG Enterprise edition, providing customers with advanced features that include high-density scale, over-the-wire encryption and replication/failover capabilities that provide extra protection across zones, regions and cloud vendors.

“Hazelcast’s managed service solves performance and reliability issues that prevent enterprises from migrating to the cloud and the addition of Microsoft Azure provides more flexibility in deployment options,” said Kelly Herrell, CEO of Hazelcast. “Factor in the WAN Replication capability for multi-cloud applications and customers can act instantaneously on data anywhere.”

Edge to Cloud to Data Center

Facilitating a connection between clusters, WAN Replication is a proven feature of Hazelcast IMDG Enterprise which allows customers to synchronize data across data centers. Now a part of Hazelcast Cloud Enterprise, WAN Replication opens new possibilities to support data and applications regardless of location. More importantly, it enables customers with multi-cloud strategies to leverage a consistent in-memory computing platform regardless of the application’s location.

The addition of WAN Replication opens new opportunities for enterprises related to customer experience, availability and scalability. While business requirements like disaster recovery (DR) and load balancing may be among the first that leverage this feature, the ability to replicate data across the different clouds also opens up the ability to deploy applications closer to customers and to data sources. With edge computing starting to become mainstream, Hazelcast is the only data storage and processing platform that can be deployed at the edge, cloud and on-premises, resulting in a significant reduction of latency and an overall improvement in application performance, providing an enhanced customer experience.

Hazelcast Cloud Enterprise and Microsoft Azure

Hazelcast Cloud Enterprise, now available on Microsoft Azure, is already available on AWS where it has SOC2 Type 1 compliance and with Type 2 expected by the end of the year. Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and IBM Cloud are currently on the roadmap.

  • Puppet Enters Compliance Partnership with Center for Internet Security (CIS)

Puppet doubles down on compliance with new relationship

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 18, 2020 — Puppet, the industry standard for infrastructure automation, today announced a partnership with the Center for Internet Security, Inc. (CIS®). By formally partnering with CIS, Puppet is able to harness the power of CIS’s global community of security and compliance professionals to build better solutions for customers.

“CIS literally wrote the rule book on compliance – their Benchmarks have become industry standard for compliance across the IT industry,” said Yvonne Wassenaar, CEO of Puppet. “With this partnership, we’ll be able to unite CIS’s extensive body of knowledge with Puppet’s deep IT and automation expertise, making it easier for our customers to achieve the enforcement of compliance they need across their increasingly complex infrastructure environments.”

Most companies — from financial firms to healthcare institutions — must adhere to certain regulatory standards, but it can be difficult to keep up with the ever-increasing amount of rules and regulations needed to stay compliant. IT teams need better and faster ways to ensure compliance without requiring multiple different tools, solutions, or manual effort.

In May, Puppet announced a service offering aimed at alleviating this compliance pain point, ensuring that customers are equipped to pass audits quickly through the enforcement of CIS Benchmarks, CIS’s best practices for securing IT systems and data.

According to a report from Ponemon Institute, “the average cost for organizations that experience non-compliance problems is $14.82 million, a 45 percent increase from 2011.” However, companies that incorporate automation and continuous compliance policies into their infrastructure can save thousands of dollars and countless hours by reducing the complexities of audits, as well as hardening their systems against exploits and vulnerabilities. By leveraging CIS Benchmarks, Puppet is able to provide an end-to-end compliance solution for customers that enforces CIS standards across all systems and addresses gaps as they are identified.

“We are excited to work closely with Puppet to bring compliance best practices and CIS Benchmarks to its large customer base while also advancing our mission to make the connected world a safer place,” said Curt Dukes, CIS Executive Vice President & General Manager, Security Best Practices. “This partnership reinforces our commitment to helping others improve their compliance and overall security posture.”
