“Our vision at Applitools is to support an emerging and critical form of software testing and monitoring that uses automated Visual AI technology to create a visually perfect customer experience on every device, 24/7,” said Gil Sever, CEO of Applitools. “To better protect a brand’s integrity in the era of digital transformation, this new release of Applitools Eyes will help large enterprise customers scale Application Visual Management practices across DevOps, CI and CD monitoring; front-end development and digital brand management for business leaders and designers.”

“Automated Visual AI Testing ensures USA Today readers across over 200 publications and digital brands enjoy an exceptional UI experience,” comments Greg Sypolt, director of quality engineering from Gannett | USA Today. “In the era of dynamic content and digital transformation, Applitools is vital to providing the automated test coverage we need to protect our brand’s UI.”

How Applitools Supports Application Visual Management

With thousands of possible iterations of a company’s digital brand in the marketplace, technology is vital to significantly reduce User Experience (UX) bugs that negatively impact customers. Application Visual Management technology helps complete the test automation chain to catch bugs in the User Interface (UI) before they can impact customer churn, a company’s revenue, or a company’s brand image.

Launched in 2015 and used by more than 300 enterprises, including some of the largest in the world, Applitools Eyes saves up to 80 percent of testing time, and improves the visual testing coverage by a factor of five – running across different browsers, form-factors, devices and localization layers. Version 10 is a major step forward in addressing enterprise-grade scale, and new capabilities include:

    • Improvements to the Visual AI Core – Applitools continues to advance its Visual AI technology with Version 10, providing a 99.999 percent accuracy rate based on its fast-growing and industry-leading data sets of automated visual AI tests. The company has executed nearly 100 million visual tests to date on its visual AI engine, analyzing billions of individual UX elements. Version 10 includes significant improvements to its Layout Algorithm for dynamic content use cases.
    • New UI Analytics Dashboards – New Applitools Eyes analytics dashboards allow individual engineers, team leaders and business stakeholders to review analytics that surface root-cause visual test failures relevant to a specific environment. Users can review visual test execution status and baseline status updates, bugs squashed and coverage levels specific to individual tasks and test assignments. The new drill down capability also provides a more detailed analysis into a single test or single user view.
    • Advancements in UI Baseline Management – Test automation engineers can now complete the test automation lifecycle with a visual component spanning hundreds of application UI baselines, for the entire R&D team across any branch, simultaneously. New capabilities in Version 10 enable automated baseline updates for similar changes, and can ticket the UI bug or update the baseline with a single “accept” or “reject” command followed by a JIRA ticket. Testers also can see an aggregated view of all “similar” UI bugs, prioritized by frequency of occurrence, which can save dozens of hours per application release for a single user, and hundreds of hours during the pre-release phase for large teams.
    • Team Collaboration and Ecosystem Integrations – Applitools Eyes now includes new collaboration features to help connect cross-functional teams and provide unified visibility of Visual Testing results based on existing CI, rendering services, bug tracking and collaboration tools – as well as most Appium or Selenium test languages. New validation regions for test-step viewers allows users to provide context on potential UI issues to shorten release time. Major new integrations with MicroFocus and Slack (available in March) further support enterprise collaboration by seamlessly integrating with nearly every testing, development and delivery tool in the market today.
    • Faster and Smarter Visual Test Management – With a 3X improvement to test execution time (individual tests now run in seconds, not minutes), Version 10 of Applitools Eyes is faster than ever. In addition, a new SDK is available for PDF forms, allowing customers that use these formats in highly regulated industries, such as financial services and healthcare, to leverage automated visual testing on PDF forms to check for compliance. XCTest Screenshots have also been added to extend visual test coverage to this screenshot type.

“The software delivery process is becoming highly automated, and automated testing plays a huge role in terms of quality, performance and customer experience. It’s great to see new innovation targeted at the visual aspects of application management,” said Joe Colantonio, founder of TestTalks and Guild Conferences.

  • XebiaLabs Drives Triple-Digit Growth and Closes $100M+ Strategic Capital Investment from Susquehanna Growth Equity and Accel

New Era of Enterprise DevOps Propels Record Revenues, New Customers, and Backing of Top Investors

BOSTON, MA – February 12, 2018 – XebiaLabs, the recognized leader in Enterprise DevOps and Continuous Delivery software, today announced that it has completed 2017 with 117% growth in new business and secured a Series B growth investment of over $100M from investors, including Susquehanna Growth Equity and Accel, along with many existing shareholders. Today’s news validates XebiaLabs’ unparalleled success and leadership in the thriving DevOps market, a momentum that will be fueled by this new injection of capital.

Enterprise Scalability – The Next Frontier of DevOps

XebiaLabs was founded in the early days of DevOps to help IT teams develop and deploy software more simply and quickly. As companies in many industries now rely on software in every part of their business to compete, their success depends on their ability to deliver software quickly, safely, and effectively—and in a way that is sustainable and scalable across an entire organization and vast, hybrid infrastructure.

Forrester Research declared in a recent blog post that 2018 will be “The Year of Enterprise DevOps,” acknowledging the growing number of companies that have reached an inflection point where they are moving from individual projects in which one team automates one application, to enterprise-wide initiatives that can support thousands of software developers and applications. Traditionally, every developer had to write one-off custom code to release software to end users. As companies transform the way they build and deliver software, they need developers to spend 100% of their time building the actual business applications.

KeyBank, a financial services institution headquartered in Cleveland, OH, with over 20,000 employees, saw the strategic importance of software and turned to XebiaLabs and its DevOps platform for help. John Rzeszotarski, SVP, Director of Continuous Delivery and Feedback at KeyBank explains: “A large and complex organization like KeyBank with several hundred applications requires security, governance, and traceability for all its application releases. Moreover, organizations that are striving to remove bottlenecks and meet the speed of the business need a powerful and simple means to execute each release. XebiaLabs has provided us a platform that can automate even our most complex software applications quickly and reliably.”

Growing Number of Global 2000 Companies Turn to XebiaLabs to Scale DevOps Across their Organizations

XebiaLabs is spearheading this new era of enterprise DevOps as more and more companies turn to them to support their growing DevOps initiatives. In 2017, new business grew by 117%, as the company added dozens of new Global 2000 clients, including AIG, Bank of America, Toyota, Alliance, DavitaHealthcare, TD Bank, Scotiabank, Raiffeisenbank, Anthem, and NASA. XebiaLabs also once again received important accolades from top industry analysts, Gartner and Forrester Research, who have ranked the company as a leader in its field.

“This past year was our strongest to date, and today’s investment will perfectly position us to lead a new era where the essential focus is on scaling DevOps across the enterprise,” said Derek Langone, CEO of XebiaLabs. “Tapping into the experiences of these exceptional VC firms, who have guided software industry leaders such as Facebook, Dropbox, Slack, Cloudera, PagerDuty, and Atlassian, will be invaluable as we work with them to define the future of enterprise DevOps.”

“In fact, we recently introduced an industry-first DevOps intelligence solution, XL Impact,” Langone continued. “XL Impact allows companies to take a critical step in improving software delivery – tracking and reporting on the business impact of their DevOps initiatives.”

Growth Investment to Service New Era of Enterprise DevOps

XebiaLabs’ unparalleled track record of building the enterprise DevOps market, its forward-thinking product innovation, such as its DevOps intelligence product, XL Impact, and this new 100M+ investment, will enable the company to service increasing enterprise demand. XebiaLabs will invest in staffing to drive further DevOps innovation and thought leadership. The company also recently announced the addition of a new Chief Product Officer, Robert Stroud, a recognized industry thought leader and former Principal Analyst with Forrester Research. XebiaLabs will continue to work closely with new and existing clients and increase its global reach as the industry-standard DevOps platform for enterprises.

  • ExtraHop Introduces Reveal(x) to Expose Attacks on Critical Assets and Automate Investigations

New Security Analytics Product Discovers and Contextualizes all Network Transactions to Surface High Risk Anomalies and Cut Investigation Time from Days to Minutes

SEATTLE – January 30, 2018 – ExtraHop, the leader in analytics for security and performance management, today announced the general availability of ExtraHop Reveal(x). This new security analytics product builds on enterprise-proven anomaly detection powered by wire data, giving security teams much-needed insight into what’s happening within the enterprise while automating the detection and investigation of threats. By analyzing all network interactions for abnormal behavior and identifying critical assets in the environment, Reveal(x) focuses analysts’ attention on the most important risks and streamlines response to limit exposure.

    An Industry in Transition

Security teams face a convergence of factors that complicate operations and decrease visibility. Hybrid and multi-cloud architectures increase agility but reduce operational control. Encryption is vital but disguises both benign and malicious activities. At the same time, businesses are shifting the emphasis from physical control points like endpoints and firewalls to logical perimeters such as trusted domains, privileged users, IoT, cloud, microservices, and containers. A new source of insight is required for modern architectures, one that provides empirical evidence to help analysts triage and investigate threats with confidence and timeliness.

“Attack surfaces are expanding and the sophistication of attackers is increasing. There simply aren’t enough talented security professionals to keep up,” said Jesse Rothstein, CTO and co-founder, ExtraHop. “Reveal(x) provides security teams with increased scrutiny of critical assets, detection of suspicious and anomalous behaviors, and workflows for both automated and streamlined investigation. We enable practitioners to do more with less by getting smarter about the data they already have.”

A Better Approach, A More Efficient Workflow

Reveal(x) addresses the gaps in security programs by harnessing wire data, which encompasses all information contained in application transactions. It auto-discovers, classifies, and prioritizes all devices, clients, and applications on the network and employs machine learning to deliver high-fidelity insights immediately. Anomalies are directly correlated with the attack chain and highlight hard-to-detect activities, including:

    • Internal reconnaissance — scans for open ports and active hosts, brute force attacks, attempted logins, and unusual access patterns.
    • Lateral movement — relocation from an original entry point, privilege escalation, and ransomware spread.
    • Command and control traffic — communications between a compromised host within the network and the targeted asset or an external host.
    • Exfiltration — large file transfers, unusual read/write patterns, and unusual application and user activity from an asset either directly or via a stopover host.

In a single unified system, Reveal(x) guides analysts to review relationships between these malicious activities and related evidence that informs disposition: the exhibited behavior, baselined measurements, transaction details, and assets involved. Live Activity Maps show communications in real time and can also replay transactions to illuminate the incident’s timing and scope. Detailed forensic evidence is just a click away, enabling immediate root cause determination using individual packets.

    What Customers Are Saying

“When you work in a business dealing with the nation’s leading insurance companies, there is a lot of pressure to get it right. We rely on ExtraHop to provide us with the visibility needed to investigate performance and security issues,” said Chris Wenger, Senior Manager of Network & Telecommunication Systems at Mitchell International. “With ExtraHop in our IT environment, we can more easily monitor all of the communications coming into our network, including use of insecure protocols. These insights enable my team to better secure our environment. ExtraHop has been that extra layer of security for us.”

    What Analysts Are Saying

“In security, your intelligence is only as good as the data source from which it’s derived,” said Eric Ogren, Senior Analyst at 451 Research. “The network is an ideal place to identify active computing devices and call out threats as they attempt to probe and communicate. ExtraHop Reveal(x) balances real-time critical asset insights with machine learning-based network traffic analytics to create visibility that will help security teams stay one step ahead of security incidents for those assets that matter most.”

    What Partners Are Saying

“There are no silver bullets when it comes to identifying and managing risk within a business information security program. It’s a multidimensional problem that requires reliable sources of insight and best-of-breed technology,” said Tim O’Brien, Director of Security Operations at Trace3. “We are excited to integrate the power of ExtraHop Reveal(x) enterprise visibility and machine learning into our world-class security practice, helping our customers identify and address threats before they affect the business.”

  • GitLab Acquires Gemnasium to Accelerate its Security Roadmap

Developers can use GitLab to automatically detect security vulnerabilities protecting code from attacks

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF.—January 30, 2018– Today GitLab, the leading integrated product for the entire DevOps lifecycle, announced it has acquired Gemnasium, a company that provides software to help developers mitigate security vulnerabilities in open source code. GitLab is acquiring both Gemnasium’s technology and its team of experts, who will come on board to implement robust security scanning functionality natively into GitLab’s CI/CD pipelines. Automating application security testing allows businesses to develop and iterate software faster without sacrificing a strong security posture.

With open source software (OSS) adoption rapidly growing, the risk for vulnerabilities is at an all-time high. The number of open source modules in use continues to increase, so the surface area for vulnerabilities to be exploited has expanded far and wide. As the dependency tree goes deeper, it can be daunting or even impossible for developers to keep track of which software they are using and what ramifications its use may have on the business.

Gemnasium has created the best-in-class solution for managing security threats related to open source dependencies. With a larger database and advanced algorithms, their solution finds more vulnerabilities with fewer false positives. This allows developers to protect their code and spot vulnerabilities in open source software before attackers can expose an organization to threats such as malware injections, Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks and data breaches.

“As a team of engineers, we’re excited to join the GitLab team and bring the benefits of Gemnasium to the DevOps lifecycle,” said Philippe Lafoucrière, founder of Gemnasium. “Our goal has always been to help developers build the most secure software possible and joining GitLab allows us to do just that.”

GitLab has already begun adding native security functionality, such as the addition of Static Application Security Testing (SAST) in the 10.3 release, along with Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST) and Container Scanning in the 10.4 release. With the Gemnasium team coming on board, GitLab will further accelerate its security roadmap to bring developers a native and seamless experience for rapidly deploying secure code.

“GitLab’s vision is to provide best-in-class tools for the complete DevOps lifecycle in a single application,” said Sid Sijbrandij, CEO of GitLab. “Gemnasium is the best dependency monitoring solution on the market, and we are excited to be making its team part of the GitLab experience.”

  • Panaya Launches PTC 2.0 to Drive Innovation by Accelerating and Standardizing Enterprise Application Testing

Panaya Test Center leverages advanced technologies to replace manual methods for increased collaboration and higher quality software, essential for enterprise agility and digital transformation

HACKENSACK, NJ, January 31, 2018  – Panaya, the leader in SaaS-based testing and continuous delivery solutions announced today the availability of Panaya Test Center 2.0 (PTC), a test acceleration platform that helps organizations drive innovation by accelerating and standardizing enterprise application testing. PTC 2.0 introduces machine learning capabilities that automatically create real-life test cases based on actual usage, improving testing relevance and efficiency while generating audit-ready test documentation for proof of compliance, including e-signatures.

Since launching Panaya Test Center in November 2016, Panaya has more than doubled its number of customers to over 300 Global 2000 companies, and is successfully positioned as an alternative to HPQC (HP Quality Center).  Maximilian Mayrhofer, Global Program Manager at Allianz Global Investors expressed that, “We would not have been able to do the testing that we did if we hadn’t had the automation and the acceleration potential that Panaya brought to the table.”

PTC 2.0 helps IT keep pace with rapidly changing requirements while reducing testing efforts by 30-50% without sacrificing scope or quality. The testing process is accelerated by standardizing test cycles as both technical IT and business users adopt the same testing methodology, automating manual methods of testing, and providing increased visibility into every test cycle –  including large scale UAT cycles.

In May 2017, Panaya announced Autonomous TestingSM for SAP, eliminating the pain associated with business knowledge capture and the process of creating and maintaining manually engineered scripts for zero touch test case creation and maintenance. PTC 2.0 introduces Omega, the machine learning engine behind Autonomous TestingSM, which uses machine learning algorithms to automatically create real-life test cases based on Business User activities captured in production.

With PTC 2.0, users can save time by accelerating manual testing traditionally managed in Excel and Word. Every test execution is effortlessly documented – including test evidence and a record of steps for test reproduction, seamlessly engaging all relevant business and IT stakeholders as they adopt the same testing methodology. Martin Spiegler, Project Manager at Eissmann Group Automation noted this achievement, “In total, we achieved 50% time savings on all regression tests, as we recorded our test cases and can re-use them every time.”  Finally, audit-ready test documentation provides proof of compliance, including e-signatures for test runs and the monitoring of the signature process, essential for heavily regulated industries including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and financial services.

“Providing visibility into business processes and workflow, and ensuring business process quality is often challenging for companies,” said IDC analyst Melinda-Carol Ballou, in the white paper Optimizing Business Processes for Competitive Success.” Organizations that evolve away from the restrictions and confines of manual business process quality approaches (with use of Microsoft Word, Excel, email etc.) benefit significantly from increased visibility, management and analysis, with the ability to reuse existing effective business processes.”

Jake Klein, CEO at Panaya added that, “Despite the fact that IT departments invest heavily in automation, manual methods are still used for 80% of enterprise application testing. Panaya Test Center 2.0 leverages advanced technologies to replace inefficient manual methods so that our users can collaborate and create higher quality software faster, which is essential for enterprise agility and digital transformation.”

  • BigID Closes $14 Million Series A Funding to Transform Protection and Privacy of Personal Data

New Investors Include ClearSky Security, Comcast Ventures and SAP; Funding to Accelerate Adoption of First Product to Help Enterprises Meet Specific GDPR Requirements

NEW YORK and TEL AVIV – January 29, 2018 — BigID Inc., a leader in enterprise data protection and privacy for personal data, today announced that it has raised $14 million in Series A funding. New investors in the round include ClearSky Security, Comcast Ventures and the SAP.iO Fund, among others. Previous investors, including BOLDstart Ventures, also participated in the Series A round. The round brings total funding to date to $16.1 million. BigID will use the funding to grow its engineering team in Israel and expand global sales and marketing to accelerate the adoption of the company’s data-driven personal information (PI) protection, privacy and governance platform.

BigID also announced today that ClearSky Security Managing Director and former Blackstone CISO Jay Leek joined its board of directors.

Based in the U.S. with engineering headquarters in Tel Aviv, Israel, BigID was founded by veterans of the identity, data protection and big data markets to transform how enterprises protect and manage the privacy of personal data. The company’s platform uniquely combines machine learning with identity intelligence to find, track and de-risk identity data at petabyte scale.

“On the eve of GDPR and in the midst of endless mega breaches, we’re in a new era of personal data rights,” said Jay Leek. “Individuals now have a fundamental right to their data. For data controllers – the enterprises collecting and storing this data – this right means that they will need to be more accountable and transparent with the way they protect customer data. BigID is uniquely positioned to help companies meet the new set of data governance, protection and compliance requirements, and is an exciting opportunity for ClearSky Security.”

BigID launched its initial product in mid-2017 to help organizations address the data protection, privacy and governance requirements of emerging regulations like China’s Cybersecurity Law and the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which goes into effect on May 25, 2018. In doing so, the company is first to market with a solution that:

    • provides enterprises the unique ability to find any person’s data across an enterprise to meet GDPR Data Subject Requirements;
    • enables real data-driven inventory and mapping to automate GDPR Article 30 Record Keeping requirements; and
    • empowers enterprise data protection officers (DPOs) with an ability to capture GDPR-required purpose-of-use, consent and retention information without error-prone manual processes.

“Enterprises already favor SAP solutions for their out-of-the-box compliance and governance features, as well as their integrations with SAP’s market-leading GRC offerings,” said Ram Jambunathan, Managing Director of SAP.iO. “We are excited about the potential for BigID to further enhance the ability of SAP customers to discover, map, and correlate personal data across their enterprise business applications to orchestrate and automate the GDPR compliance processes.”

According to Gartner,1 “Privacy protection is critical to consumer and employee trust. Moreover, evolving privacy legislation creates a new business case for compliance with regulatory requirements. Privacy management programs include requirements directing IT operations and personal data protection throughout the entire data life cycle.” The report continues, “Therefore, a privacy management program, sometimes described in the form of a standard, has to have a holistic view for the entire organization.”

“Customers are the lifeblood of any business and unless an organization can properly safeguard the security and privacy of their customer data they will not survive in the digital economy,” explained Dimitri Sirota, CEO at BigID. “Regulations like GDPR crystallize the need for companies to understand their data. BigID gives companies a first-of-its-kind way to find, secure and govern their identity data across the data center and cloud. After all, you can’t know your customer unless you first know their data.”

BigID announced its Series A funding in conjunction with CyberTech Israel, the most significant conference and exhibition of cyber technologies outside the United States. BigID will demo its product suite in Booth 35 at the event January 29-31, 2018. To schedule a demo outside of CyberTech Israel, go to http://bigid.com/demo or contact BigID at info@bigid.com.
