  • Cloud Elements, Sap Simplify Third-Party Enterprise App Integration

Partnership Delivers New Ways for SAP Cloud Platform Customers to Leverage Open Connectors to Ease App Integration

LAS VEGAS and DENVER – Sept. 24, 2019 – Cloud Elements, a pioneer in API integration, and SAP today revealed enhanced functionality for SAP Cloud Platform Open Connectors to smooth the often-arduous process of third-party enterprise application integration.

The announcement, which came on the first day of the SAP TechEd 2019 conference, is the latest fruit of a technology alliance to help developers more easily integrate SAP and non-SAP applications to automate business processes and benefit their customers.

    Here’s what’s new:

    • Open Connectors have been embedded within SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Data Hub and Data Intelligence, as well as SAP Marketing Cloud. These embedded solutions allow users of those apps, even if they are non-technical, to configure integrations directly from the applications’ UI. For example, an SAP Analytics Cloud user may now import their files from Amazon S3 in a few clicks.

    • Approximately 200 Connectors are now available to SAP customers – “an important confirmation of the important work we’re doing with SAP to resolve the increasing integration challenges facing CIOs, CDOs, heads of IT and application managers,” said Mark Geene, the founder and CEO of Cloud Elements. “Now they can rest easier knowing these apps can be integrated easily with the SAP core via Open Connectors.”

    • Customers and SAP partners can use Open Connectors builders to create first class connectors that dramatically extend their catalog of applications.

    • Cloud Elements also announced their product, Conductor, a point-and-click integration builder that lets both developers and non-developers easily create ad-hoc integrations to automate everyday processes. Conductor is a breakthrough product that allows non-technical users – commonly referred to as citizen integrators – to build integrations among the applications being leveraged inside and outside of their business units.

    • Bacardi, which is including Open Connectors within its digital integration strategy, is presenting at TechEd Barcelona. If you’ll be at the event and are curious how Open Connectors can help you connect SAP and non-SAP ecosystems together, this session is a can’t-miss. Search “Bacardi Digital Integration HUB: Hybrid Integration Use Case” (Session ID INT-209) in your agenda builder and sign up before it’s full.

With SAP Cloud Platform Open Connectors, developers can deploy pre-built connectors that simplify the connectivity and seamless integration with non-SAP cloud applications. The delivery of improved functionality means that SAP Cloud Platform customers will be able to leverage Open Connectors directly, as well as via the aforementioned Embedded Integrations and adaptors within CPI and APIM, to dramatically simplify their integration and data management/aggregation/analytics objectives.

The delivery of this improved functionality comes at a particularly important juncture in the development of the cloud business economy – as SaaS applications serving a multitude of niche capabilities are being adopted at an incredible pace by business units around the world.  The average enterprise now deploys more than 1,500 cloud services to get their work done – running more than 1,000 SaaS applications. With Open Connector Builder, any application with an API may be connected in the same way, saving developers from the nuances found in integrating with native APIs.

    Fruits of Cloud Elements-SAP Partnership

The expanding Cloud Elements-SAP partnership means new integration capabilities within the SAP Cloud Platform, and also available within several SAP applications directly. Users of SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Data Hub and SAP Data Intelligence may now import data from a wealth of non-SAP sources, with no developer or IT support needed to do so. Further, SAP Marketing Cloud delivered a Gotowebinar integration in August and has a roadmap of future integrations they’re looking to deliver via Open Connectors – making it easier than ever for marketing departments to share data between SAP Marketing Cloud and the rest of apps they’re using in their stack.

Since the companies teamed up, they have been laying the foundation to make Enterprise Application Integration and the process of getting data to HANA from peripheral data sources easier than ever before. Whether data needs to be brought in for analytics purposes, to be aggregated and massaged with Data Hub, or to simply be stored within HANA for multiple uses, it can now be harnessed with Open Connectors if it lives in a SaaS application.

More use cases are uncovered daily, and there are now SAP customers in the pharmaceutical, retail, technology, security, and food and beverage industries who are relying on Open Connectors’ to execute heterogenous application/data strategies and integrating third-party enterprise applications into their plans – including major brands such as Bacardi, whose TechEd session is noted above.

  • Micro Focus Announces Vertica in Eon Mode for Pure Storage

Industry’s First and Only Analytical Database Solution with Separation of Compute and Storage Architecture Available for On-Premises Environments

AUSTIN, TX – September 17, 2019 – Today at Pure//Accelerate 2019, Pure Storage’s annual user conference, Micro Focus (LSE: MCRO; NYSE: MFGP) announced the general availability of Vertica in Eon Mode for Pure Storage. The industry’s first and only analytical database solution that separates compute from storage for on-premise environments, Vertica in Eon Mode for Pure Storage drives better economics and greater choice for customers by expanding the ability to dynamically manage workloads and simplify operations beyond public clouds.

Organizations in every industry are challenged by the volume of data and speed of analytics required to lead the market. Two industry trends are coming together to meet these challenges — object storage such as S3, and the separation of compute from storage. Object storage provides a cost-effective means of storing massive data volumes. The separation of compute from storage helps to manage more dynamic workloads and enables workload isolation for individual teams and projects. But, until now, these capabilities have been largely limited to the cloud. Vertica in Eon Mode for Pure Storage addresses these trends and delivers the high data volume management, unmatched performance, and ease of operations that analytics-driven businesses need to become data disruptors, on-premises or in public clouds.

“Public cloud architectures deliver value to many organizations, but many companies need the same advantages in on-premises or in hybrid deployments,” said Colin Mahony, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Vertica at Micro Focus. “Now, with Vertica in Eon Mode for Pure Storage, organizations can leverage cloud architecture if they choose hybrid environments or remain on-premises. With support for Pure Storage FlashBlade, Vertica provides our customers with a unified analytics platform that brings cloud architecture down to earth.”

Many organizations, particularly in highly regulated industries, have chosen not to migrate to the cloud due to talent gaps, complex migrations, loss of control, governance and cost management challenges, vendor lock-in, and more. Others need the flexibility of hybrid deployments. Vertica in Eon Mode for Pure Storage brings all of the capabilities and benefits of cloud-optimized architectures to on-premises environments, providing customers even greater choice.

“Pure Storage FlashBlade makes fast object storage a reality,” said Brian Schwarz, Vice President of Product Management, Pure Storage. “By collaborating with Vertica to deliver Vertica in Eon Mode for Pure Storage to market, customers now have the best of both worlds – fast object storage with the highest analytical performance in a dense, power efficient, and simple-to-manage system within their own data centers.”

Vertica in Eon Mode for Pure Storage enables organizations from financial services to telecommunications, healthcare to retail and beyond to address their variable workload requirements, with these available advantages:

    • Elastically scale storage as the database grows from terabytes to petabytes
    • Deliver the concurrency and performance needed as more and more users require analytics for business decisions
    • Isolate workloads based on specific department needs and use cases and eliminate the costs and headaches of database replication
    • Size compute to “hot data” rather than to the overall database for further cost savings
    • Combine siloed data on-premises and develop practices and procedures before moving to a completely new environment as a stepping stone to the cloud
    • Prepare for hybrid deployments that feature the same “tech stack” for on-premise and in the cloud for operational simplicity and flexibility

  • Cameyo Introduces RDP Port Shield Technology to Protect Remote Servers from Brute Force Attacks and Ransomware, Further Easing Cloud Migration

Company Also Releases a Free, Open Source RDP Monitoring Tool to Help All Organizations Identify Attacks in Their Environments

CARY, N.C. – Sept. 18, 2019 – Cameyo, the cloud-native virtual application delivery platform that brings any Windows application to any device from the browser, today introduced its new RDP Port Shield security technology to proactively protect customers from the dramatic increase in RDP vulnerabilities across the industry, including brute force attacks and ransomware. And to empower all organizations with more data about potential threats to their networks when using RDP or Citrix, Cameyo is also releasing a free open source RDP monitoring tool – RDPmon – that any organization can use to identify the attacks taking place over RDP in their environment. By helping organizations identify and proactively protect against these threats, Cameyo seeks to further ease cloud migration by helping to mitigate the related security concerns.

2019 has seen a dramatic increase in ransomware and brute-force attacks, with the latest McAfee Labs Threat Report revealing that ransomware increased by 118% in the first quarter of 2019, and that access is increasingly being gained via brute-force attacks to open and exposed remote access points such as RDP. Cameyo’s own research into brute force attacks revealed that the average internet-connected server currently faces 150K brute force-triggered password attempts per week.

Dynamic Protection with RDP Port Shield

To protect customers from these RDP-based vulnerabilities, Cameyo’s RDP Port Shield is the first built-in security technology of its kind that automatically closes RDP ports to the entire world, and then dynamically opens and closes them specifically to authenticated users, based on white-listed IP addresses, only when needed. Cameyo RDP Port Shield works by creating and managing an RDP white-list rule in real-time on the server, through Windows Firewall.

“As businesses embrace the cloud and target use cases for virtual desktop and virtual application delivery technologies to provide their users with access to critical applications, they are exposed to leaving RDP ports open to the world, creating the vulnerabilities that lead to brute-force attacks and ransomware,” said Mark Bowker, Senior Analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG). “Cameyo’s approach to RDP security extends and highlights their commitment to keeping their customers’ networks, data, and users safe and secure.”

Visibility for All with Open Source RDPmon

To help every organization better monitor and identify the brute force attacks in their environment and to help protect against ransomware, Cameyo is also releasing a free, open-source tool called RDPmon. RDPmon provides the entire industry a powerful free tool for monitoring attacks so that IT professionals can quickly identify and understand these threats – providing the critical data they need to mitigate the issues.

Any organization can easily download and install the open-source RDPmon on an RDS/cloud server for free from GitHub. After a quick guided configuration, IT admins will be provided with two views:

    • A tab showing the total number of attempted connections to their servers
    • A tab that identifies the applications that are in use on each server, the number of people using RDP, and the programs being utilized by each user.

RDPmon will also provide insight into any unintentional or non-approved software in use on the server. All information collected by RDPmon remains completely private as it remains on-premise in the user’s environment – Cameyo cannot access any data.

“Organizations of all sizes face a myriad of roadblocks on their way to digital transformation, and the security concerns surrounding cloud migration – especially in light of the dramatic rise of RDP-based attacks – are top of mind for executives in every industry,” said Andrew Miller, co-founder and CEO of Cameyo. “Cameyo understands that the productivity gains of virtual application delivery cannot come at the cost of security, and we have built the Cameyo platform from the ground up to protect our customers and their users. We created RDPmon because we believe the ability to identify the RDP-related vulnerabilities in your environment should be freely available to all. And RDP Port Shield is just the latest of our security advancements as we continually protect our customers from an evolving threat landscape.”

    Pricing and Availability

The Cameyo RDP Port Shield technology has been rolled out to all users of the Cameyo platform. Cameyo customers are not required to take any action in order to utilize this feature – it is now active for all users of the platform, and is included at no additional cost. The open-source RDPmon tool can be downloaded for free at https://cameyo.com/rdp-monitoring/ and the source code can be downloaded on GitHub at https://github.com/cameyo/rdpmon.

  • Capsule8 Protect Earns HIPAA Compliance Certification

Capsule8’s Comprehensive Linux Protection Platform Exceeds Standards for Access, Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems, and File Integrity Monitoring Requirements

NEW YORK, New York – September 17, 2019 – Capsule8 today announced that Capsule8 Protect, its comprehensive protection platform for Linux production environments, has been certified as compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This validates that Capsule8 helps healthcare organizations achieve HIPAA compliance while protecting their Linux systems against intrusions, unauthorized file and system modifications, and unauthorized access of electronic patient health information (ePHI).

Capsule8 Protect is the industry’s only high-performance, real-time attack detection and prevention platform purpose-built for Linux production environments – whether containerized, virtualized or bare metal. Safe for the busiest workloads on the busiest networks, Capsule8 automatically detects and eliminates exploits in progress – without impeding the performance and reliability of production workloads. Scalable and cloud-agnostic, Capsule8 Protect features an “API-first” architecture for seamless technology integration, enabling healthcare organizations to capitalize on existing investments.

Developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 1996, HIPAA establishes a national set of security standards for protecting certain health information that is held or transferred in electronic form. If any organization’s information processing capabilities can affect the security of ePHI, it must comply with the HIPAA standard. Importantly, ePHI must be maintained in a HIPAA-compliant manner, and ultimately be protected from breaches.

“Patient health information is a ‘premium’ resource for hackers that is often more valued – and compromised – than financial information. This is why a staggering 70% of healthcare organizations have experienced a data breach at least once in their history of operation,” said John Viega, co-founder and CEO of Capsule8. “With our new accreditation, Capsule8 has proven it can help companies securely handle ePHI and comply with the exacting requirements of the HIPAA standard.”

Following a rigorous evaluation by DirectDefense, a leading provider of HIPAA and security assessments, Capsule8 was deemed compliant for HIPAA controls regarding access, anti-virus, IDS/IPS and file integrity monitoring for architectures that rely on Linux for their host operating systems. Specifically, Capsule8 enables:

    • Protection of system services from unauthorized access to ePHI – Capsule8 performs file access monitoring and alerts on unauthorized program access.
    • Automatic or manual reconfiguration of access settings when there is an emergency – In the event of a suspected compromise, Capsule8 can put a Linux system into a secure mode, allowing only key administrator rights to ensure that the system is secure and to re-enable normal operations when conditions are safe again.
    • Review and audit of key activity regarding access to ePHI – All actions pertaining to ePHI are logged, establishing a permanent record. Capsule8 applies a risk-based categorization for key audit events to determine the scope and magnitude of any potentially inappropriate access.
    • Protection of production Linux systems from unwanted alteration or destruction – Capsule8 reports violations of security policies configured by system operators, allowing for complete audit logging of policy violations and specific response actions (if desired) for egregious policy breaches. Additionally, forensic data is stored in a database for further investigations.
    • Protection of Linux systems from unauthorized access to services and data – Capsule8 employs integrity verification to detect unauthorized changes to ePHI and provides notifications to management upon discovering discrepancies during integrity verification.
    • Immediate response to breaches of ePHI confidentiality – Capsule8 protects systems and data by performing actions configured to react to attempts at unauthorized access.

For more details on these benchmarks including distributed transactions, check out the 2.0 performance benchmarks post.

Yugabyte DB 2.0 also includes best-in-class PostgreSQL compatibility, Jepsen testing for correctness, and Blitzz-based Oracle-to-Yugabyte live migration utilities. New ecosystem integrations include GraphQL projects Hasura and Prisma, Rook.io and a variety of database administration tools. Yugabyte’s commitment to being 100% open source means developers can benefit from all these features without fear of vendor lock-in.

“Distributed SQL is the modern answer for any organization looking to adopt cloud-native technologies throughout their entire IT stack, including database infrastructure. With Yugabyte DB 2.0, developers can confidently transition away from monolithic databases without giving up the data modeling flexibility and transactional capabilities of SQL,” said Kannan Muthukkaruppan, co-founder and CEO, Yugabyte. “Yugabyte DB is the only database that checks all the boxes for open source, performance, correctness and PostgreSQL compatibility. We’re excited to be enabling both large enterprises and startups make the switch to distributed SQL, without making the large compromises that NoSQL databases demand.”

Yugabyte DB’s PostgreSQL-compatible features include support for both simple and complex data types, foreign keys, JOINs, distributed transactions with serializable and snapshot isolation levels, plus advanced functionality, like stored procedures and triggers. Application development with YSQL is easier than ever before with the availability of quickstarts and drivers for the most popular programming languages, including Java, Go, Python and C++. For developers looking to build event-driven systems using Apache Kafka, Yugabyte is currently beta testing change data capture (CDC) capabilities. Two-region deployments in multi-master and master-slave configurations have also been introduced in beta.

“We are evolving the technology stack at Kroger to meet the transformational needs of the business– to become a true omni-channel retailer in the food/grocery space,” said Sriram Samu, VP Engineering, Customer Technology at Kroger. “Our stack has been redesigned to be cloud-native, microservices-based and running both on-prem and on public clouds. We have been testing and evaluating Yugabyte DB as the distributed SQL database running natively inside Kubernetes to power the business-critical apps that require scale and high availability and have been very impressed with its SQL feature depth and wire compatibility with PostgreSQL.”

To confirm correctness under extreme conditions, YSQL underwent official Jepsen testing. This testing validated the new serializable isolation level and demonstrated the robustness of Yugabyte DB under plausible failure conditions such as network partitions, clock skew, and process restarts. This achievement gives Yugabyte DB the distinction of being the first database to pass the Jepsen twice for two separate APIs.

The launch of Yugabyte DB 2.0 precedes the first annual Distributed SQL Summit, taking place on Friday, Sept. 20, 2019 in San Jose, California. Led by Yugabyte, in partnership with the Postgres Conference Silicon Valley, the Summit features presentations from cloud-native data infrastructure experts from Amazon, Google, Facebook, Salesforce, Pivotal and more. • The Reactive Foundation Launches To Support Next Phase of Software Architecture

    Architecture

Alibaba, Lightbend, Netifi and Pivotal establish a new, neutral open source foundation to accelerate the availability of reactive programming specifications and software

SAN FRANCISCO, September 10, 2019 — The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization enabling mass innovation through open source, today announced the launch of the Reactive Foundation, a community of leaders established to accelerate technologies for building the next generation of networked applications. The foundation is made up of Alibaba, Lightbend, Netifi and Pivotal as initial members and includes the successful open source RSocket specification, along with programming language implementations.

The aim of reactive programming is to build applications that maintain a consistent user experience regardless of traffic on the network, infrastructure performance and different end user devices (computers, tablets, smartphones). Reactive programming uses a message-driven approach to achieve the resiliency, scalability and responsiveness that is required for today’s networked cloud-native applications, independent of their underlying infrastructure.

The Reactive Foundation establishes a formal open governance model and neutral ecosystem for supporting open source reactive programming projects.

“From the beginning of our work on RSocket during my time at Netflix, our intent was to have an open system that encouraged broad adoption, which is essential for networking technology. We’re thrilled to be hosted at the Linux Foundation with commitment from leaders and disruptors in the industry, and are excited to make progress enabling reactive programming,” said Ryland Degnan, Co-Founder and CTO at Netifi and Foundation community chair.

“With the rise of cloud-native computing and modern application development practices, reactive programming addresses challenges with message streams and will be critical to adoption,” said Michael Dolan, VP of Strategic Programs at the Linux Foundation. “With the Reactive Foundation, the industry now has a neutral home for supporting the open source projects enabling reactive programming.”

RSocket is an open source protocol that builds upon reactive streams to provide application flow control over the network to prevent outages and increase resiliency of applications. It is designed to support reactive programming and today’s modern microservices-based and cloud-native applications as a high-performance replacement of traditional HTTP. RSocket allows the use of a single connection, through which messages are passed as streams of data. It enables long-lived streams across different transport connections, which is particularly useful for mobile to server communication where network connections drop, switch, and reconnect frequently.

    Additional Quotes:

“RSocket is designed to shine in the era of microservice and IoT devices,“ said Andy Shi, Developer Advocate at Alibaba. “We believe the projects built on top of RSocket protocol and reactive streams in general will disrupt the landscape of microservices architecture. The Reactive Foundation is the hub of these exciting projects.”

“The RSocket application protocol is an essential replacement for HTTP, delivering resilience and high performance for networked cloud-native applications and microservices communication,” said Arsalan Farooq, CEO of Netifi. “The Reactive Foundation will extend efforts to build a broader open source community around RSocket and reactive programming.”

“Many observers, from industry analysts to decision makers and developers are recognizing the positive impact of designing reactive software,” said Stephane Maldini, Project Reactor Lead at Pivotal. “After more than a decade of innovations, the reactive ecosystem is making it into mainstream adoption with Project Reactor, Spring Boot and the Spring Framework accelerating its adoption. The Reactive Foundation could not come at a better time for consolidating this position with defining projects like RSocket. Together, we can build hyper efficient, scalable distributed systems by rethinking the way we design them and by using the right protocol to coordinate them. The Reactive Foundation is an invitation for everyone ready to embark on this transformative journey.”

“When I co-wrote the Reactive Manifesto in 2013, we anticipated a major industry shift in building systems that react to modern demands on services and since then more than 26,000 people have signed on,” said Jonas Bonér, CTO and Co-Founder of Lightbend. “The Reactive Foundation is a critical milestone in bringing together technology industry leaders to embrace a message-driven architecture to support cloud-native applications built to be robust, resilient, flexible and written with modern hardware, virtualization, rich web clients and mobile clients in mind.”
