  • CollabNet VersionOne Releases 13th Annual State of Agile Report

DevOps, Scrum and SAFe® adoption continue to rise in 13th annual report along with an increased emphasis on measurement and metrics

CollabNet VersionOne (www.collab.net), a global leader in Enterprise Value Stream Management, Agile management, Git version control and DevOps, today announced the 13th annual State of Agile report. The report — the longest running and most widely-cited agile survey in the world — shares the experiences of software professionals in a variety of industries and roles around the world. This year’s survey findings feature increased global diversity with more results from respondents in Europe, Asia, South America and Africa than the year before.

The 13th annual report features new themes, shifts in priority and expanded areas of focus. As the importance of DevOps continues to grow, the DevOps section was expanded with new results on improving DevOps practices. Value Stream Management, an emerging category that helps organizations realize the value of connecting Agile and DevOps practices, is featured for the first time in the 13th annual report.

Notable findings reported this year include:

    • Agile is being adopted more frequently to reduce costs – The new report shows a 71 percent increase in project cost reduction as a primary reason to adopt agile. It also cited a 27 percent increase in the reduction in project costs as a key benefit of agile. According to the report, the adoption of agile has a bigger focus on reducing project costs and improving team morale — and is less about increasing productivity and reducing risk in comparison to the year before.
    • DevOps is a higher organizational priority – The need to understand and improve DevOps continues to rise as a priority for organizations — with 90 percent of respondents citing it as important. The report also showed a 27 percent increase from last year in respondents who think DevOps transformation is very important.
    • End-to-end traceability is key to improving DevOps practices – A total of 38 percent of respondents identified end-to-end traceability from business, through development, test and deployment as the most valuable capability for DevOps improvement.
    • Value Stream Management is new, but important – Although value stream management made its debut this year, 67 percent of respondents reported that it was important for connecting the business to its software delivery capability.
    • SAFe dominates scaling methods – The Scaled Agile Framework® (SAFe®) continues to grow in adoption and was identified as the scaling method of choice by 30 percent of respondents.

“The State of Agile report is a valuable resource for the Agile and Software Development community as it points to the issues at the heart of Agile. CollabNet VersionOne is committed to providing this resource each year to support the advancement of the community,” said Flint Brenton, CEO, CollabNet VersionOne. “This year we expanded our DevOps portion of the survey and added Value Stream Management, as each continues to see more adoption by software professionals. We’ve observed an increase in the importance of measuring the success of these practices, as organizations strive for continuous improvement in delivering high-value, high-quality software.”

  • CollabNet VersionOne Value Stream Management Solutions Help Teams Meet and Exceed Agile and DevOps Business Objectives

Enterprise Value Stream Management enables CollabNet VersionOne customers bridge software delivery and business value with latest release

ATLANTA – February 27, 2019 – CollabNet VersionOne (www.collabnet.com), a global leader in Enterprise Value Stream Management, Agile management, Git version control and DevOps, today announced the latest release of its product suite. New capabilities to VersionOne for Agile Management, Continuum for DevOps and TeamForge for secure development and CI, all support Value Stream Management to better align business objectives with software innovation.

“We are pleased to introduce new features and functionality for our entire family of solutions that help organizations practice Value Stream Management and seamlessly scale Agile and DevOps transformations,” said Flint Brenton, CEO at CollabNet. “2018 was a breakout year for Value Stream Management as more of the world’s greatest software innovators adopt this model to ensure they deliver value that matters most to customers and benefits the business.”

The Winter 2019 Release, promotes a theme of intelligent collaboration and productivity. In addition, this new release with VersionOne, the company’s award-winning solution for scaling enterprise Agile, TeamForge, a secure development and CI platform and Continuum, the company’s intelligent release management offering, also strengthens and reinforces CollabNet VersionOne’s Enterprise Value Stream Management offering.

Strategically, this release provides additional capabilities for business leaders across IT and operations to look at the entire scope of their development pipeline, optimizing value not only in the development stages, but going much further in mapping value through strategic planning, budgeting, road mapping, release and iteration planning all the way to release automation and deployment.

New enhancements around intelligent feature and work visibility in this release include:

    • Template creation of re-occurring portfolio initiatives, or common work in feature development; which reduces mistakes and errors when generating portfolio items and associated work items.
    • Epic/Feature awareness adds a level of intelligent tracking of a workitem such as a story or defect in VersionOne, Jira, and Visual Studio Team Services and automatically link that work item to a parent epic/feature trace that is traceable downstream across your entire DevOps tool chain through delivery.
    • Tighter integration between VersionOne and Continuum allow for more advance intelligent value stream scenarios that boost productivity across teams. For instance, the ability to prevent a member for promoting or deploying code, ability stop moving forward on build if the user story is not ready, or failed compliance checks, or the ability to have automated activities configured to execute at a time in the future, instead of instantly.
    • TeamForge baselining which adds a huge productivity enhancement for users to create a project from an approved project baseline, which can contain tracker artifacts, document versions, file releases, source code files, and/or binaries that are part of the selected baseline.  Also, a new baseline association feature that provides the ability to associate source code commit files to Jira workitems.
    • Managed Replica Servers which allow users to manage all replica server/repository associations for a project in one view; this saves time as there is no need to configure replicas for each repository individually.
    • Enhanced Git Code Reviews which keeps track of files that have already been reviewed; this helps improve CI/CD productivity and security when a change under review contains changes to many files and touch points.

  • CollabNet VersionOne State of Agile Survey: Join the Fray

CollabNet VersionOne State of Agile Survey: Join the Fray

If you follow the news on Agile software development, topics such as adoption, scaling, Kanban, Scrum or certifications, it’s likely you saw statistics in your reading that were taken from the “State of Agile Report.”

For the last 12 years, CollabNet VersionOne has been surveying the Agile software development community and providing this valuable body of research to the market. The data is widely cited in publications worldwide and used by organizations to gauge trends in the industry and help business leaders in their decision-making. Many vendor organizations also reference the report to gain insights on how to better serve customers.

Last year, the 12th “State of Agile Report” was compiled with insights from nearly 1,500 respondents. That’s a lot! The more IT professionals who take this survey, the more useful the results will be. By gathering more survey responses, CollabNet VersionOne can provide a more accurate analysis to help guide the industry.

The best way for us to get a big-picture view of how organizations are adopting and scaling the practice is to gain an understanding of individuals’ experiences.

    Results from Last Year

Last year’s report told us that organizations are realizing the benefits they set out to achieve by adopting Agile. Here were some other the key insights from the report: (You can download a full copy of the report here: https://explore.versionone.com/state-of-agile).

    • Agile is expanding within the enterprise – Adoption is growing within organizations, both more broadly and deeply. A higher percentage of respondents this year report that “all or almost all” of their teams are Agile, and that the principles and practices are being adopted at higher levels in the organization.
    • There is room for improvement in maturity – Only a small percentage of respondents indicated that their organizations have a high level of competency with Agile practices across the organization. The majority acknowledge that their organizations are still maturing.
    • Organizations are scaling Agile – The Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) is reported as the most widely used approach for scaling. Internal coaches, consistent practices and processes across teams and the implementation of a common tool across teams are the top three factors reported to have been most helpful in scaling Agile.
    • DevOps initiatives are on the rise – The survey reveals the importance of accelerating the speed of delivery of high-quality software and the emphasis on customer satisfaction. It’s no surprise, then, that a large number of the survey respondents report that a DevOps initiative is underway or planned for the next 12 months.

    Who Should Take the Survey?

The “State of Agile” survey is for anyone with stakes in the software development life cycle. It is not just for enthusiasts or members of teams using the practice; even if your organization is not using Agile, we still want to hear from you.

Here are some examples of job titles that fit within the scope of this survey:

    • Business analysts
    • C-level executives
    • Development leaders
    • Software developers
    • DevOps managers
    • Consultants/trainers
    • Product managers and owners
    • Project managers
    • Scrum Masters
    • Agile coaches

If any of these roles describe you, we welcome you to take the 13th annual “State of Agile” survey today. It will take you around five to eight minutes to complete. You can begin by clicking here. Responses will be accepted until midnight, Dec. 31.

Thank you for your valuable input.

  • Airbus uses CollabNet VersionOne for Value Stream Management

ATLANTA, Nov. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — CollabNet VersionOne (www.collabnet.com), a global leader in Enterprise Value Stream Management, Agile management, Git version control and DevOps, announces that Airbus is deploying CollabNet VersionOne VS to establish value stream management (VSM), which is a powerful new way to make software development and delivery more effective.

Enterprise VSM shows businesses the effect software has on the organization, throughout the software lifecycle. This visibility allows companies to keep software decisions aligned to business objectives. However, in order to visualize the development and release pipeline end to end, you need to use a solution such as VS to scale Agile and DevOps and analyze critical indicators of the speed and quality of software product creation.

VS helps companies focus on managing complex interdependencies in scaled Agile delivery, and to connect software deliverables to business value objectives. Those attributes help customers such as Airbus transition to an enterprise value stream management based model.

The transition from the waterfall approach to Agile often begins with the use of different project management tools to handle various steps across processes. This is a common approach but requires too much time just to keep processes smooth. Also, this model doesn’t provide a feasible path for scaling Agile and DevOps and achieving enterprise VSM.

VS makes the shift from waterfall to Agile and DevOps easier by overcoming those limitations. VS unites and orchestrates the flow of work and processes and enables value streams at scale, so teams can reduce waste and focus on work that delivers value to the customer and business.

“We are honored that Airbus selected CollabNet VersionOne VS as its solution for enterprise value stream management,” said company CEO Flint Brenton. “Aerospace innovation will lead to experiences that we can only imagine today. But to turn fresh ideas into reality faster than before, companies need to align their software development with their business objectives. We have the strongest solution available for that. We look forward to serving Airbus on its journey to enterprise value stream management.”

  • CollabNet VersionOne Announces New Release of its VS Solution, an Innovative Offering that Enables Organizations to Achieve Enterprise Value Stream Management

SAN DIEGO – Agile 2018, August 6, 2018 – CollabNet VersionOne (www.collabnet.com), a global leader in enterprise value stream management, ALM, agile management, Git version control and DevOps, announces the latest release of its VS solution. This release enables organizations to establish and practice Value Stream Management (VSM) at the enterprise level for software development and delivery.

This new release of VS makes enterprise VSM feasible and achievable by overcoming industry barriers to establishing a value stream model. Existing barriers of current tools can be summed up as a struggle and incapacity to scale agile and extend DevOps across the enterprise. These barriers and limits are caused by disconnects across planning, version control and underutilization of DevOps for rapid innovation. Those major disconnects raise risk and cost. Therefore, customers want to eliminate them and advance to the next level, which is possible with Enterprise Value Stream Management.

VS removes those barriers and struggles. Customers can scale agile, apply DevOps orchestration and business intelligence and take advantage of Git across the enterprise to align software development and delivery processes with business goals.

“This release is significant because organizations want to establish VSM to be competitive in the next wave of digital transformation that will demand more speed, quality, efficiency and market alignment,” said Flint Brenton, CEO at CollabNet VersionOne, “But they lack a solution for effective VSM at the enterprise scale. We solve that.”

“There’s no other way to benefit from enterprise VSM than by tapping into the full promise of scaling agile and DevOps orchestration. VS enables that due to its unique way of bringing together planning, Git version control and DevOps to close the gaps and remove barriers to smooth value streams that span the enterprise,” said Brenton.

Well known subject-matter expert and technologist Eric Robertson, who leads product marketing management at the company explains further, “Our innovation in VS is ahead of the pack. It lets organizations establish enterprise VSM that is anchored by transparent software development and delivery that is aligned with the broader operations of the business. Our VS solution frees businesses to innovate with confidence, which is vital for digital transformation.”

    VS Availability and Solution

VS is generally available.  Deep innovation lies in VS features that let users scale agile and connect planning, Git version control and DevOps into transformative value streams, allowing the business to measure the throughput of software value to the business.

This release of the VS solution is comprised of VersionOne and its new features for scaling agile, TeamForge SCM for Git enterprise version control and Continuum for DevOps orchestration and rapid innovation.  Together, with other capabilities such as tool-chain integration, analytics and governance, development teams gain flexibility and visibility into planning and managing their software development and delivery processes across the lifecycle. The company’s expertise in training and consulting combined with the technology enables the VS solution to deliver enterprise VSM.

“I’m proud of this solution and honored to announce it on this anniversary of CollabNet and VersionOne becoming one organization and advancing our industry,” added Brenton. “I invite all leaders who want to learn more to meet us and share your Agile, DevOps and enterprise VSM challenges and objectives.”
